I discovered an interesting aside on Swamiji's recollection of the marshmallow experiments. It was either in the Freakonomics book or Shankar Vedantam's hidden brain segments on NPR. It turns out that almost all kids who are able to wait patiently to receive two marshmallows happen to come from rich families where there is an abundance of treats. That experience makes it easier for them to wait it out.
Swamiji I am very great full to you, I have watched all your videos related upanishad and bagavadgitha it's transformed my life and way of thinking is completely changed, accept me as your virtual student and help me with my concern. I am from orthodox brahmin family follows Shankaracharya tradition daily rituals is common in our family and though I'm working in IT company I follow daily rituals without fail.I am doing this from so many years and after watching your video I'm also trying to get light of enlightenment and I am following that but after following all this from so many years I am not able to get small hint of God and his existence my concern is am I doing any mistake? should I follow any other path, please advise me. I am very serious about enlightenment and your suggestions will help me to move ahead. I will wait for your reply 🙏
In the French language, "ask" is "demand." Interesting correlation to the two English meanings of "ask," which Swami pointed out. Further, in both English and French, another verb associated with questions is "pose." This word is also used in different ways. For example, to be "a poser" is to pretend at something one is not, to adopt a false identity. The removal of ignorance Advaita Vedanta points to us the realization of the True Self (which is not the body/mind we thought ourselves to be). Perhaps I'm conveying abstract and semantic connections inarticulately (my apologies), but there does seem to be something profound to them, particularly when one considers the genealogy of language and that most European languages trace their origins to India.
Thank you dear swamiji for expounding this - This question occurred as I was listening to the prayer you begin with. How is it that Brahman can reject "me" or vice versa is supported or upheld in this vedantic non dual world view ?. Does it not again connote some religious eentaglement ?. I am sure it's not just semantics at play here - If possible kindly illuminate on the underlying mechanics as otherwise this verse appears to contradict the essence of Advaita.
part 2 : he starts with the shankara bashya..still in the introduction, someone poses this question to shankaracharya.. why not do both karma kanda and this quest for knowledge? shankara answers that karma kanda is based on cause and affect.. but to attain knowledge of atma, one must go beyond all causes and affects and only reliable way to do this is through complete monasticism. - shankara says enlightenment is not possible through mere reasoning of knowledge, only a realised guru can point you the way towards it. - swami says to interpret what shankara saying as giving up the cause and effect internally as someone asks the clarification on giving up worldly life. swami also tells the story of a monk who became a monk after reading vivekananda's line in a book 'Give one life to god, you have wasted many lives prior'
Only going to comment about second half of this as it’s a common misconception. Saints have come from different backgrounds, some celibate monks as you have mentioned, but some from married household with children. Examples from scriptures start with King Janaka who, as you can tell by his title, was a king and mukta-a saint- nonetheless, many Sages, like Atri, had children. In (relatively) recent times, examples like Saint Namadeva, Saint Tukaram, Santa Eknath, Shri Lahiri Mahashay, and numerous others can be mentioned. It shows that it doesn’t matter if you’re a man, a woman, married, a monk, your social class/caste. What matters is have you done what needs to be done for that Knowledge to reveal itself.
Thanks Swami for transmitting the Vedas in an understandable way. Shubho Bijoya.
"Stay with the question " is unspeakable

Maharaj pronam, I have a very basic question. How and Why did this recycling life of ours originate? By whose design and will?
But Swamiji, doesn't Hinduism specify householder state as necessary for some, like Ramakrishna paramahansa, Lahiri Mahasaya n others?
It was not necessary.
In Shriramkrishna Paramhamsa's case his household life is more pure than even normal monk's life.
Can someone please inform how to join this group for live lecture?

Rebirth. Reincarnation .. can’t be tied to children. Why because all the saints have been single , no kids. Adi shankarcharya , swami vivekananda etc

Love your talks. Please Swamiji use the correct pronunciation as it should be. Brahman sounds too much like Brahmin the sect.
