    Ive advanced from these expensive (considering the size) poly pastes and Ive learned to use sandpaper (believe it or not!) 800 to 1200..then maybe a 2500 grit..then 3k, then a 5k grit to make stainless steel bands shine again and be scratch free,,,and it took a little nerve but sure enough, you can sandpaper scratches right out. Well, a lot of sanding...but, I mean, youre using a 2 inch square piece and using a few fingers. Its theraputic. Then I went and got some Diamond paste off of Amazon for like 12 bucks and, it also works much better AND you get 10 more product. Im not sure if Poly is just basically small sand like particles suspended in a liquid. When I use my diamond paste...I smear it on, spit on it, and turn on the dremel....POOF...spotless (after and hour or two, lol) I cant see PolyWatch having some super secret formula that is any different than youre basically sanding the crystal with grit in a cream. Dont you guys think?? I dont think there is some patented chemical inside the tube?? A good way to know, is to see if we see any professionals using it...and Pros use sandpaper and diamond paste...dont they??

    I feel like mineral crystal is in this awkward middle ground where scratches are both inevitable and difficult to buff out. Where acrylic is at least super easy to buff and sapphire is super difficult to scratch.

    • @AliasEveWatches
      @AliasEveWatches  10 місяців тому +2

      Yes!!! So true. Sometimes I avoid mineral crystal and would rather have acrylic just for this reason. But then sometimes there's a design that I really like and it's on mineral crystal so I have no choice. 😅

  • @AnCar88
    @AnCar88 2 роки тому +3

    Good job, my first adult watch I had given to me by my dad when I was 11 its an Avia marina with a miyota quartz, as I used it thought school it got best up very badly and I would often use it as a knuckle duster for scraps.
    Now I have 2 problems 1 Is that the crystal is just full of big deep scratches and the second is that it had a male end link and the bracelet is too small for me. It would be very hard to find spare links. AVIA used to make good mechanical watches then had some owners over the years (when my dad gave it to me it came in a new nice wood box with a big scratch on the bottom and inside at the time it had cards about the RAF as they had a deal with them at the time it was a few years after my parents divorced so someone sold it to him in his bar or his GF gave it to him and then ahve it to me)
    My dad was a 3 watch man an omega handwind dress watch, an omega seamaster 300 Pro quartz that he would wear for most of the time as he would swim daily, and his father's Rolex 6542 GMT that my grandfather won in the early 60z on a card game with a pilot in the US.
    It has never been polished was serviced regularly, has all original parts including the bezel and the origional owner must have asked for a standard non cyclops crystal when he got it, I'm never a fan of the cyclops but when my father was rushed to hospital someone stole it and his pinky ring and insurance did not pay out as the person who did evaluations got into trouble for fraud......
    It's why when go back to China I want to remake one.
    Quite a few company's went from Acrilic crystals to sapphire
    And 18,000bph-19800bph to 28,800bph on the next model like rolex. So when they did the next models they had a much higher BPH movement with hacking and sapphire.
    I'm pretty sure quite alot of other company's did the same.
    I'm not sure what makes seikos Hardlex special I don't think its much stronger but seiko should have gone sapphire along time ago with citizen and orient as its so cheap now.
    I would say if it was a round watch you could change it to sapphire but shapes like than can be hard.
    Maybe with bigger scratches a roaty tool with some soft polishing wheels would work well.
    I'm sure it made your father very happy to get his old freind back.
    I'm sure most of us have a watch we lost, was stolen or misplaced.
    I found a simple omega, old by the sink in a resturantebonce and I asked if anyone had lost a watch and a man 70 or 80 said is it a gold omega with a brown strap?
    I gave it to him and he was almost in tears as it was his father's and he wears it all the time he wanted to give nearly all the money in his wallet over 300 pounds in cash or get me some drinks but I kindly refused I did tell him to go to a jewelry store and get a deployment clasp installed so he can move it up his arm when washing his hands, even wrote it down for him.
    Some people are so heartless as for many some watches or even simple rings, an earing or necklace can mean the world to them and are worth so more to them than the cost to buy another.

    • @AliasEveWatches
      @AliasEveWatches  2 роки тому

      It was really nice of you to hold on to the watch until you found the proper owner! I'm sure the person would have been gutted to have lost such an important heirloom.
      For the crystal, I think there are some sellers for rectangular crystals but I think it's harder, so that's why it was a perfect subject for this scratch removal video! 😁
