the caliper holds the brake disc on, it is supposed to be free floating, some years have a snap ring toward the outer edge but Im not real familiar with the explorers. You'll wanna keep some never-seize on the shaft or good quality grease that wont sling because if those things rust onto the shaft its very hard to get off without heat and ruining the seals behind it..
