What you have here it's kind of an alternative to a vertical grip for a Canon EOS R 7 but the problem is it doesn't have a shutter button for the vertical position this is what so many other photographers are looking for is a true vertical grip .

Correct. And for me, personally, that's fine. I just wanted something to fit my gorilla paws onto without my fingers dangling, and this solves that for me.

I'm really hoping that Canon puts out a mark II of the R7 that includes a battery grip and a faster sensor to reduce rolling shutter. I love the R7, but improvements can surely be made.

Not sure they have ever, or will ever, make the perfect camera at the perfect price. The more I shoot the R7 the more I like it. I consider this camera the right size and weight for a "carry around" camera. Great for taking a walk, going for a hike. As such, I don't think I would put a vertical battery grip on it if one were available. It would just add weight and bulk that I try and minimalize when hiking. I have been using electronic shutter a lot and haven't noticed much rolling shutter except when panning a fast moving object. The only other thing would be that it takes a second or two, or three to "wake up" after it shuts itself down. The screen comes on, but info on the screen takes a bit longer. If you shoot too fast, before the info comes up, the camera can do some wonky things, like suddenly tell you the card with 1500 images on it is empty, or can't read the images! Scary! Even though they did show up on the computer.

I have been using this on my R7 for a couple of months. I'm starting to notice that the right side where the latch is, is starting to easily bend when I hold my camera. I think it's because that area is thinner and isn't reinforced with metal. I might have to request a warranty fix if it gets worse because it wasn't like that at first.

I've only noticed minor movement on mine in that area. Hopefully they can resolve that for you.

I have a Canon 60D and wanted to up grade and I thought that the R7 would be a good up grade but have been disappointed with the holding of the camera as the R7 is much smaller and not comfortable to hold and even more disappointed that Canon does not make a Pistol Grip for this camera. I now wish I would of waited and looked at other option's.

With the extension grip I am completely in love with the R7. You didn't find the night-and-day faster frames per second a benefit? I've used the 60D and it seems like a dinosaur by comparison. The 60D is horrid in low light, only 3fps, and you don't get the enormous benefit of an electronic viewfinder with a FAR superior autofocus system in the R7.

@@TBGTOMPHOTO You are talking to a dinosaur when it comes to cameras, get ready but I only shoot on AF and with my 60D and it was nice to handle and I was happy with the pictures I took on AF mode. I just wanted a up grade and get a new camera. I am going to order the Pistol Grip that you suggested. Thanks for you input.

How's that going? I have been looking at that camera for video work. Any overheating issues that you've found?

@@TBGTOMPHOTO it's absolutely amazing compared to my old 7dmk2. Not used the video yet so I can't comment on the over heating issue if there is any

Useless in my opinion. Wait for a company to properly design a grip or just buy the next model with support for grips.

Good thing nobody asked for your opinion. I use this grip all the time and it works fantastically for larger sized hands such as mine. I don't need a spare battery in the grip, I only need the extension.
