Doug Gillard is a freakin' genius songwriter and guitar player. See "I Am A Tree," one of the greatest rock n roll songs of all time, containing one of the most spectacular rock n roll guitar solos of all time. Also, "Pop Zeus," which he shows us how to play in this video! So good. Thanks EQD!
"Anyone who loves guitar can agree that to know Doug's playing is to love it. "
Well said. ❤
The man behind the man.
And he doesn't seem to mind.
this man's recorded work is absolutely fucking stellar.. decades of it, brilliant throughout
EARTHQUAKER
GLUE! 😉
That was awesome. So much guitar excellence and tonal wizardary!
*Gillard is to Pollard as Nels is to Tweedy. I have respect for all the great Guided By Voices guitarists of yore, but Doug is the GBV guitar G.O.A.T. to the Fading Captain's infinite muse.
Big Doug fan here. Major talent!
GBV are an amazing band, definitely in my top ten live shows... and Doug is such a stellar player. 👏👏👏 Thanks EQD folks. 🍻
Always liked Doug's playing with Death of Samantha, wish I had seen them live back in the 80's.
I'm not sure I'd be able to say the words "I play in Guided by Voices" with the same composure and calmness... :p
My fave guitar player right there ! Fabulous Doug ....
Song at 7:17 is “Surgeon is Complete” from Lifeguards’ “Mist King Urth”, which is a Robert Pollard and Doug Gillard side project. It’s a great record.
Incredible how Gillard's tone hasn't changed over the years, even though he's using different amps and effects. It must be down to that sweet LP Custom and the man himself.
Thank you for this ,Love Doug's guitar sound.Love Guided By Voices.
As always you are so impressive, you Sir are great!!!!
Some proper gorgeous reverbs in there
Very cool. The ED Gold has a great bark.
GBV! My all time fav!
"If it's right, you can tell."
Beautiful guitar
Everything he's playing is so gbv...❤️❤️❤️
More Doug excellence.
Awesome.
Songwriting genius!
Legend
flint is so underrated
Bout time
2:04 ECHOES MYRONS!
The boss eq pedal image displayed is a bass version. The stock photo used doesn't look like the eqs on his board.
Great video. Doug is such a great guitarist. Is that a different LPC than the one he usuall plays with the uncovered pickups?
That amp tho. I liked the transmisser but it was really difficult to get a normal reverb off of it.
tf is that last song he plays.. so good
Pop Zeus, from Speak Kindly Of Your Volunteer Fire Department. A fantastic song! Pop genius more like.
Hoping you can get your hands on it.
I'm not selling my copy! Album is loaded with gems.
2:00 Frank and the catholics tone :D Love it
POP ZEUS
GBV!...GBV!
My guess is that lp custom is a 69! reminds me a lot james williamson's 69 lp custom in the stooges!
What's the recording set up for this episode, mic wise?
Call him Max. Send him a fax. Charge him no tax.
Eyyy
GBV!

GEB-7? I understand that it isn't an eqd pedal, but still... #comeonman
Let Paul into a Supro? Very Jimmy Page!
sparkle drive sounded weird to me
S Rawdon I have one. It can be an undertone or overtone mod. I absolutely love it and for the price it’s a killer pedal. It won’t get you to distortion really, but can provide overdrive to creepy tones to just different voices.
All that equipment to do NOTHING.
I love how these series of videos mainly focuses in Non-Shredder guitar players, opposite to the average guitar mag or guitar oriented media that is absolutely obsessed with that aspect of guitar playing, thank you EQD for include a wider variety of guitarists !
Thanks for caring! We will keep bringing you a wide range of stuff...
@@EarthQuakerDevices Awesome !
