Congrats on making a far more useful video that Breville's instructions AND YT videos! One tweak I made was that I simply removed the drip tray completely, and hung my Bambino a little bit further out into the sink, so it could spit water out the bottom without me needing to attend to it.
breville owes you money for this, I thought mine was broken this entire time because it didn't spit water where the manual said it would, and was pretty close to pursuing warranty options. Thank you!
Fark. Great machine but was tearing my hair out when it came to cleaning. Even returned the machine because I thought it was faulty. The factory instructions are not clear at all. Cheers mate you saved my 21 year old marriage.
Thank you, this was very helpful. Every time I go to clean my machine I end up yelling into an empty room: it doesn't make sense that I have to fill the tank and put a bucket under the group head because no water comes out! Now I know why. I just trusted that the directions were specific to this machine. Thank you. You took the confusion out of cleaning this thing.
I've ignored the flashing lights for too long now. Today is a Sunday, and I promised myself I would run through the cleaning process today. Thanks again for this video!
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this simple easy to follow video for all of us who have been struggling to make sense of the manufacturers confusing instruction booklet. Thank You
Thanks so much for this. All the official videos (& the manual & the BILT instructions) suggest a container has to be placed on the drip tray, yet hardly any water ends up in it and the videos don’t show the actual process. It made no sense to me. I love your method of placing it near the sink and just emptying it manually. (Also peeved that the reported method of bypassing the cleaning cycle doesn’t work…)
Thanks a lot for doing this video. I got mine last November and the lights just started flashing yesterday so very similar timing here. The directions need to be step by step picture instructions. Thanks again- you saved me a headache.
Super simple clear instructions, well done sir. Made me a lot less stressed than I was following the instruction manual. Now can you please do the same thing for all IKEA flat pack furniture, I know it’s a big ask but just think of all the marriages/relationships you will save 😂.
Breville is not great about either phone or ‘chat’ help. I have actually had better luck getting Williams Sonoma to help both with a returned machine (solely because it was missing the wand cleaning device) and chat help. This video did the trick! I had to try twice because I had my espresso and then tried to clean it. Let the machine cool down completely, use the single shot basket and follow the directions. Thanks!
One qualification, you should put in a single shot basket whether it's the Dual wall or single wall before you insert the blinds disc. It's built to be used that way
Thanks for this, mine still shows the lights even after cleaning but seems to be functioning normally. FYI if you want to keep the machine going even when the lights are flashing, just tap the steam button once.
Yes, the lights will continue to flash to inform you cleaning cycle should be performed, but you can bypass cleaning cycle and continue to use bambino as normal (I believe by pushing 1 cup or 2 cup button, not just steam button). Interesting that yours still show alternating lights after cleaning... This leads me to believe maybe your cleaning cycle either didn't actually go through or it was an incomplete cleaning cycle
I experienced the same, I pressed all the buttons, it doesn't stop, I switched off the machine, however the machine could remembered the last step and continue flashing, so what I did was to just let the machine continues to do it until the flashing stops.
Thank you so so much for this very good, clear instructional video! I was going crazy trying to figure it out using the official Breville instructional video and the instructions. Really appreciate your help!
Karina Mohammed it is probably tight since it is new. There is a lip between the basket and portafilter which I just separa by gripping with my nails and pulling up from one side. It is held in via a line of metal wire with tension so should get caught on anything
I’ve found that to be the case as well. First cleaning cycle I used the double cup basket and the water came out exclusively through the portafilter. Second time used the single cup basket and it only came out through the tray.
@@KarinaMohammed I have to pry mine out with a knife each time I want to change. Mine is new too. I clean it out with water every time I make a cup. Looked up the video because my coffee is starting to taste rotten. Definitely going to try cleaning it.
Great video, one note though. You don't need to remove the drip tray at all during this process. Just let it run and empty it at the end, it won't overflow!
Thank you so much for this! I was wondering why the water was not flowing down into the container that I was supposed to put on top of the drip tray as per the manual, and the water at the bottom was flooding my countertop. Sheesh. Was about to send my machine for warranty!
Every time I see the cleaning lights, I get a little anxious that I won't be able to find this video. Well, I'm back to remind myself the correct steps!
I found that if You use the single size filter basket rather than the large one used here there is no leakage from around the filter basket holder. Another thing I found was that it doesn’t necessarily run through a lot of water, in my case really just a little bit.
Yep, you'd think that just adding one extra page of paper to the manual and explaining it more would be common sense but manufacturers rarely have that now a days.
Thanks, this is the best video that I have seen so far. I have one quick question, after the flashing light stops, do you need to prime the machine and clean the portafilter again? If yes, how many times that you need to do it before you starts using it for making coffee?
I run the machine a few times (like two or three times) without the portafilter in it after the cleaning cycle is done. I just want to be sure it's all fresh water coming out and no residual solution. I also wash the portafilter and basket before making espresso to get any residual from the tablet off.
You're supposed to use one of the single cup baskets (either one) then the blanking disk fits perfectly and no water comes out of the porta-filter, also supposed to press the single cup button to start the cycle although I don't think that makes any difference
It would also be nice if Breville didn't leave out the fact that the non-plus doesn't even allow backflush/pressure release or come with a number of accessories on their website or in any reseller store. If I had known how hard they gimped it, I may have considered getting the Plus instead, but now I just feel annoyed for them not making it clear. All they said was "the plus does the auto milk foaming."
Thank you for posting this. I kinda had to figure it out on my own as well as instructions not quite detailed or wrong. For me the cleaning tablet was not fully used in the process, some tablet left intact when done. Is that normal? It doesn’t fully dissolve the entire tablet?
I experienced the same thing... Tablet not fully used. Reservoir not fully used either, very little water used in fact. I take it for what it is... I haven't had problems with my machine yet, Espresso still tastes good, I figure it's fine.
Same, didn't even fill up the reservoir? I'm still wondering if that's how it's supposed to work. Why fill up the water and get a bucket ready if less than a cup comes out?!
@@lauriepatterson7640 I think it comes back to those old directions they never updated. That may have been what was needed for their older espresso machines
finally a good video ,so helpful .thankyou. my steamwand doesnt seem to be flashing or working even tho ive cleaned it ..any advice , its only 3 mths old
Thank you. I can't believe how wrong the Breville user guide is on this topic. I can only imagine how many support calls ($$!) they get because somebody shipped the product with bad instructions.
Thanks for this!! Followed your instructions, but during cleaning cycle, the lights aren’t alternating, only the cup button that I press to start the cleaning cycle flashes. Water is being flushed into the tray though. Any idea what’s happening?
Hi, that sounds like you're not in the cleaning cycle, it sounds like you are just running the machine as if you were making espresso. The machine tells you to go into cleaning cycle after many uses with the alternating lights flashing...for me that means every couple of months (like 100 uses or something). If you don't see alternating lights flashing, you don't need to do this cycle yet.
Did you cleaning tablet completely dissolve? My single shot basket must not have been inserted all the way, b/c when I tried to take it out, the basket was stuck up under the locking mechanism. Hoping it's clean enough and that all the cleaning material got rinsed out.
When I do this cleaning cycle the tablet only dissolves about half. So I was wondering if you think the same cleaning can be achieved with putting some powdered sodium bicarbonate (like cafiza cleaning powder) in the rubber basket instead of buying tablets?
As below I was ready to throw the machine out the window after trying to follow the Bambini instructions video thank you, thank you.
Thanks, really helpful. The instructions that came with the machine were dreadful! I appreciate your taking to time to explain.

This helped as the only video that explained properly BUT you should run a shot without the basket so it removes any tablet residue
Thank you very much for this, I was really struggling thinking it wasn’t working when no water was flowing into the tub! Much appreciated
Thank you! Even the little things help. Pushing the cleaning disc right down into filter basket was helpful to see AND 3x water draining. THANK YOU!

Oh my gosh, thank you soooo much for this video. We were almost out the door to take the bambino plus back to the store we bought it from.
The reason it is “leaking” is You should be using the single pressurised basket with the rubber seal. It is specifically shaped to fit that basket.
How do you remove those baskets? Mine is pretty stuck in there. I just got it today 🙂
Karina Mohammed it is probably tight since it is new. There is a lip between the basket and portafilter which I just separa by gripping with my nails and pulling up from one side. It is held in via a line of metal wire with tension so should get caught on anything
