Must be painful to be a talented songwriter in SA. Anton Goosen is the liedjieboer and I like him, but David has by far the best lyrical content and music in my opinion. It always amazes me that a soutie has the ability to write better lyrics in Afrikaans than most Afrikaans speaking songwriters.
Dankie David Kramer, ek is mal oor jou musiek, Afrikaans en uitstekend vertolk. Dan noem ek Koos Kombuis ook as julle ek wil net huistoe gaan. So mooi😢
I saw this show at The Baxter theatre in CT in December 1989 when I was there on honeymoon. I can still put a bit of Kramer on to get out of trouble with my lovely wife of 35 years thanks to that show. What a show!
100%…. I was a lad of about 10 in the mid eighties and I found a Bakgat Boogie LP at a church fete.. 20c it was. I was hooked on David since then…. ;-)
Uitstekend! David, hoe kan ons weer Kat & the Kings kyk?

We had the double vinyl album since those shows in the Baxter theatre in the early 80's.My mother threw it away about 10 years ago arguing;" Man, jy kry nêrens meer naalde vir platespelers ni" Ek was lekker befok oor dit. Went to one of those shows with my dad at age 4 and have no memory of it 😑 It's an absolute gem of a live album. Still my favorite live album. David was in the form of his life and that band was amazing.
One of your best songs in my opinion is "O moeder" . On the record it's recorded in G. Now, for someone who loves his minor chords, I've always played this in a straight Major chord progression and it never sounded wrong. Just listened to this song for the first time in two decades and realized that the second chord after G is actually Bm and not C. Is this correct, David?
Hi Werner, From your description it sounds like you've been missing the D before the C. Here are the chords as I play it. You can of course substitute Bm for the D in the 1st and 3rd line and that would sound slightly different but fine. The time signature is a waltz and if you're a finger picker it works well to pluck the bass note on the first beat of every bar. eg: G strum strum/D strum strum/ C strum strum /G strum strum and so on. O /Moeder my /mond is ‘n /gat vol /wind /G /D /C /G ‘n /Donker /kol teen die /maan / /C /C/ /G /G My /bloed sypel /weg, ‘n /rooi tak in die /sand /G /D /C /G As die /staalblou /son onder/gaan / /C /C/ /G /G /Totsiens Tannie /Es, Tant /Kitty en ou /Bill /D /D /D /D Gee my /kerkpak aan /Boetie of /Pierre / /C /C /G /G Want ek /lê hier al/leen /G /D In ‘n /land sonder /reen /C /G En /huistoe /kom ek nie /weer / /C /C /G /G Mammie wat van Sussie wat sal jy haar vertel Van die lewe en die dood die hemel en die hel Mammie moet haar een aand daar buite gaan wys Die skadus teen die maan die blink suiderkruis En sê vir haar Ouboet is ‘n sterretjie vanaand Wat skyn in die hemel daarbo Vergeet maar gerus van die vlag oor my kis Die leuens wat ons almal wil glo

@@wernercolyn892 Seeing as you like the minor chords, something I often do is substitute the relative minor for the root chord at the end. So you could try substituting Em for G at the end of the verse. This gives it a sadder quality. Another tip would be to hold a D note on the 2nd string on all the chords in the verse. Which makes the high D ring through every chord of the verse. Hope you get what I mean.
@@DavidKramerSAI understand completely. Have to admit I play it usually in D or Eb, because of my very limited crappy voice. Thank you for responding, David. Just one last question: Whenever I listen to Dylan's "Changing of the guards", I can't help thinking that you were heavily influenced by that sound and album. I'm I a fool for thinking this? To my ears it's almost like you wrote that song for Dylan 😁
@@wernercolyn892 If you transpose the chords into Key of C you can try playing the chords of the verse with your pinkie on the G note of the 1st string. I'm not familiar with that Dylan song. But I'll go and have a listen.

Brilliant Boet .... wonder what the Baboons thought of Paul Simon!
I think they watched him walk down the path to the point and said: there goes another ou who thinks this is where the two oceans meet.
