Awesome video Ric! I absolutely love this puzzle image, but my goodness it looks super hard. Knowing myself, I would've worked on the sky last 😅but at least you got that part over and done with in the beginning. Hope your new video schedule works out better for you, and super congrats on over 5k subscribers!!!🥳🥳🙌🙌
Hello Mandy, what a great surprise thank you so much. Indeed this was a bit of a challenge 😂 but i got there eventually. It is still chaotic atm but im going to manage it hope! Thanks for the congrats, i hope you get soon too. Still struggling with mostly thumbs down here - but i wont let that take eme down. This video has 60 thumbs down so far, wonder what was wrong with them? 😂
😂 thats ok i wont let that get to me but it’s definitely odd. I wonder what makes a person dislike a video! I know it isnt bad 😂 thx Mandy. I’ll be fine.
and I have liked your lived very much. it really stands out amongst the time lapse videos on my feed. I prefer slow and well thought through videos like yours.
It's slow and steady wins the day. 😊 Taking your time with a puzzle like this is better than trying to be quick with it. If I have a puzzle like that I do short stints, go away and come back to it later. Good daylight also really helps. Some of these old Waddington puzzles have some interesting shapes to their pieces which can help with putting them together. Lots of helpful hints and tips on doing these types of jigsaws which is very welcome. Look forward to seeing the next session.
We’re in the same page, Puzzlepiece. I started this one in November and literally just finished it. 😂 i took the approach of doing it just a few minutes at a time as i didnt want to end up feeling like this was a chore, instead i ended up loving it so much i might do it again in the future. Glad to hear that you enjoyed the puzzle and the few tips here and are looking forward to the rest of it. Cheers!
Oh hello there! Haha thanks for the note on the shirt 😁, this was definitely the most challenging ive had in a long while. Took me several days to complete it 😂
We finished watching today. 😊 Ric this is some challenging jigsaw, it is! my lord. But you got it handled really well and we absolutely loved the paper cut trick - you should patent it, i mean it. Thank you for another beautiful and entertaining video. You are a shining star young man. One of the only puzzle channels i can sit down and relax since there seems to be a hype on puzzle competitions now, it’s becoming a drag. Love and peace from Bulgaria.
This is a beautiful image! I wish I could find Waddington puzzles in the States. This looks so challenging, but I know you will be fine. Your tips and tricks are always appreciated. Older puzzles sometimes need some loving care to repair them. Thanks for sharing.
Hello Laverne, thanks for enjoying this, wow i didnt know waddingtons weren’t available in the US! Thats something i never thought of before. Maybe ebay? Bit yeah it cost be costly! 😅 indeed, i sometimes fix boxes and everything before sending them back on their merry way 😂 thx again for enjoying this vid!
Vintage Waddingtons are one of my favourites alongside vintage Falcon Deluxe. I've just completed an early Waddingtons 70's qualitex circular puzzle and am blown away by how amazing the quality is, it feels new, it's really stood the test of time. Puts some modern puzzle quality to shame.
Hi there! We are on the same page then! every time i get an old waddingtons i just cant believe how good they feel, the images are stunning and well printed, i know most are 1.2mm thick, on the very thin side if compared to some new ones, but they still hold quality far superior than many new ones coming out indeed! A circular puzzle from the 70s? Sounds fascinating! Do you mind sharing the name? Just curious to see what the picture looks like! Thx 😁
Greetings Ric and a happy 2024. What a great way to finish off the day. The puzzle is so beautiful i have no words to describe it. It reminds me of Harry Potter. Beautiful video. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely puzzle. I noticed you are working on it in natural lighting, I'm sure that helped also with the muted colors...again very interesting that you also show us the real buildings.. , I enjoyed seeing you try several pieces to find the right one. most time lapse videos makes it appear that every piece is picked up and put in the correct spot, I enjoyed you looking also.. and in close to real time.... I just noticed you are up to over 5000 subscribers...High Five to you!!!!!
Hi Kathy and thanks for the positive feedback. High five back at you. Yep i only ever use natural light, i can only do puzzles before sunset otherwise i just cant see the pieces well, and because i cannot lean over the puzzles (im prohibited by my doctor 😂) i work on puzzles when i can see them well naturally. Tried all sorts of lighting systems but the glare is an issue. Also nice to hear you enjoyed the trial and error here. I will probably slow down even more on next video part 2, if viewers are in a hurry they can just skip to what they like. I learned so much about Chester through this that it would be a crime not to mention the real locations 😁
Hi Brian, haaa yes it does sound like a band name - now that you mentioned it 😂 i often found myself getting overwhelmed and keeping a finger on the spot i was working on - after some experimenting, this solved the problem, worth trying!
I have three in my collection that I haven't done yet: a 4000 piece Brueghel and two 500 piece Doctor Who puzzles. The 500 piece should be fun.@@RicPuzzles
Thanks for this video Ric,I have a 1980's Waddingtons puzzle which I've been a little afraid of,after watching you I'm going to get it and and hopefully done😊
This is really good Ric, I love the puzzle and the video. The tips are very helpful too. I think you found a nice bargain there, 50p? what a joke! Looking forward to seeing the rest of it.
Hi Ric, oh my giddy aunt! Chester, it’s a beautiful city, my sister lived there for a few years and if you ever get to go you must do Eastgate Street. Roman in origin. Made me homesick ha! Great puzzle construction, as it is a difficult puzzle (blurry). Finishing it will be a challenge but very rewarding. Thanks for posting Ric and as always happy puzzling👍😎😃🇦🇺🇦🇺
Hi Mark! Thank you very much, really cool that you have some connection to Chester! I did some homework and indeed now im dreaming about going there! Eastgate and all of Chester looks like a real treat
Hi Ric! Happy New Years! This is how I puzzle, trays and organized, I sort, re-sort, sub-sort lol. It also helps me to get to know the pieces very well!
Happy New Year Ric! Thank you for the idea with your cut out, I can see where that would be extremely helpful!! Wonderful video and look forward to part 2. 🙂🙂🧩🧩
I recently got my hands on a 1991 (I think) 4000 piece secondhand Waddingtons puzzle titled feast day by P Breughel. Apparently the original painting is titled The Kermesse of Saint George (from 1628 I believe). I am so glad it has so little sky compared to this one. I can not wait to start mine, but will wait for you to finish yours to see all the tips and tricks you have to offer.
Hi Izebelle, A 4000 waddingtons, fascinating! know exactly the painting you are referring to, such a beautiful painting. And now a large puzzle - that is definitely worth solving! as an art historian i go absolutely bonkers about fine art painting puzzles, i just got a 3000 Breughel’s too, the painting is called Netherlandish proverbs but on the box of this puzzle it is called ‘village activities’ from 1984 🧩 i think you will enjoy part 2 of this video and hope i can be helpful. Cant wait to hear more details about your endeavours with the Breughel puzzle! Happy puzzling and thx for leaving a comment, thats really nice.
Hi Ric, thanks for the tips, ive got my paper cutouts ready! This is very useful, beautiful video and edits. You are always outdoing yourself arent you
Another great video Ric. I’m only an hour away from Chester so the modern street this is based on is familiar to me. The pieces here looked a bit thin compared to modern jigsaws. Did you find this, too?
Hello mate thats so cool, im sure you had a ‘wow i know this place!’ sort of moment here, thats very nice! Indeed this is very thin, but most waddingtons are sadly very thin even though the picture and the pieces are quite solid. I cant complain but i would definitely have thicker board myself if i had a choice.
Terrific puzzling tips and tricks, Ric. Like you, I enjoy taking the time to organize my sorts (they’ve been called my “Monk moments”) - I find it calming, and it really does help. I was always a “finger pointer” when looking for a particular piece, but I really like the idea of using the window/cutout. BTW, what are you using as pointer in the video (small silver tube with an angled black end)? Great choice in puzzle, too.
Thanks so much, it’s great to hear from another puzzle puzzler. Glad to know you find this Cutout useful. The pointer is just an old touch screen pen for an android phone, it has a rubber tip which doesn't scratch the puzzle pieces heheh, thought I could use it instead of a pen.
Good day Allison, that is exactly what i thought as well, i even thought about sexism perhaps? But maybe it was just a silly mistake - very odd though given that waddingtons is such a respectful company, was,

Wow, one of the most thorough and informative "puzzling" videos I've seen. Love it! ❤

I love first working the liminal areas too! That's why landscapes/cityscapes can be so fun.
😀 nice Allison, good to hear that not alone! Hope v you had a good time watching this one!
Yes! Great work and fun too 🎉
😁 thanks!
Gosh what a challenging puzzle. Enjoying the tips. Oh and what a cool shirt. 😊

😁🤪 thank you very much! So nice to hear from you in this new adventure! Lol not s as masterpiece 😂
Another hard-to-beat video, Ric. Thanks for the tips. Always handy. I love the paper trick, i’ll surely give it a try.
Hi there! Nice to hear it and please do let me know how you’re going with the cutout trick!
The Inverse Cutouts - sounds like a band name! 😂 But what a great idea, especially when working in an area that doesn’t have a lot of texture.
Hi Brian, haaa yes it does sound like a band name - now that you mentioned it 😂 i often found myself getting overwhelmed and keeping a finger on the spot i was working on - after some experimenting, this solved the problem, worth trying!
