The funniest thing is that the "army" used on this episode was what the Black Knights taught they were. They weren't being controlled, Lelouch made use of their capabilities without having to resort to Geass. What's even more funnier, that same army of goons he mind controlled: He could've done that every time he wanted, the guy managed to turn an insignificant terrorist group into the second/largest military in the world. Hell throught the anime, he used it on groups before, the best example being the police force he used against Mao.
Not gonna lie, Lelouch's entrance with the purple fire, stating who he is, while he has literal mindslaves at his heels, has got to be one of the most epic moments in all of anime.
ohgi technically has no right to call anyone a traitor. Ohgi is indirectly the reason lelouch had to leave the battle field during the first black rebellion. If he had reported viletta instead of simp, she wouldnt have created an opportunity for the student council members to leave nunnally alone and also let suzaku be saved (although lloyd and cecile might have interfered regardless). Lelouch after knowing about viletta and ohgi didnt interfere which bit him in the ass later. Many members of the black knights did many things behind lelouchs back, most of which lelouch knew but still let it slide.
I'm sure V.V. would find another opportunity to snatch Nunnally. Ohgi was not consciously betraying anyone - although he completely lowered his defense, which is dumb.

Ohgi is an angel compared to Lelouch, who is ready to sacrifice everyone in his command if it gets him to his goals. And which he does by the end of a season 1. Second of all, you must also understand that Ohgi's decision are influenced by Lelouch himself. First, Lelouch treats them like pawns, brings them on the mountain he knows for a fact will be surrounded, he acts very devious when it comes to any human lives in his plans. On top of that, Zero is not Japanese and doesn't let others know his identity. Quite a pile of reasons to not trust him, not matter how good he is as a leader. But Ohgi wants to believe Zero. He just needs something to reaffirm his trust. On the other hand, remember what Lelouch said when they've met first time. "You must fight fight Britannia, not Britannians." When Ohgi takes in Villeta, he finds himself in a difficult situation. She might remember Zero's identity. He wants to know it himself, but he also knows this info can't be leaked. He can't bring her to the police, but he also can't just murder a defenseless woman. His actions may not be wise or very well planned, but he did exactly what I expected him as a character do in this situation. On the black knights deciding to abandon Lelouch, it wasn't just because of the SAZ massacre. (Though that was probably the greatest cause), Todoh had been considering it all season because of events like how Lelouch abandoned them at the end of R1, how he did that again (for a significantly shorted amount of time) after the failed attempt to kidnap Nunally, and info about mission to destroy the geass order (AKA massacre children) that Asahina passed onto Todoh before he got nuked. And then Lelouch didn't even try to defend himself, he just claimed full credit, insulted them, and made sure Kallen survived.
Except first, they trusted a major enemy who they knew was a schemer and used deception for his goals who didn’t have any actual evidence, not even as to Lelouch’s goals. They largely took Schneizel at his word. Then they decided to give Lelouch absolutely no opportunity to explain himself even before he pretended that he didn’t care about them. (which, for the record, we all know he did) Kallen at the very least should have known MUCH better. They’re traitors and should be punished as such.

@@Shinji103 I know people hate on Oghi for believing Villetta, but he knew she worked for Zero, and thought that Zero had ordered her death to keep her silent. And then that information matched up exactly with what Schneizal said. Todoh had info - from his own sources - that Zero had lead a black op to massacre children and unarmed people without explaining anything to either the senior staff or the people in the op. Everyone knew that Jeremiah, the leader of the purist faction, who participated in the shinjuku massacre and wanted Zero dead for humiliating him, and Guilford, who possessed undying loyalty to Cornelia, both decided to join the black knights. And Zero just went "Don't ask questions." And regardless of all of that. at the end of season 1, Zero abandoned them and left without explanation. And he didn't give an explanation afterwards. The fact that they were still willing to follow him after that was a testament to how desperate they were at the time. But when the situation eased and he kept on doing shady shit? Of course they would react badly to that.
@@aoirei111 Your sarcasm aside, they didn’t mind giving him the chance to “hypnotize” them when they confronted him. They had him cornered; they could have given him the chance to explain himself. Tie him up, blindfold him, lock him in a room with a camera and microphone, whatever they wanted. From their point of view, the fact they weren’t already being controlled, or the fact he didn’t control them right there to save himself, proved they were safe at the time. Instead they were all backstabbing idiots. They made the choice to trust two of their worst enemies who would have seen them all dead based on no real evidence without listening to the one guy who’s responsible for any of them still being alive. It never even occurred to them that Schneizel could be using the situation and only giving them information convenient for his own plans.
@@TheHunterkiller96 First off, they had Lelouch cornered and he didn’t control them to save his own life, so they should have known it was safe to question/interrogate him about everything Schneizel and Cornelia said. Furthermore, could have bound him, blindfolded him, and stuck him in a room with a camera and microphone. So: “He thought Zero had ordered her death.” This is what hearing both sides of a story is for instead of trusting the word of your enemies with no proof or evidence. “Todoh had info.” Again, they had one part of a story and didn’t have any intention of getting the whole picture. Jeremiah and Guilford. Again, they just assumed “EVIL!!!” based on the word of their enemies. End of season 1. Again, assumptions without context or evidence. The fact they followed him when they were so desperate just shows how ungrateful they were to turn on him so quickly and easily without knowing any context or explanation whatsoever. They should have asked themselves “if we’re just pawns to him, why’d he risk his own life facing down Guilford to save us?” The question never even occurred to them. “When the situation eased and he kept doing shady shit.” Yet again, they assumed he was scum and trusted the word of their enemies without getting any context or evidence.
Rolo just wanted to be loved. And he's a very loyal person. RIP Rolo. And yes I have watched this on patreon already but i still watch it on youtube hahaha
I cried for rolo when this aired. Yeah he was terrible but all his life he was told he was meant for killing people and Lelouch gave him a new purpose in life even if he hated him for replacing his sister and the false memories but they were still brothers at the end. Also I will never be able to forgive the black knights for betraying Lelouch after eveything that doesn't sit right for me, yes let's listen to the people who made us slaves and took away our culture, pride and everything, come on 🙄
So you wanted the Black Knights to stay with Lelouch, knowing that he used his Geass to make Euphemia slaughter the Japanese people? They have him *recorded* saying that he ordered her to massacre the Japanese. Please tell me how they're supposed to react when they find out that their leader did something that went against the very thing they stand for.
@ǀм D̶e̶a̶d̶ A̶l̶i̶v̶e̶ Ɓяσкєη Yes, and he's also ordered Euphemia to slaughter to Japanese people, the exact same thing the Brittanians have done since the very beginning of the show. Yes, it was an accident, but the proof is that he told Suzaku that he used his Geass on Euphemia to slaughter them all. Without Lelouch there would be no Black Knights, but the Black Knights really didn't have much choice. They're fighting for Japan, yet their leader murdered the very people they're trying to protect and free from Brittanian rule. They're just people, not heartless soldiers. There's no way they would've stayed with Lelouch after hearing what he's done, not to mention the slaughter of children from the Geass Order during the attack on V. V. Betraying Lelouch was the most sensible move.
So there's this character right... He's got no physical ability. Is an okay shot, and an okay pilot. How epic can we make him. Lelouch: Sets something on fire and poses with his hands.

every time i watch code geass i'm amazed at how quickly the black knights just turn on lelouch and end up following schneizel. ohgi's been a mark the whole time, but really didn't expect the lot of them to betray him
That’s one of the things I sort of liked about the recap movies they kind of changed the black knight reactions to zeros identity to where they still turned on him but they were more reluctant to do it,I think it was the prince’s order to shoot rather than theirs, they wanted zero to explain
In this version though the main people like Todo had reluctant feelings about Zero still being in command after the failed rebellion prior and leaving. We saw that often even at the start of this battle when they were questioning what to do with him after their victory so it makes sense they would respond coldly like this.
True, I agree, zero did give them a few reasons to be skeptical,But you would think they would have a little bit more trust in the guy who is the only reason they were on equal footing with the Britains& practicaly unified the rest of the world or at the very least(even if that evidence was damning)gotten his side of the story before turning. But that’s just my opinion the whole situation was tricky and could’ve gone either way. Although I don’t really think there’s any kind of “right answer” to give when asked why you caused the Euphemia mass murder incident. Either “I did it to unify the black knights” or “it was an accident” neither sound very good lol, but I wonder if any of them would have stayed on his side if he had told him the truth
@@hunterwaguespack3963 my opinion is mostly the same. I think the trick is that Schneizel created some kind of urgency which wasn't really there. He pressed all the right buttons to make them angry and gave them no time to calm down and discuss what that all meant. I think if they told Schneizel they needed time to think, discussed without interference and came to the conclusion that Zero cannot be trusted right now, it wouldn't feel so much like they were tricked into a betrayal. There was a lot to think about and they didn't take their time.
5:40 man I really like the prez and rivals scenes really reminds you theyre just ordinary people who happen to be friends with some crazy characters. Like her whole arc where she just becomes a weathergirl is so wholesomely mundane it really grounds the series for me even though it can be so wild
This was one of the most infuriating episodes of code geass. They couldn't do jack until Lelouch came along and then abandoned him as soon as they were established and not some low time rebels
That and he also confessed to causing a massacre, but yeah. It's a testament to how well he built up their structure, he needed a true army and he built it, one that could operate as well as any other military in the world. They have commanders just as talented as Lelouch and ace pilots who can face the Round. Lelouch just brings his special brand of madness, creativity, and Geass.
@@SwordTune They had no intention of accepting any explanation that wasn’t “Lelouch is evil!” Lelouch could have told them every last detail of the truth when they confronted him, but they had already decided to take Schneizel’s word for everything (f***ing idiots) and kill Zero. Nah fam they done been establish for a long time and still followed him. Not to mention he’s left them in the pivotal moment of battle twice plus his unexplained fixation on Nunnally. They gave him the benefit of doubt but dining out about Ephemia no way they could have followed him after that. I mean he did murder tens of thousands of Japanese people and theyre the Japanese rebellion so...... Debt only goes so far and they didn't know it was a accident
If they can’t handle things and win without him that’s all the more reason they should be grateful to him. They aren’t. At all. And they had no problem giving him the chance to control them when they confronted him. They could have let him explain himself right then and there as to why he “abandoned” them and everything else, especially since he directly risked his own life to save them, but they had already decided to just kill him. They totally took Schneizel’s and Cornellia’s word for everything and decided to backstab the one reason any of them are still breathing.
Rolo was hands down the most loyal to lelouch he knew he was being used, he realised he didn’t mean as much to lelouch as he did to him yet still he gave his life to make sure lelouch lived, hands down lelouchs best sibling, with euphy as a close second
People say Lelouch betrayed the Black Knights, but he didn’t; they were in a mutually beneficial arrangement, and he cared very much that they lived and cared very much about saving them when they were in danger. The Black Knights on the other hand didn’t give him the slightest chance to explain a single damn thing and took Schneizel’s story of assumptions, insertions, and “what if”s for truth. Plus they were already psyching up to stab him in the back early on in S2 (remember when Zero first said he’d take up Nunally’s offer earlier in the season) and practicality jumped at the chance to team up with Schneizel against him. With SCHNEIZEL. The Black Knights were idiots and very much deserve to pay for their betrayal. At least Kallen should have known Lelouch was just trying to push her away so she wouldn’t get caught in the Black Knight’s betrayal.
@xGungiManx Two things. First, it’s not about him lying; he’s not only an enemy that they’ve been fighting against this whole time, he’s one of the most scheming and deceiving enemies they’ve ever fought. Enemies like Cornelia and Charles are all about all out war and crushing their enemies head-on through strategy and tactics. On the other hand, it wasn’t long ago that Schneizel was pulling the strings behind the Chinese Federation and his own brother for his own schemes, and they knew it. He was even using Euphemia’s Special Japan Zone last season for his own goals. Yet the Black Knights pretty much took his word for everything. Second, he had no real proof behind much of what he, Cornelia, and Viletta were saying, just a bunch of conjectures and “this theory fits.” And neither he, Cornelia, nor Viletta or even Ohgi gave any proof or evidence as to Lelouch’s goals or motivations. Again, the Black Knights just took them at their word. Lelouch played the act that they were just pawns to him later in the episode, but they had already decided to trust Schneizel and backstab Lelouch before that. They’re traitors and deserve to be punished as such.
While you already know what her geass is by now, not one geass that I'm aware of effects anything other than the mind. While there could be a guess that makes you appear to be a different person to others, such as what Lelouch did to Guiford, or even functionality invisible, like Nathan from Misfits, I don't think there is a guess that could physically alter your body.
Yeah Rolo’s death is so sad he did crazy stuff but damn the moment he said no one counts how much times they brush their teeth or eat that shit hit me like imagine how many people he’s killed to say something like that since he was like what 7 or 8 that’s terrible he finally had a mission that made him stay with someone act like a normal person and we all know how good of a person and brother Lelouch is he must have had such a good time you have to be a horrible person to not feel bad for him
To be fair nobody was thinking rationally after those revelations. As far as they knew they're whole lives and reason for fighting could be an illusion of geass. The movie definitely paints the black knights betrayal in a better light though.
Their action is justified. In their perspective, lelouch has been manipulating them, and massacred thousands of innocent japanese just to settle his personal grudge on his family... . Japan's freedom in exchange of lelouch is the only thing they could hope for... The only thing that's a bit too convienient is that how schneizel was able to convince the black knights that he is capable and will honor the agreement... It sucks that they betrayed lelouch, but it's the logical outcome.
It's even more painfully hilarious that they trusted Schneizel. He is the worst of them. It's always the ones who hide their inhumanity behind kind smiles.
All Rolo wanted was to have a family after a lifetime of being used. He found his family and didn't want to lose that feeling. I think Rolo was one of the few people who understood Lelouch and knew how he sometimes even lied to himself to find the strength to keep going. While I'm sure Lelouch didn't like what he did to Shirley, he didn't express any hate towards Rolo in his final moments. Or even after he was gone. All he expressed was worry and panic. That locket that he claimed was important to him because it was for Nunnally, he didn't take it and give it to her. Instead he gave it to Rolo because he did love him like a brother. Even after Lelouch spat those hateful words at him, Rolo still came to help. Because he believed in his big brother. R.I.P. Rolo Lamperouge.

that clown face suzaku was funny, but it still doesnt beat the scene in the previous episodes where the chinese long-haired man said "zura janai, katsura da!" it was hilarious.
One thing the anime doesn’t explain is that as a kid Suzaku overheard a conversation his dad had with britannia where they basically offered him a position in the new government if he sacrificed all of his military force with “do or die” tactics. His father was literally gonna betray his own soldiers for his own gain. The only reason a rebellion exists is because of suzaku. If they didn’t surrender they would have lost all military might and the JLF who was the largest rebellion forces before the black knights would not have been formed from the Japanese ex military because they’d all be dead.
@@patteri90 they made a series of light novels that expanded the lore. Unlike the manga which explored separate timelines, the light novels followed the canon storyline and added additional information. It may not be be canon. But the anime always refers to Genbu Kururugi as calling for “do or die” tactics. Which lines up.
When Rolo called lelouch a liar, he’s not in denial about lelouch hating him. He knows everything he said was true, he just wanted to feel human again even if it was an act. Rolo truly loved lelouch and that’s why you can’t hate him.
All geass affect the mind not physical stuff: Zero's absolute order, rolos mind freeze (he freezes minds in time not time itself), memory alteration, mind reading, geass canceling, so all are kinds of mind control... So it wouldn't change the appearance of someone... it could in theory make people see her as someone else though... but it would mean that the pink haired girl could have been actually mariane in disguise at this particular point... but we know the pink haired girl has had a weird reaction in the presence of CC and VV so far so it does seem to be her... So what makes more sense to me at this point is that Mariane is controlling her mind be it by "being inside her mind", like living inside her head since Mariane has been told to be dead so many times, or by remote controlling her... but the remote control would be weird since that would require constant activation of the power and it seems like other geass are just something simple and concrete done once while remote controlling would be like a continuous activation/effect... Since mariane seemed to have invaded CCs mind it seems more like she move into other people's minds...

Everyone knew that Jeremiah, the leader of the purist faction, who participated in the shinjuku massacre and wanted Zero dead for humiliating him, and Guilford, who possessed undying loyalty to Cornelia, both decided to join the black knights. And Zero just went "Don't ask questions."
And regardless of all of that. at the end of season 1, Zero abandoned them and left without explanation.
So:
“He thought Zero had ordered her death.” This is what hearing both sides of a story is for instead of trusting the word of your enemies with no proof or evidence.
Also I will never be able to forgive the black knights for betraying Lelouch after eveything that doesn't sit right for me, yes let's listen to the people who made us slaves and took away our culture, pride and everything, come on 🙄
To be fair, Lelouch was using the Black Knights for his own ends, so it's not like he was innocent of his actions.
@@krazytreRTM yes exactly
Watch the picture drama version, it shows the memory of Rolo and Lelouch as siblings. Also Rolo's perspective on it.

When Schneizel and Cornelia exposed Lelouch like that to the Black Knight, Man what a plot twist it was 😌
14:00
"Was it the Geass or was it me that wanted to do that?"
"It was me, Dio!" XD
The Rolo scene makes me cry to this day. The fact the majority of his speech is when Lelouch is frozen really gets the message across that hes not saying that sob story for pity he just really needed to get it off his chest. Poor kid.
Ah yes the episode where Schniezel walked into a room and the collective IQ of all the Black Knights just plummeted to zero.
Lol. "Zero"
the issue was that, even if zero managed to convince them that he was worthy of their trust, schnizel came there with a literal fleija. He can just detonate it if things go wrong
@@rohanmanuel1815 with Schneizel in the ship? If Lelouch wasn't so devastated, he would have a devised a plan before even stepping into the same room as him knowing that they're all aware there's a FLEIJA in their midst.

every time i watch code geass i'm amazed at how quickly the black knights just turn on lelouch and end up following schneizel. ohgi's been a mark the whole time, but really didn't expect the lot of them to betray him
lelouch just went "Dormamu! I've come to bargain!"
Bruh ep 19 bring back all the memories and emotions i had buried
Agreed, the show does pretty good at slowly showing you just how manipulative Schneizel can be
5:40 man I really like the prez and rivals scenes really reminds you theyre just ordinary people who happen to be friends with some crazy characters. Like her whole arc where she just becomes a weathergirl is so wholesomely mundane it really grounds the series for me even though it can be so wild

4:58 got me rolling! omg the i can't take it! XD
They’re all a bunch of filthy, ungrateful traitors. Lelouch has more than earned the right to explain his actions and tell his side of the story, but the idiot Black Knights didn’t want any of it.
Nah fam they done been establish for a long time and still followed him. Not to mention he’s left them in the pivotal moment of battle twice plus his unexplained fixation on Nunnally. They gave him the benefit of doubt but dining out about Ephemia no way they could have followed him after that. Plus if you think he can mind control you how are you gonna trust him to talk to you and explain himself and not just control you instead.
They totally took Schneizel’s and Cornellia’s word for everything and decided to backstab the one reason any of them are still breathing.
grand blue next 🙏🏼
The Black Knights sold out their leader and did an backdoor deal with Brittania for Japan without the UFN's consent.
Rolo was hands down the most loyal to lelouch he knew he was being used, he realised he didn’t mean as much to lelouch as he did to him yet still he gave his life to make sure lelouch lived, hands down lelouchs best sibling, with euphy as a close second
Yo that clown edit on jermia zooming in on suzaku had me dead 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Everyone here been waiting for you to hit this episode
@xGungiManx Two things.
They felt that full force of that nuke like the table felt the full force of table-Chan Am going to hell😂

Yeah it's always tied to the mind on some aspect. Kinda funnels back to the collective unconscious concept

Yeah honestly without Zero these guys would've gotten blown the fuck out 30 episodes ago but they go and betray him at the drop of a hat
To be fair, the narrative never portrayed the Black Knights as smart people.

Look at Tamaki, defending his best friend LMAO 🤣
One thing the anime doesn’t explain is that as a kid Suzaku overheard a conversation his dad had with britannia where they basically offered him a position in the new government if he sacrificed all of his military force with “do or die” tactics. His father was literally gonna betray his own soldiers for his own gain. The only reason a rebellion exists is because of suzaku. If they didn’t surrender they would have lost all military might and the JLF who was the largest rebellion forces before the black knights would not have been formed from the Japanese ex military because they’d all be dead.
Isn't the anime the original work for Code Geass? I'm curious where this extra Suzaku lore comes from
@@patteri90 they made a series of light novels that expanded the lore. Unlike the manga which explored separate timelines, the light novels followed the canon storyline and added additional information. It may not be be canon.
