    i had a marijuana plant that i knew wasnt going to be up to par so i put it to the side and just basic care with sun and water and the mites were taking over then the miracle momma mantis laid her eggs and i had about 30 babies on there at one point eating all the mites lmao they loved it then they slowly wandered off as they got older and i had to pick all their shells off the leaves lol i love mantis theyre like little aliens

    Hello, my praying mantis hatched today, what should I feed them? Do they eat fish food? Or do they eat plants?

    Great video man! Your other video regarding the nymph enclosure set up is spot on. Not much needed. I always just drape kitchen towel down the side in a deli cup. The fabric top ones to be precise. They don’t need to be complicated.

      Thank you! Yes, as long as the container is large enough and there is water anything pretty much works. Usually when I have really young mantis that have just hatched I put them in a 4 oz cup, which I put a small square of paper towel over and then shut the lid, pinching the paper between the cup and lid.

    Good video dude, informative and doesn't get in the way of enjoying nature. You say the bunched up group is their skins. Does that mean they immediately molt once they leave the "egg"? Also are the skins attached to the "egg"? They look as if they're stuck

    • @PablosProjects
      @PablosProjects  Рік тому

      I never saw your comment, I know this is pretty late... So yes! They immediately molt once they emerge. When they come out they hang on a thread of silk and once they molt the skins basically just remain attached to this thread, while the baby mantis goes on about his little business.

    They are so cute! My egg finally hatched yesterday and I made an enclosure for them and they're so cute running around ☺️. Im really hoping that i can raise them to adults 🤞 we originally got the mantis egg for our garden but I couldn't help myself I had to keep a few as pets, my boyfriend thinks it's really strange XD I'm definitely that quiet weird bug girl at school type vibe lol

    **PSA** Please do not purchase and hatch! Chinese Mantis (Tenodera Sinesis) are the mantis version of the Lantern Fly! They're a very aggressive invasive species that grow to 5" big and eat beneficial native insects (pollinators) plus amphibians, and even hummingbirds. The problem is becoming exponentially worse with garden centers and online retailers selling them for cheap. Don't be part of the problem that future generations will have to deal with. Dont buy these and if you ever identify a Chinese mantis or their egg sac, be a part of the solution and humanely un-alive it. Your local ecosystem will thank you.

    Well, here’s to hoping you’ll see this comment:
    I just got in 2 egg cases for release in my greenhouse. I was thinking I’d set up their hatching enclosure inside where I have a setup for tissue culture plants. That setup has a heat mat under my boxes. Do they like or need heat? I wanna make sure I don’t bake these babies. Ladybugs and lacewings are easy peasy, but man I’m worried about screwing these guys up! Thanks in advance!

    • @PablosProjects
      @PablosProjects  2 роки тому +1

      Unless your home is freezing, they don’t need any heat to hatch. Room temperature is perfect for them, the more important thing to provide to them is humidity. Make sure you spray the enclosure with some water out of a clean spray bottle a few times a week to prevent them from drying out. That was the first mistake I made when I got them for the first time. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

    the fact he was still even trying to go to school, WELL past the point of knowing he wouldn’t need it. taking that risk and putting himself in danger every day, knowing he would be a target, yet still trying to get his education. that’s impressive in itself. i don’t blame his mom for taking him out of school. every artist who gets big at a young age does the same thing, why was she clowning HIM for it?

      In captivity they really like flightless melonogaster fruit flies, which are available online usually, and as they grow you give them larger and larger foods like house flies and blue bottle flies, also available online. Thanks for the comment!

      Yeah they aren’t too remarkable. I think that’s the point, they sort of evolved to be un-interesting to predators to increase survival rate or something.

      Check what you bought, you likely got Chinese mantis (Tenodera Sinensis) they are going to grow to 5" big and eat all your beneficial pollinators, birds (yes they eat BIRDS 💀) they're all around really bad for the ecosystem. It is recommended that you humanely un-alive all that you come across going forward and their egg sacs.

    • @PablosProjects
      @PablosProjects  2 роки тому +2

      Usually there's a main hatch, but sometimes more come out like the next day. (This depends on the species though, some mantids purposely hatch one by one to increase survival rate) Actually, sometimes a few come out even before the main hatch, and these are called "scouts". The number that come out in total depends on how many eggs the female made, which is dependent on how well fed she was in the weeks prior to her laying it.

      Did your mantis mate? If she didn’t, it isn’t a fertile egg so it won’t hatch. If she did, see one of my other videos that should show you how to care for an egg properly. Good luck!

      @@TheSavageJetdiRustySpooner Naa don’t apologize for asking. Keep doing what you’ve been doing. A little misting every once in a while is good. Also no guarantees that they’ll hatch, but judging by those that already hatched, there’s probably a good chance you’ve got some more coming soon.
