- What's up horror fiends and book lovers?
Today I want to share with you my thoughts on Clive Barker's iconic novella, The Hellbound Heart! This is the book that inspired the Hellraiser film franchise and first featured the horror icon, Pinhead.
I tried to make this video as spoiler free as possible. These opinions are all my own, but feel free to discuss your own thoughts on this novel in the comments below!

Congrats on the wedding! Congrats also on your first Barker read and the incredible aesthetic of this video - that bookshelf is a gothic academia dream.
The Midnight Meat Train is one of my favorites! It is included in the Books of Blood.
congratulations on your marriage!!
Personally, I love his short story The Forbidden which inspired Candyman. It's in Books of Blood vol 5. I found it just as creepy and unsettling as the movie.
Congratulations on your marriage! I really appreciate you picking up older books to review. Growing up this movie terrified me. I now feel motivated to give the book a try - thanks!
I am ashamed to say that i haven't read this book or seen the movie! But i also just got really into horror a few years ago
hi; do you take review request inquiries via email?
Congratulations on your marriage.
Congratulations.
Please read The Scarlet Gospels. The sequel book and it is amazing and brutal.
Congratulations on your marriage, and happy to hear your dog is okay!
I think I need to read this one... Not a huge fan of the movie (movies), but I want to give the book a chance.
Congratulations on your marriage! I read The Hellbound Heart earlier this month too. Really enjoyed it, read it in one sitting! I had previously read The Books of Blood and loved those too. I'm planning on reading more Clive Barker soon, love his writing. The Damnation Game is next for me, I think.
Congratulations on getting married!! ❤ love all your videos! I wanted to share a few books I’m excited to read this month.. Hex Education by Maurene Kilmer, where he can’t find you Darcy Coates, Murder in the family by Cara hunter, Near the bone by Christina Henry, When Ghosts Call is home by Kataya De Becerra , September House by Carisa Orlando, Witches at the end of the world by Chelsea Iversen, Delicate Condition by Danielle Valentine, and voice upstairs by Laura Weymouth. Also My roommates a vampire I can’t wait for that! Let me know if you heard of any of these and if you think you will like them or u have read them and like them 😊
Congratulations on your Marriage! Clive Barker is more of a dark fantasy writer than a horror author. Books of Blood is very good, but I think that vols 4-6 are more constantly good than vol 1-3. I mention that because it seems that people tend to only read the vol 1-3 omnibus. Damnation Game, Coldheart Canyon, and Mister B Gone are some of his nonfantasy horror novels. Cabal is what the Nightbreed film is based off of. It is better than the theatrical cut of Nightbreed but tbh I feel like the directors cut of the film is the definitive form of the story.
Congratulations on your marriage 🎉🎉!!!
Another classic that I still haven’t read. I did read his books The Great and Secret Show and Weaveworld back in the late 80’s/early 90’s and remember enjoying them both…
Glad the pup is okay and welcome back!
Congratulations! If you're comfortable with graphic sex scenes, then Coldheart Canyon is an excellent horror novel. And of course, The Books of Blood are amazing. And I'm not a short story lover.
If you're a New Yorker, definitely read The Midnight Meat Train. I think about it basically every time I'm on the subway at night. Cabal I haven't read in ages, but I remember it as dark and beautiful. I do not stand by the accuracy of that last statement, I think I read it in high school.
The Books of Blood, Cabal, and Coldheart Canyon are all worth a read as far as Barker's horror stuff goes. Don't know how you feel about middle grade, but if you're open to it I would also recommend The Thief of Always, especially if you're a fan of stuff like Coraline.
I really liked this book and the film but the part I could not get my head around was pinheads voice in the book it said he had the voice of a young girl or a kid (I can't remember which right now) as compared to old Doug Bradley's voice yeah pretty weird also congrats on the marriage
Congratulations 🍾🎈🎉🎊 on your marriage!
I am so glad you enjoyed The Hellbound Heart! You should read The Books Of Blood next, an awesome compilation of horror short stories that seriously test the boundaries. I am planning on doing a ranking of my top 10/20 Books Of Blood stories in the future. The Damnation Game and Coldheart Canyon are also excellent horror novels. I do love his dark fantasy but you have made it clear that is not for you. I have read pretty much everything that Clive Barker has written. By the way, Congratulations, wishing you many years of joy and happiness.
This is one of my favorite books!😁
He writes really great gore short stories. If that sounds like something you’d like I’d suggest his books of blood series. It’s a collection of his short stories.
Omg… I literally just read The Hellbound Heart. My first Clive Barker book. Congratulations again on your marriage 🙌🏾
