which fish
most of the legendary fish are xl and xxl shadow size. you can skip the small shadow until the xl and xxl shadows appear. when it appears I usually hold my breath and concentrate
there are some legendary fish whose shadows are small (s to L size) such as lobster, softshell turtle, axolotl, salamander, golden shiner

yes that's good. but now you can use a gold fishing rod (which costs 200 gems) instead.
