Actually, I'm pleased that you call the freeways by saying "the 5 the 405, the 101". my inlaws in Seattle think we So. Cal people are so incorrect all the time. But heck we're from California, we have the right and they're just jealous. :)
It's actually just a regional LA thing. I've lived in San Diego, SF bay area, and Sacramento. Nobody else puts "the" before freeway names (unless they're originally from LA area).
(Maybe folks in San Joaquin Valley do as well, not sure).
I’m from SD. not saying “the” is just...odd
I didn’t know not saying it was a thing
@@whatever5922 literally same. Socal Native here, cannot imagine any other way of getting to LB other than THE 605
We say “the” as well out East in NY.
Great tour of Long Beach! OC and Irvine would be great, too
Good thinking. Especially since I work in Irvine.
Just adobe shop in a bunch of tan stucco houses with terra cotta roofs.
Would love to see ya fly over San Diego and parts if Downtown SD also I noticed Long Beach feel empty espically since the Grand Prix is most likely cancelled
i think there's more people on the beaches north of lax bc venice & santa monica are very touristy & also more heavily populated than the beach cities south of lax like redondo, hermosa, manhattan, & el segundo
Fascinating! I've always been in love with LA but I've never lived there. Great city, maybe one day I'll get my chance (Aussie living in Europe)
Yep, same here... stuck in Europe!!! wanna go back though!
Just remember you must have the money to live here. Real estate is very expensive. I'm moving to Pittsburgh PA when I retire.
Yeah, but Europe beats the shit outta LA tho.
@@apuuvah No, no it doesn't. I've lived across Europe and now I'm permanently settled in LA. LA is incomparably better in terms of nightlife, business opportunities, weather and has absolutely anything you could want. Everything is only a few minutes away.
@@apuuvah Yeah but some shithole in Eastern Europe can't hold a candle to LA. You tried though :)
We'd love to see you fly around Glendale, CA and Pasadena, CA
Both cities have a lot of stores and restaurants. Parking is harder in Pasadena though.
As a former helicopter pilot I would like to say thank you for the ride. I flew all over Arizona but never got to fly along the coast. One day I’ll do it because it’s on my bucket list.
I've never been to LA, but I was surprised that I could recognize some of the landmarks like the Porsche Experience and the Tower Records Building. Thanks for the flight!
Capitol Records building. Tower was a retail chain that went out of business.
@@nickn626 I'm sure you are right. I remember the building from the movie "Ford Fairlane" where Andrew Dice clay falls off the top, and all the way to the pavement, he complains about his hair getting messed up. Pretty funny.
The guy flying a helicopter: "Oh a new Jeep Flatty, cool"
Mate you are in a freaking helicopter
It's amazing to see how clean and vibrant everything looks. Great timing to go fly after rain, as it should add to the color and further show the clarity that the pandemic granted the Earth. For a lot of people around my age, this is the clearest we have ever seen the world. Insane to think about!
I've played so much MW: Warzone in the past few days that I keep looking for places you could land to get good loot.
Awesome video, thank you for documenting this difficult time. It's so odd to see the city so empty. I used to drive through Hollywood and Highland to pick up my son from school. Saw that intersection on your video and it was empty, no tourists, no traffic, hope this is over soon.
🤞Agreed. This can't end soon enough.
Very cool...San Bernardino area. Thank you
You should do an Ariel video of the USNS MERCY at the port here!
That would be cool!
I'm guessing they have a no fly zone radius around ship for security
@@06Pine hmm, I haven't heard that but anything is possible and Micah will definitely find out from the Traffic Control. The Navy may have a zone around the ship at water level though as they do in San Diego around the bases in the bay as well as the escorts in and out of the bay. It's pretty impressive!
@@06Pine 041720
**** Googled "Is there a No Fly Zone over the LA Harbor for the Mercy ship?"
"Crackdown coming for those flying drones near the USNS Mercy"
As of research this evening, I found Zero info online about manned aircraft 'no fly zone' when I Googled it.
THATS IT I’m gettin me a helicopter to turn my 1 hour East Side to West LA commute into 5 minutes 🤘
I'm still marveling at how clear the air is. Visibility like never been seen before.
Never been in a helicopter. Looks fun. Would be cool to do a San Andreas fault tour.
San Andreas fault is about 100+ miles east of Los Angeles. It runs through almost entirely rural areas of the State until you reach the SF/Bay Area about 400 miles north.
Sir I have a question, what happens if you land on a helipad on top of a random building, will you get in trouble? Also is it possible to fly by the US Navy Mercy medical ship or it's super restricted? Great video just like the first one, keep up the good work.
William Geiser Santos You’ll be grounded for 2 weeks and all video games will be off limits.
William Geiser Santos from what I know (uh-60 crew member) most of those facilities have helipads as an insurance liability to evacuate personal in the event of an emergency although most of them aren’t even rated for the weight of most transport aircraft anyway lol so mostly just to check a box.
Automatic 5 stars
Ok Micah! Who knew, that you fly helicopters too! Brother, that shot if DTLA @ 27:29, “ took my breath away @. I’ve live here since 74, and NEVER have seen downtown like this! Thank You, for covering practically “ ALL “ of LA in this latest ride over; it showed the viewers, just how “serious” we Angelenos TOOK the advice to “ shelter in place”. I’ve been a fan of yours for some years now, and your quick wit, and ready smile, draws us in.
pilot: *holds a clear and concise conversation with LAX*
what i hear: los angeles heli, *gibberish* niner niner

I’m sick & quarantined at home with my fam it’s been rough. But watching this video brought me so much peace I simply can’t explain it. Subbed!
I live in the UK and have no idea how this turned up in my feed...but fascinated by the views! Great video, thank you xxx
The video will have a special place in every GTA V player's heart.
Abhi Barua GTA V is so much smaller than LA
@@emilioalban1234 Of course, but Rockstar captured the city's vibe so well in the game.
@@abhibarua5437 While they did do a fantastic job recreating L.A, Los Santos is lacking because of its much smaller size.
@@Utonian21 Dude, that game was basically made for PS3 and Xbox 360, and came out in 2013!! And it is still one of the best open worlds ever created in a video game.
@@abhibarua5437 True, it was developed for last-gen. And GTA V is my favorite video game of all time. I just hope GTA 6 (If it ever comes out) will have a bigger city
18:27 - Pacific Design Center, as you said, has three main buildings. A red one, a green one, and a blue one. That blue building is CALLED “The Blue Whale.” I suspect the reason they refer to just that building in air traffic as opposed to the name of the whole complex is because there is a helipad on the roof of “The Blue Whale.” In fact, the Red Building (that’s actually the official name of the red one) has warnings written on the rooftop forbidding helicopters to land there. Learn something everyday right? Thanks for your videos. I just discovered you recently and appreciate everything you post.
This video is amazing. That's the cleanest air in LA I've ever seen. There is normally at least some smog haze even if it has rained.
Don’t go out like Kobe and Gianna did R.I.P😥😭
Some people have sense of humor, some people know how to display it. You my friend are a dummy.
What a Fn idiot.
Can you follow the 605 freeway? You can head North from Long Beach towards the San Gabriel Mountains. The 605 runs next to the San Gabriel River and through the Gateway cities and the San Gabriel Valley.
Yes! The most gorgeous mountains in SoCal! I live near the foot of them. Just waking up and seeing them makes everyday a good day.
I live literally right down the street from The San Gabriel Mountain ranges!!
I can just open the front door of my place, and there they are. I stay North of "THE 10" and South of "THE 210". LOL
There is something to that management and procedure that appeals to order. Thanks and respect for the birds eye view and the years that it took to put you in this position.
I would love to see you follow the LA River from Long Beach up to Griffith Park or vice versa and also show more of Griffith Park from the air. great video thanks!
I promise I did pay @maha77 to post this! LOL
I mean, I promise " I did NOT pay " @maha77 to post that.
Such cool videos man - ignore those damn negative comments you're giving us a crazy great view of LA which I've never seen before (living in Australia). Keep it up man, awesome.!!!
Watching from way east VA , thank you 🙏🏽
I don’t see any negativity
When you fly into and out of Los Angeles, you simply can't belive the size of this city. It just goes and goes and goes and goes... And once you actually start going around it you realize is more like multiple ''smaller '' cities all connected into this one huge thing. They are all citizens of Los Angeles but when you move around it feels like going to a different city at times.
Its LA county not the city. The city has 3 million people, LA county has 10 million.
It's crazy the drop in traffic even from 2 weeks ago. They've been really cracking down on people going out on the state/county beaches as they are pretty much all not accessible. Some cities themselves though haven't closed the beaches and have instead closed parking, boardwalks, etc. to discourage gathering. Thanks for doing these Micah they are fantastic - gorgeous view of the Hollywood sign and griffith observatory. I'm sure the poor anthropology/history student analyzing these in 80 years will appreciate them as well XD
Footage kinda reminds me of the intro of that old classic 70s show "Chips".
Man. I haven't lived in SoCal in a long time but even I remember the nightmare of the 405 on a Friday night. This is surreal to watch. Had you not said this was 6p, I would have sworn it was 6a on a Sunday morning. Thank you.
I’d like to see you land, real time. And kinda walk us through how you do it. T
My GOD, Micah, how do you attract all of the basement-dwelling know nothings on the planet to post BS comments on your UA-cam channel? Smh. You're doing a great job out there with these helicopter videos! I'm really enjoying them. I wouldn't be surprised if local news outlets were trying to buy coverage from you with those side-by-side comparisons you're doing. Slick stuff, bro. Keep doing what you're doing, and we'll keep watching! Stay safe up there!
So Cals Freeways are now the AUDUBON. I'm doing 85-90 in the far left fast lane and multiple cars are racing up behind me, passing me on my right or even jumping into the car pool just to pass.
65 is now 85 and at 85 YOU WILL BE PASSED. Our freeways are built for heavy traffic and high capacity and when they are empty, 85mph feels like 60mph...crazy
I'd like to thank UA-cam for this recommendation.
I-5,'The 5', used to be , when I lived in L.A. in the '60s, 'The Golden State Freeway', I-10, 'The 10', used to be "The Santa Monica Freeway', and Highway 101 used to be 'The Venture Freeway' . Things change when one brings Their terminology with them from somewhere else. I believe the term " The ....." is an east cost thing with "turnpikes', 'thruways' and 'Toll Roads', etc..
Dont forget Parkways I have no clue either.Im a Jersey boy of 56 years also Madison Square Garden is ROUND...WTF LOL
@@johmurphy315 yeah, we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway...I'm a NY'er I can concur. I can't think of a single example of a number designation highway in the Tri State preceded by a "the".
@@johmurphy315 Yeah, I've tried figuring out Madison Square Garden !
"The" 5 is a southern-California thing. It's not used up north. For example, Interstate 880 is referred to as I880, 880 or the Nimitz.
No. Wrong. I grew up in L.A. in the 60s and it was called the 10 and the 605 even back then.
Very cool. I started playing "where's Waldo" with picking out all the landmarks from Villa Riviera to Our lady of Angels Basilica. Brilliant.
Hey Micah, I’m currently working on getting my private helicopter pilot license. Could you do a video on how much it costs to own and fly a helicopter? It would help aspiring private pilots out. Thanks!
The money factor is a huge consideration. Good suggestion!
If you have to ask you can't afford it.
My old granny used to say that to me before I won the lottery. 😉😊

The passing over the SS Queen Mary definitely made my day! (Flew in a Hughes 369 (500) in the early 70'es, courtesy of a small outfit who had their helipad on the pier itself, just aft of this unique ship! @ 3:49 the view from the belly cam...is that metal loose? Also, are you just allowed to go up and fly over the city wherever you like? Nice to see LA is quiet. I've seen reports of people protesting that their rights are being infringed upon and they want everything opened back up again.
i really love los angeles especially the rich parts like beverly hills and hollywood i wish that one day i could move there.
