- Former All Blacks coach Ian Foster joins Martin Devlin on It's Only Sport to talk all about Sam Cane, with the loose forward announcing he will retire from international rugby at the end of the year. The 32-year-old has been in Japan on a playing sabbatical but will return to New Zealand in the coming months, meaning he could still put on the black jumper before the end of the year.
Back in 2020, Ian Foster selected Cane as his skipper and the 95-test veteran held the role (for the most part) right through to the 2023 Rugby World Cup final defeat to South Africa.
Foster talks to Devlin about the qualities that made Cane stand out as a worthy All Blacks captain, the toll that last year's World Cup final took on him, and much more.

Sam Cane had given his all ~ circumstantially the most difficult time as Captain of the AB’s EVER : Covid was terribly demoralizing
He kept a cool head
regardless of injuries and other ambushes real…
Well done Sam
You deserve this break prior to retirement
New dawn now…‼️👊🔥

Foster still spinning
Foster has done enormous damage to the All Blacks brand and legacy.
How much turmoil was new zealand rugby really in during COVID? NZ was literally the only country who could play rugby at one point. And COVID numbers in the country were some of the best per capita due to the policies early on. Fozzie had been using COVID as an excuse for years.
Goodbye fozzie and goodbye cane. You set nz rugby back four years.
Oh stop it!!

Really?
Totally agree, Cane should never have been captain, even his playing abilities was questionable.
95 tests he Broke his Neck gave everything he could for the Jersey you don't even know what your talking about
How did she get 25million
He was never ever that good as a captain, it hindered his playing abilities.
