Wouldn't exactly call it brainwashing since those who attend do so freely. I'm christian and i interpret the bible in my own way, and there are a lot of different churches and "sub-genres" of christianity. You should check out the ecumenical community of Taizé, in france, inviting hundreds of thousands young people from all over the world, from all backgrounds, religions, political views etc. As i said, I'm a christian, but i still strongly believe in science, the big bang, evolution and so on. You really should be viewing religion as you view politics. All people are entitled to vote for whatever party they wish to be in charge, just as everyone is entitled to go to whatever church they want. Brainwashing is not a free choice, and just because you agree with a certain type of christianity and it's values, doesn't mean you're brainwashed. It means your passionate about what you believe in, just as atheists are all set on the idea of a universe without any god or gods, or anything supernatural. But you don't call atheists brainwashed because they "blindly" follow science. Some say they've seen God or mother Mary, and to that, some say, "i didn't see that so it can't be true, it's not true unless i see it with my own eyes or touch it with my own hands". Same goes for atheists. Some scientists claim there are black holes, and recently a picture of a black hole was released. And people buy it, because some small group of people claim it to be a fact, and there's a picture. Just as some people claim that God and Jesus is real, and they too have pictures of signs of god or jesus or whatever. 99% of the people haven't actually seen or touched a black hole with their own eyes and hands, just as 99% of the people hasnt seen or touched god or jesus. So tell me again, what's the difference and how is religion brainwashing when people freely chose to believe it, just as science is a free choice to believe in. All the "facts" from both sides are shown to everyone, and some chooses to be religious, and some chooses to be atheists, but both groups chooses their belief system based on what a small group claims to be the facts.
@ The brainwashing in the church is not even close to being as dangerous as the brainwashing that takes place in school and in the media. Don`t forget to listen to the science.
