if you watch Mani Bhardwaj's tabla playing more in other accompaniments, you'll see that this is just his style of playing and his gestures show his enthusiasm towards the variations that he plays and when he is able to complete a tihaiee. He's actually quite humble and his guruji was Ustad Tari Khan himself.
