813hp at the wheels at 8,800rpm, 759Nm at wheels at 5,000rpm. No turbos, no nitrous, no methanol, just a bespoke 3,924cc peripheral-port rotary engine running on pump gas and breathing naturally.
I want to see what it can do with a equivalently sized turbo. rotary engines are well complimented by turbos by all accounts, so....why not.
hzuiel
yes did you even see the output unlike piston
rotary squeeze a lot of airs to the exit of the exhaust
with such big areas for the air to enter...so yes
rotaries are naturally meant and dedicated for turbos
its 11,772cc
Tiqo 654x6=3924
Logan Smith 3924x2=7848 litre V12 piston engine as Wankels produce twice horsepower than piston on same size
Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.
Eddie Vasquez they should, and they did.
The answer to that is, yes, yes they should!
4 times the power ,but 4 times slower round a track, oops..
@@neilblackman2965 it's a drag car they put on the track here. I don't think people expect it to be fast doing laps.
@@butwait Thanks for clearing that up.
It literally sounds like technical Death Metal.
"yeah my car idols like the faceless" lmao

If there was a rotary NASCAR, this is what it would sound like.
JohnnyNismo 8 rotors o.o
Direct injection triple bank 12 rotor.
Not hearable
Funny how all of a sudden, I found my way back here. Good things always come back around :D
The scream is so awesome😍😍
On it's initial tune, it had 813hp at 9,000rpm on pump gas.
Who wants to see more videos of this beast??
FCUK YES!!
down the quarter mile - or was it not built for that?
we do want please
RapidFire Muzik
Not enough testing done for that yet unfortunately.
algood, still a car to drool at for some time tho :o)
Ask this; Who wouldn't? ;)
The sound is really in a league of its own. Fantastic!
So this is why Rob's building a 6 rotor.
Dr. Bananable Lector Is he doing a 6 rotor as well
@@kairone8623 Yep
@@kairone8623 his latest commitment already getting a crankshaft made
Its peaking the microphones, Im in love.
RIP headphone users
i went and got my head phones cause i needed it louder !
thats the spirit mr house hahahaha
Oh it wasn't a tornado
Huh? What?
Lol me
Mr. Wankel is proud good job. ;-)
rotary's are just so angry sounding idling then wan you hit that Pedal for get about it 😍
I don't think I've ever seen a car or car engine with the thrust and throttle response of a motorbike, it looks amazing! Sounds like a gnarly two stroke engine at idle, incredible piece of engineering
Go check out a mid 2000s Formula One non-turbo V8 or V10. Just shy of 20,000 rpm from some of them, and a shriek that only a multi-rotor engine can compare to.
3.9 Liter requires 12 quarts of oil. Needs to be refilled once every two laps. LOL! Anyway I'm hatin'. Sounds so sick!!
but think about the amount of power this makes vs a ridiculous 7L drag v8 or something and then how much fuel that uses
@@MadazMazdas you are missing the point of this build
@@notaberger_3216 how so?
@@MadazMazdas its unique
@@notaberger_3216 no shit, that's why I was here watching the video, rotaries are my favorite engine
Now Mazda take a close look.........this is what we want in the next (maybe) RX9?? haha
punishbeer we all know car devs dont listen to their fans nowdays so all one can do is custom build his rotary engine with desired rotors 4-6 or more.
@@ckryses3962 there's a difference between not listening to fans and making something that would cost at least half a million. This is up there with the lfa in cost.
6 rotors = no mpgs
NissinTuner as well with 6 Rotors the amount of repairs that would have to be done on the motor would be insane
It has nothing to do with them not wanting to do it.
It’s because of stupid and useless environmental regulations..
Great news! The 6 Rotor RX4 is returning, but this time for the 2014 V 4 & Rotary South Island Champs! It will be on display at the show and the drags on the 8th-9th November 2014 in Nelson, NZ. Full details on our website, or subscribe to check out all the videos next month!
Holy mother of braap
I’m here in 2019. This thing is NASSSTYYY!!! Dude is just “Spongebob-ing” the throttle with his big toe and instantly sliding the ass end out! Such. A. MONSTER! 🏎 💨 😱
Man there are some dumb comments on here.Watching all the Fast & Furious movies does not count as an education.
Lazarus D i watched them all twice bitch, i know my shit
Did I miss them shifting the 47 speed transmission?
Sadface.
The slow and the curious
Sounds amazing, well done guys. I think the closest sound to this is the BRM V16.
Very much so.
Indeed...quite right.
get that thing on the salt flats
i cant believe the sound. insane idle with a scary sort of demonic note to it. definitely want to see more of this car
when its revving it sounds like the old Lotus 98T F1 car
True
Never really occured to me until now but the RX4's back end looks a LOT like a Mach 1. Then again, both of them are pretty sexy cars. :)
Why were you driving it on a track?.....lOOks like it's made more for Drag strip..
Dont be afraid to open her up on the track bro! Lets see what it can do
that thing sounds so cool ! could watch that video over and over!
This thing is sick as love it great work guys
Gosh, what a monster! Thanks, Felix Wankel...
Only a Kiwi would be crazy enough to run something with 800 horsepower, in a car that weighs barely a metric tonne, and revs like a Formula 1 lol. A Formula 1 has the advantage of huge downforce to stick it to the ground, so anything wild in this would take some balls. Very well turned out machine. I normally don't like the sound of a rotary, but this one is an exception
Mechknight73 Kids get 800hp out of 4cly Hondas here in America!
However, this is a Mazda RX4. Have you any idea how many generations behind chassis-wise that is? Not to mention being a rotary and a relatively high torque one, it's akin to having an engine that can rev like a moto GP racing bike, but can do it in seconds, giving the kind of acceleration that would make it one hell of a handful. There's no turbo lag in this because rotaries can rev so much quicker than piston engines
Mechknight73 Yeah its a crazy beast. I wonder how heavy it is?
At a conservative estimate, approximately 2500lbs. The RX4 was a very lightweight car. The weight of the engine over a rotary might add about 100lbs, but it makes a 1990s Civic look chunky by comparison in stock trim
Mechknight73 I want exact #'s. I had a couple Rx-7s and swapped parts with Rx-8 owners, and the guys that swapped corvette LS engines claimed an almost 90lb weight reduction from a 2 rotor 13b..
The car is clearly a drag car and is going to appear to be 'light', but what is the weight and has anyone made a 1/4 mi run in this thing yet?
Turn the volume up and see more of this best here: ua-cam.com/video/B6qu3vYmg4g/v-deo.html
I have never ever been sad that a video has ended, until now...
That thing is fucking ANGRY it has to idle.
CaRayZEEEE ! ! ! Handling package is below par but that MOTOR Boy ! WOW!
I like that sound. 6 rotor? Wow! Awesome!
Very crazy project. Congratulations, hugs from brazil 🇧🇷
sounds like my banshee pissed off love it
Tubbed rear and still losing traction. That ridiculous rotary torque.
500nm thats big
PCGamer90x I think it dyno'd at 500 ft -lb not 500nm, so it's actually closer to 680nm of torque
EDIT: it dyno'd at least 560 ft-lb = 760nm of torque
Jason Lo
lb-ft, that is to say; Pound-Feet! It's not 560 feet per pound!!! :P
Jason Lo
You see, it's is a measurement of force over distance, you got the nm correct, x amount of newtons per meter etc, etc.
I always thought Rotary's weren't known for their torque? Rather their high rev's, and good power to weight ratio.
1 rotor = Gets you around town.
2 rotor = Loads of fun found in Mazda Cosmo / and RX line.
3 rotor = found in some RX8's but mainly just for racing.
4 rotor = 787B AMAZING power and Wins Le Mans
5 rotor = just inconceivable
6 rotor = face ripping / melting engine that puts everyone else on the road in the ditch as they think they are about to be killed when you pass them. Also can breath fire.
LOVE IT!!!!
Loving the engine when it comes to life!
Over 800hp out of a 3.9L displacement and no turbo. I don't think there's any reason to spoil the pure sound of this thing with a turbo. Especially considering how easily it lays rubber with those huge tires.
You mean 800hp from 11.8L
2 rotor is 1.3L, 6 is 3 times 2, 3.9L
Ryan Chandler
Oh dear you really dont know anything about rotary engines do you.
Mazda quote the swept chamber volume as 654cc (look it up)
Each rotor has 3 chambers.
654 x 3 = 1962cc x 6 rotors = 11,772cc
Now you know why they absolutely drink fuel, hence they're no longer made.
Manoo42 Ryan is still right
I was going off how Mazda rates their engines. But my main point was that engine takes up a small amount of space for the amount of power it puts out. In reality Manoo is correct on how the engine should be rated, it's rated lower purely for tax and engine size rulings, albeit being completely incorrect.
i wish i had one of these. I can imagine showing a friend, they would say "Whats that tube where the engine is suppose to be?" i would say "Get in..."
wow. props for taking it in the curves
Scary, scary, scary car! I just love the sound
holy shit rotary god!!
I'm curious what is purpose of this 6 rotor build? Is it for the quarter mile or was it just for stacking rotor kicks? I love the way it sounds!
Sounds very good!
Better than I expected, holy shit!!!!!
Why do you come in here every week and buy a new pair of headphones? Were you watching that 6 rotor video again?
Yes...
bi-turbo intercooled 6-rotor + anti-lag = prepare your asses for time travel
Holy shit, better than I expected
the sound of this car is wonderful
sweet, 6 rotors when 20B has only 3, still one thing is missing - a turbocharger :D. It's scary now to drive this beast imagine it like twin turbocharged. Or one massive turbocharger. Though that way could be too much torque and wheels might spin out. How about RPM? does it operates on like 1k RPM? Or do you always have to keep high RPM?
look at the engine bay , if that happen a lot more pipeing is needed
you can always find some room for turbo, be creative. Not necessarily turbo has to be in the engine bay
6 rotor is amazing in its own right. you can't just turbo this, you can potentially go 3times+ horsepower with turbos, thought about fueling, cooling, chassis/drivetrain, engine upgrades needed to turbo this build?
***** Trust me, I'm amazed too. And for the turbo part I was kinda joking, but at the same time not.
I'm just going to make a engine that make 1000hp N/A and turbo it, umm no
Sounds like a six with stereoids :)
Sounds so nice
It's soo angry! And sweet camera angles of the butterflys and sidewall flex.
2 rotors = 6 cylinder
Correction, fuel consumption of a v12, the price of a Lamborghini in apex seals and monthly rebuild materials BUT you have an engine that revs like a street bike. That's a win, I guess?..
yes, that's a win. definitely
IF my calculation is not wrong, for 15 years
engine rebuild every 75K = 5 years = 750$ X 3
=3000$
oil, maintenance, tax, gas, etc= 5250$ (15 years)
service=1000$ per year = 1000 x 15 = 15000$
23250$ for 15 years, that's not too bad
i forgot all of the calculation doesn't include insurance, parts, etc.
The sad part is, rotary engines get rebuilt MUCH sooner than that. They need new apex seals(complete tear down) about every 15K my friend. The one in this video probably gets rebuilt after every few races. There's a reason these engines are extinct. They're fragile, unreliable and have worse efficiency than a 2 stroke running a 5:1 mix. I just thought I'd inform you from a stand point of someone who has worked majorly with them. They are wicked cool, sound amazing and can make great power while revving to the moon. But a complete engine teardown every 10-15K miles isn't most people's budget. Sure, you can wait to 25K or longer but you'll burn a quart or 2 of oil every mile. They are horrible engines in reality, though us gear heads love them for what they are and what they can do. You should also be aware there's probably 75K or more alone invested in the one in this video. Not a really good power output for the money spent. 75K in the engine alone would get you well into the 1000 range in your other import cars, be it Subaru, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Toyota etc. You'd have a 1000 if not 1200 hp car for this amount of money. Though it would not be as cool as this 6 rotor.
oh wow
rebuild every 15k?
that's insane
premix not included too
yeah, it's pretty dang expensive to run rotary.
Sounds like my thundercat 900 ringadinger
sounds like an 18 cylinder two stroke. Awesome 👍👍👍😎
can ya imagine the smile on this guys face going round the track
wow one car sounds like a whole crotch rocket Auto cross race but sounds more pissed than a midget with a yo-yo
Sounds insane
Absolute Beast!!!
Love the sound of a screaming rotary? Check out this 20B, another NZ built rotary.
ua-cam.com/video/1WaK7iSlEBQ/v-deo.html
Rob Dahm fans?
sounds exactly like a 3 cylinder two stroke, I love it
that's what a rotary sounds like with sick porting :)
without air filter, shame on u guys, shame....
The air in Australia is clean... No need for air filter. I actually have no idea what I'm talking about. Lol
Leslie H. *New Zealand. And to OP Air filter would ruin that beautiful sound 😩
. . . . . . probably ate them
LiracyMusic beautiful? ... Shits ear rape.
LiracyMusic no air filter will ruin that beautiful engine eventually
i disagree, being an american i think it's wrong to put a v8 in anything imported, unless said V8 is an import motor as well.
Wow, words can't describe!!
Wow i thought my speakers are broken. That idling sound is just gnarly.
Damn I love the way rotaries growl. This is an awesome engine, well done. But...
This is also probably the worst waste of power I have ever seen. 6 rotors... in an rx4? Poor aerodynamics, a car meant for luxury/touring, and definitely not meant for sporting purposes.
It's awesome, but it just seems... wasteful. There's no way that car is stable any faster than 80-90mph. On top of that, it seems that only a fraction of the power is actually reaching the ground. Notice that whenever he even touches the throttle, up the ass of the car starts to come out.
Would have been awesome to have seen this engine in a chassis that could have actually utilized such power.
ithinkijustthunk That's just how we do it in New Zealand bro xD
I like seeing it get out there. But with that much power its hard to even imagine how to get it to hook up for most of the trip around a track.
sounds like heaven
this just inspired me to do a build on GT5, took a classic cosmo, swaped in a RX7 FD Spirit R chassis, and the engine from the 787b, godly car.
That's nuts!
Well, I saw it on another video that was on the side, and I have to just say, "THIS IS AMAZING." I love the three rotor, but this engine is insane.
That was probably a full tank of high oc in a few laps...not that that's bad , what a beast!
Lol talk about having too much.. I love it! I’d love to see this in a pickup truck 👍🏼
INCREDIBLE SOUND....
I'd love a 6 rotor thing sounds out of this world
Miracle of engineering, really. I heard they were gonna twin or tri-turbo it at some point too.
My mom had an 86 RX-7 13B-T turbo with a 5 speed was a great car, bought it new and had it until mid 2000's never had any major issues besides a clutch, had 140,000 kilometers on it when she sold it.
I would like to this this beast on a top speed run, the power to the wheels looks insane ..
This car invented a new sound no car ever made before, i don't know how to describe it as anything but pure terror
insane !
that's just badass
We need more
That's pretty cool
that's sick
the eccentric shaft on that thing has to be nuts
Damn!!! Awesome Angry Rotary
Love that noise.
My neighbors would love this at 6am
That is cool videoing really shows the insanity.
At idle it sounds like 6 speed metal bands at once 😌. I like that.
two words : epic car :)
THIS IS A MONSTER
That's a beast... holy shit...
Jesus, that thing makes one hell of a racket
