    In February 2016, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) released the following revised registration standards, guidelines and standards for practice:
    • Registration standard: Continuing professional development (CPD)
    • Registration standard: Recency of practice
    • Registration standard: Professional indemnity insurance (PII) arrangements
    • Registration standard: Endorsement as a nurse practitioner
    • Registration standard: Endorsement for scheduled medicines for midwives
    • Safety and quality guidelines for privately practising midwives
    • Registered nurse standards for practice
    The Enrolled nurse standards for practice also commenced on 1 January 2016.
    This session will provide an overview of the changes to these revised standards and guidelines and general update for attendees on relevant policy position of the NMBA with respect to nurses working in primary health care.
    Tanya Vogt was appointed the Executive Officer of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia in July 2014. Tanya has been working in the area of health practitioner regulation in Australia since 2007, and has been directly involved in the development of the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme in Australia.
    Tanya has qualifications in nursing and law and has practised in both areas. The combination of these qualifications has provided a solid foundation for her roles in health practitioner regulation and especially in the role of Executive Officer for the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
