    Hello Miss Kaye... I am not too far from you in western Kentucky. I am 56 and my husband and I bought an Amish farm this year. The farm came with two very large garden spaces as per normal for the Amish communities. We started an orchard in the larger one and I am tripping and stumbling through the gardent with an abundance of onions, potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cabbage, tomatoes, radishes, green beans.... It's A LOT for my little brain and the heat is a killer lol. I enjoy watching your videos so much. Thank you! Beth

    That's a lot of progress Kaye .. I have cut way back.. I am real busy picking berries( about20 kinds) I just picked up a bucket of my Antique Strawberry apples (SAge got a bucket too ) . I think the tree came from Jeff Poppen back when he sold fruit trees. I am grateful for my irrigation system .I finally got my tiller fixed and hope to get sod tilled in and get it planted with the Sweet Luck corn . What you call crab grass I always called Wire Grass. I have grown luffa from Nichols rare seed in Oregon for over 50 years .. the seed does stay viable a long time .I have grown butternut for over 45 years here too ..I am grateful to not have deer or aphid issues here but do have wild bunnies ...

      @@Latebloomershow I get it I rarely get even to Delmar 3 miles from here nor want to leave my little garden of Eden . As you know ,many black snakes live here in the walls of the sheds and I compete with them in collecting the eggs . I did read they eliminate venomous snakes .Today I am having the chimney cleaned and in the evening it's duck harvesting-- a busy day .Did you think raising the potatoes the "Ruth Stout" method was NO WORK? I have 2 boxes of landscape pins that work great to pin down fabrics . I still have no help and my tiller finally fixed. I have one chest freezer full of about 20 kinds of berries . We call that wire grass not crab grass . It's a really issue here on the sandy soil buy I have very little here NO problem with deer here but wild rabbits are an issue. I use weeds to build compost here ..

    Some sun some water, plants love it. Your raised beds keep the plants from getting flooded. I'm going to try planting Castor beans as a border to see if they slow the deer down. I hear is tastes bad (as well as being really dangerous if you pet or you try eating it). Starting with a few feet of them by the driveway, see what if anything eats it ( I have cameras on the driveway). I suspect it's like Rhubarb, bad to eat the leaves, eat enough you can get really sick or worse) so nothing tries to eat the leaves.

    • @Latebloomershow
      @Latebloomershow 4 місяці тому +1

      Darrell would know. He used to grow quite a few. Had me try it once, but I planted it where it didn't get watered and it didn't survive. I have such a big area, it wouldn't be possible to use it as a deterrent. they are impressive looking. You will see them in the early videos of Darrell's garden.

    Glad things are going so well for you this season after so much effort. Seems new infrastructure is needed every time you turn around, but it's paying off. Rhizomes all seem to be going Crazy. You might consider Wild Strawberries as ground cover instead of persistent crabgrass. Might keep deer etc busy. You cd try laying down hardware cloth, then tarp, then amended soil for terraces. Test for soil pH etc & see if this solves most of it? Best Wishes. 🤕🎯😎

    • @Latebloomershow

      I have a raised bed garden, 8 beds, first part of video. It would cost a fortune to cover the terraces with raised beds. Each rebuilt wood raised bed cost me $160 for labor plus hundreds of dollars for cedar. Spent a lot of money.
