Huge Kate Bush fan from NC and I have listened to her since around 1987. This album completely blew me away when it came out and Rocket's Tail remains one of my favorite songs. Am also a huge Pink Floyd fan so this was an amazing bonus to have both!
Another astonishing Kate song , so much for your ears to enjoy with headphones on.
I love your reaction (the both of you) to this masterpiece. I've always loved this song and Kate Bush as an artist. The whole album is beautiful. When I listen to this it's like listening to a woman come into herself. Divine womanhood. It is amazing. Thank you for your reaction to this song.
Thanks! Yes, it's a wonderful album.
Thanks for watching!
When the Artemis I launch was delayed until November and was scheduled as a night launch this song immediately popped into my head. If you have never seen a launch in person, that explosive buildup fits well with the roar and power of a rocket taking off. Have been a fan of Kate Bush since high school when Hound of Love came out.
Definitely my favourite song on "The Sensual World" and out of the six collaborations with The Trio Bulgarka (there another three on "The Red Shoes") also my overall favourite. While I had heard already some of Kate's single hits in the early eighties on the radio, I first really got into her music in 1990 (at a time when I had been listening nearly exclusively to metal - preferably Thrash - for several years) and I bought all of her albums within a few weeks. I'm especially thankful for her collaboration with the Trio Bulgarka, because it introduced me to Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares (The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices - as this Bulgarian female choir is called nowadays), which I also saw live a few times in the early nineties and it was absolutely fantastic! Five years ago, The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices did a collaboration with another one of my favourite female singers, namely Lisa Gerrard (the female half of Dead Can Dance) and I consider myself lucky I managed to attend one of their concerts. My favourite song from this collaboration is the song "Mani Yanni" - here's an excellent live version: ua-cam.com/video/6HNBAGEDSXo/v-deo.html
Since this choir usually performs a capella, here's a live performance of their song "Mome Malenko": ua-cam.com/video/hRePG1_RGZY/v-deo.html And the proof the they can pull this off anywhere is this impromptu performance of the same song at CDG Airport in France: ua-cam.com/video/NsLTFLji7YE/v-deo.html (both versions are from their official YT-channel)
Hi, thanks for links - I look forward to checking them out!
Thanks for watching!
This song is genius, mystical, magical, thank you.
KATE THE GREAT with Trio Bulgarka, a traditional Bulgarian female vocal ensemble! ULTIMATE creative force
Yep! Amazing!
Thanks for watching!
LOVED this song before I knew it was Gilmour and before I knew all the words (I tend not to pay attention much). When I read the lyrics, my jaw dropped. What an amazing dichotomy between His worldview and Hers! And then she shot off into the night! Brilliant on multiple levels. She's amazing. Reaction videos: so we can see people love the stuff we love. thanks!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
Wonderful reaction to an awesome track. This what Kate said about this one: I wrote this for the trio, really, musically, in that I wanted a song that could really show them off. The other two songs that they appear on were already structured and in a way they had to very much fit around the song's structure to become a part of it, but this song they were there en masse, really, the whole song was based around them. And I wrote it on a synthesizer with a choir sound and just sang along. We put John's on and I had no idea if their voices were going to work on it at all, really, so the whole thing hung on the fact of whether when we went out to Bulgaria, whether it worked or not. And the arranger we worked with out there was such a brilliant man. In some ways, I think that the fact that we didn't speak the same language made our communication much easier because he seemed to know exactly what I wanted, and, really, just after a few hours he was coming up with the most incredible tunes, and I just had to say "Oh yes, I like that one", "Er, no, not too keen on that one," "Umm, that's lovely!" and just go away and write it out. It was incredible, I've never worked like that before, so quickly with someone I've never met before. It was really exciting to find that kind of chemistry. (...)
Rocket is one of my cats, and he was the inspiration for the subject matter for the song, because he's dead cute [laughs]. And it's very strange subject matter because the song isn't exactly about Rocket, it's kind of inspired by him and for him, but the song, it's about anything. I guess it's saying there's nothing wrong with being right here at this moment, and just enjoying this moment to its absolute fullest, and if that's it, that's ok, you know. And it's kind of using the idea of a rocket that's so exciting for maybe 3 seconds and then it's gone, you know that's it, but so what, it had 3 seconds of absolutely wonderful... [laughs] (Roger Scott, BBC Radio 1 (UK), 14 October 1989)
Awesome - thanks for sharing that, and for watching!
Cheers
Yes indeed , Kate Bush fan in Texas here. I have been listening to her music since the early 80's. I love this one with the Bulgarian trio!
Good to know!
Yep, I love it too!
Thanks for watching!
Kate Bush definitely has fans in the USA (although I'm not sure how many). My sister introduced me to her in the mid 90s--her greatest hits album (though I think my sister also had The Kick Inside). "Withering Heights" was the first song I'd ever heard from her, and I was hooked. When I met my wife-to-be in 2001, she owned Hounds of Love and The Red Shoes, and I was pretty darn impressed (although our musical tastes don't really overlap that much). Anyway, this track is new to me, and I love it! (P.S. Our church's music minister, who is a huge Kate Bush fan, can sing a lot like Kate Bush's--could probably do covers of her stuff for a living.) Well, great reaction!
Thanks Michael! Glad you liked the track, and good to know there are some fans stateside!
Thanks for watching!
People seem to be discovering her here now---much more than they ever did in the 80s, 90s, or 2000s, likely a result of YT etc. It's great to see because she is a very special artist.
This album (the sensual world) went gold here in the US - the only one that ever did.
@@cletusbeauregard1972 Good to know. I wonder if that was off of the back of her duet with PG.
Total New Yorker here. Been a major fan since the early 8Os. We're here in the USA!
Good to know!
Thanks for watching!
This is such a massive song. Just brilliant
Agreed!
Thanks for watching!
Maybe one of the purest forms of magic in the form of music- riveted my soul from first listen when I discovered it😩😮💨
Always loved this song.
That bass player though !!
I know, right?
Amazing!
Thanks for watching!
That was John Giblin
03NOV23 Kate Bush gets inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on her fourth nomination. I can't be certain, but I believe the resurgence of Kate's R.U.T.H. may have sparked an interest in the voters to look at her other works. Kate has several works of rock music - this being one very good example. It gets the blood pumping.
I just love your big smiles all the way thoughout the song ! A great reaction to an outstanding track !
Thanks!
And thanks for watching!
Rachel have a very beautiful smile! You are so cool. Amazing reactions! Thank you!
Thank you Luiz!
Oh thanks. I shared it with you (though I listened to this song more than an hundred times), and to see your faces was the cherry on the cake... My eyes got wet, bad people ! :D
Had the amazing privelege of seeing Kate Bush live in London in 2014 and what an incredible show it was!! Dropped into the pub close to the theatre before and was really struck how many Americans were there who had managed to get tickets and flown over for just for the show. Was so nice chatting to them. Great reaction video.
Oh wow, that's very cool!
Thanks for watching!
I think that's it's safe to say that Kate's more well known in America now! 😀 I'm so glad that a whole new generation has the opportunity to be exposed to her music and I hope that some will decide to dive into her extensive catalogue.
Your guys reaction to weeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhh was awesome!!!!!
😂 Thanks!
Love your reactions.
Thanks! :)
Big up the Alders arcade massive!!!!

Thank you so much!
Her cat was called Rocket. 🎉
i love it!!!!
Dave with Kate is always great
100%!
Thanks for watching!
An amazing piece of music. Had not heard it in a while. Thanks for bringing it up on your channel!
You're welcome!
Thanks for watching!
Never knew this existed - extraordinary! Check out BEFORE THE DAWN live album awesome. Gilmour helped in her early career definitely an early mentor.
Thanks - will do!
Thanks for watching!
One of Jean Alexander's faves
I predict we will soon see a 'new' voice that'll take the space Kate invented. And to younger people, that person (or their record label) will at least appear to have invented that rare phrasing style and tone. I love iconoclastic originals like her, Floyd, Laurie Anderson, Joni Mitchell, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie. You just never knew what to expect other than something brilliant.

Yep, I think you're right. Tori stepped in in the 90's, but I think someone else is due soon!
Thanks for watching!
You forgot the very best of all, the one and only Mr. Tom Waits!!
@@RDMusicExchange yeah tori amos is closest to kate bush

@@pinkbeatle2012 At some of her live shows she also covered "And Dream of Sheep" - ua-cam.com/video/aX0QUhX9Nxs/v-deo.html -and combined "Running Up That Hill" with her own song "God" as well as excerpts of "Tubular Bells" into one song: ua-cam.com/video/uRDuC2Xx2kg/v-deo.html (there are lots of other live versions of this combination)
i had the same reaction as you did hearing gilmour
when i first heard paul mccartneys
"no more lonely nights "
from the album
"give my regards to broad street "

Yes, that's another great one!
Thanks for watching!
If you look hard enough David Gilmour has played with/or collaborated a lot of artists over the years.
Yep - we'll be covering a few move in future :)
Thanks for watching
Gilmour discovered her so it's not entirely surprising...
What isn't?
You seemed a little surprised at the reaction between them, maybe I misunderstood...
As a Kate Bush fan I'm going to assume,if you've not had the pleasure yet, you're going to dig Eivor (she's from the Faroe islands and her vocals have a distinct Kate Bush feel + much more). Tracks I always play to introduce her to people are : Into the mist. Salt. The swing. Trollabunden (sang in her native Faroese) I absolutely love her catalogue, most of which have been released in Faroese and English. She's awesome! Edit : Falling Free live is a standout also. So good.
Awesome - thanks for the recommendations!
A band that is heavily influenced by Pink Floyd with their vocalist heavily influenced by Kate Bush is the Dutch band called The Gathering with their now former vocalist, Anneke van Giersbergen. The Gathering ua-cam.com/video/Y46Lft_BZxo/v-deo.html. Anneke van Giersbergen in solo acoustic Kate Bush cover ua-cam.com/video/WjFKwX0EwFc/v-deo.html
Thanks - we'll check it out.
Cheers
Nobody else but Kate Bush, or maybe Cocteau Twins, could have made this collaboration work. There is actual footage of Kate and the Trio Bulgarka on UA-cam rehearsing. Of course Kate would pair up Yanka Rupkina’s vocal solo with David Gilmour’s guitar solo. Obviously.
Yes, someone posted the link in the comments - it's very cool!
Thanks for watching!
That song is like hearing Goran Bregovic 10 years early xd
I skipped past the intro so you probably mentioned it already, but that Gilmour shirt is a SERVE
I didn't, but thanks :)
recommend " love & anger" Dave in the video. Dave help and help get Kate on the map.
Thanks for the recommendation and for watching.
Cheers
I was living in Edinburgh when "Wuthering Heights" came out in the U.K. - the name Kate Bush was unknown to me. It was like a shift in the Space/Time continuum - "uniquely talented" barely covers it. In retrospect I feel that she did not prosper in the U.S.A. because of her originality and quirkiness - too much for the pap-fed, money driven music mill that was California and New York.
Yeah, it's a shame she wasn't bigger there.
Thanks for watching :)
The song is dedicated to the memory of Kate's dead cat, Rocket
Wow - I didn't know that!
Thanks for watching!
kate said that but obviously there is a little bit more to that. did you recognise the words in the lyrics form reasonable sentences with semantic meaningful content ?
@@solarialuna Well there's often quite a large gap between what Kate says is the stimulus for a song and what the lyrics seem to be saying, I mean look at Get Out Of My House, she said that was inspired by Alien, and The Shining, and the lyrics are far darker and traumatic and point to something far deeper. Kate has often said that she bases her songs on things she's read about or imagined because her life isn't very interesting, but sometimes I think she uses that as an easy out when she doesn't want to talk about the song.
you can just tell its Gilmour instantly on guitar.
Unmistakable!
Thanks for watching!
David Gilmour discovered Kate Bush when she was a teenager.
You need to listen to more Kate Bush. She's a great composer.
Don't worry - we know :)
Thanks for watching!
Is it deliberate that you're wearing a T Shirt that has 'Gilmour' on it?
Yes, its a replica of one he used to wear on tours during the Animals era.
I love Kate Bush. And I love this song. And I'll never get why anyone can make money by posting "first listen reaction" vids. If you don't know her, and you don't know this song, your reaction is worth less than a used condom. Maybe twice used. The Gilmor bit is especially disappointing. He has great effects but as a player, he is a very predictable (and therefore boring) pentatonic box player. The real brilliance of this song is the way Kate used the Trio Bulgarka. Amazing. TImeless. Unique. Gilmour ... meh. And of course her lyrics ... no one can touch her.
Nobody makes any more from these videos other than the artists. Didn't do it for the money, just for a bit of fun.
The song, the singing, the musical performances - they all beggar belief, but it's the drummer that puts it over the top for me. Dude loses a bit more of his mind with every pass through the chord changes; by the end, he's reverted to an animal.
Yes, you're right - he's amazing!
The drummer is Stuart Elliott
