This is my cover to By The Sword, off the "Slash" album (2010).
About the playing, I tried to be very accurate on the notes and chords, however, regarding the main riff of the song, I changed just a detail on it. Slash plays it using open strings (A and D strings). I play those notes on the E string (5th fret for A note) and A string (5th fret for D note). I changed this for my cover because I get a cleaner playing this way. Anyways, this is just for my cover. My tab is note by note accurate, shows Slash's exact way to play this song.
For the intro I used my Fender CD60c electroacoustic guitar (mic'd with a Shure SM57).
Then I used my 3 electric guitars: a Fender Stratocaster (rhythm guitar on the left), an Epiphone Les Paul Standard (rhythm guitar on the right) and a Gibson Les Paul Custom (lead guitar at the center of the mix).
Both rhythm guitars feature a wah pedal at some point of the song, and the guitar solo is played using a wah too. For this I used my new Dunlop MXR MC404 CAE Crybaby (red inductor, no boost).
For the electric guitars I used my usual recording way, I only added the wah to the chain:
guitar -- wah pedal -- marshall ma50c amp -- shure sm57 mic in front of the amp's speaker -- m audio interface --- computer (Cubase records my sound).
The amp settings usually dont sound the same on different amps, but if youre interested on knowing my amp settings, here they are:

hes recorded a lot of songs since GnR, I know hes used several effects (chorus, crybaby, talk box, delay, maybe overdrive pedals, etc.). On his latest shows, he even uses a tremolo, booster, blue box, phaser...
But he uses those only sometimes. Theres a couple of things that never change: the raw distorted marshall tube 'ish tone and the les paul. If you have these, you can play any gnr/slash song with very decent tone.

Great job! If Frankie ever gets tired of playing with Slash, you could definitely step up and fill his shoes. Anytime you see a player make it look easy, you know they've got it down. Well done.

its a regular custom from 1981
I just restored it and paint it that way. The backs and sides look black, but theyre actually natural (since mahogany is a dark wood)

Are you Slash himself? Great covers. This one is one of my fav from Slash and you did it perfectly. I could listen to this instead of real "By the sword". NICE

Obviamente ambas suenan diferente, por las pastillas que tiene cada una y la madera con la que fueron construidas, pero ambas suenan con la misma calidad de sonido (recuerda que a la Epiphone le puse unas alnico II pro y le cambié el cableado).
En cuando a diferencias físicas, la Gibson es fabricada con mejores materiales y tiene mas tiempo invertido en los detalles estéticos, pero esto no mejora el sonido. Además la Custom es como 1kg más pesada xD

I mic a marshall ma50c amp with a shure sm57 connected to a m audio interface (which is plugged to the computer via usb). Then I use Cubase studio 5 to record my sound.

Well, I would go for the Gibson lp studio 50s tribute. Why? well, cuz its a Gibson.
I always say, Epiphones are your best option if you cant afford a Gibson. But if you can afford a Gibby, then go for it :D
Just keep in mind the epi lp std has a 60s neck, and the gibson you tell me has a 50s neck (a bit thicker). Be sure you like the neck of any of them before buying :)
Si consideras que una Gibson les paul std no baja de 2000 dólares y que una Epiphone lp std cuesta solo 400, yo creo que las Epiphone son muy buenas guitarras.
Lo único recomendable es cambiarle las pastillas a tu epi y tendrás un gran instrumento.

I used a marshall ma50c amp, a mc404 crybaby and my guitars. Thats all.
I wont say this gear gives me that classic slash tone, but its the basic combo that gets you very close.
You just need a marshall tube amp, a crybaby, and a les paul (with alnico II pro pickups if possible). His sound is not so complicated as some guys think.

Im just a student of the guitar my friend, I think Im a regular guitarist with 6 years of experience.
If you keep playing youll be better than me in no time. Its up to you.
Btw, I started when I was 20. And you dont learn as fast at that age xD Youre lucky to start at such young age.
I didnt do it by myself, I took it to a luthier and talked to him about the possibility of adding another fret to that guitar. He thought about it and he told me it might be possible.
He just added a bit of maple wood to the end of the neck and added the new fret using the same fender scale.
Its actually very simple.
My guitar goes to my amp (marshall ma50c) and that all.
For recording: shure sm57 mic in front of amp --> m audio fast track interface --> computer (where cubase records)
That pretty much it :P
I used to record using an effects pedal. But since I bought my tube amp, I changed my recording way, and started mic'ing :D
Still today, no pedalboard gives you the crunch, growl and dynamics of a real tube amp.
I know man.
Cant do anything about it.
Some time ago, my zep covers would be up for everybody for a while, then yt would block them for the USA. Now, they block it at the very moment I upload it. YT sucks more everytime.

You mean the neck? Feels pretty much the same as any other neck I've played before (talking about steel string acoustic guitars)
I didnt do anything special. I just put the mic in front of the guitar and start recording. I guess this cheap fender sounds pretty decent :P

As you can see, I used the treble pickup (volume at max). But I started with tone at 0 and raised it to 5 for the 2nd half of the solo.
No hay forma de quitarle un instrumento a una canción. Otra cosa sería si se tratara de un archivo MTF (multitrack file) o si tuvieras los master tracks de la canción original.
Lo que mucha gente hace cuando una guitarra está completamente tirada hacia uno de los canales, sea izquierdo o derecho, es eliminar ese canal y después duplicar el otro y pegarlo en el lado que se eliminó. Esto se hace con cualquier editor de audio como Cubase o FL studio.

Si te agradan las Gibson 57 classic, deberías checar el modelo Epiphone Les Paul Tribute Plus. Entre los detalles superiores a los de un modelo standard están las pastillas, precisamente las 57 classic.

La historia sobre mi nombre es larga, pero en pocas palabras, yo quería que mi yt name fuera gewehr43, pero ya estaba ocupado, así que cambié de lugar la "h", y quedó como gewerh43.

El MA50c es un buen ampli de bulbos, tu mejor opción si no cuentas con más de 750 dólares. Pero, como en todo, hay mejores opciones que lógicamente son más caras. Por ejemplo, el Modern Vintage, o algún combo JCM800 o JCM2000.

I mic my amp and send the mic's signal to an interface connected to the pc.
Cubase software in my pc records my sound.
both are great guitars and very comfortable to play.
Except the Epi, because of the pickups, is more versatile.

mi Epiphone me salió en 5000 pesos, y las pastillas Seymour Duncan Alnico II pro (regulares, no son slash signature) me costaron 1400 cada una.

Mi compu graba mi sonido con Cubase. Después solo genero el audio y lo sincronizco con el video o videos usando Powerdirector

Una Gibson es construida con una mejor calidad y con mejores materiales. Puedes estar seguro que la madera que usan en ellas y los acabados en toda la guitarra son superiores (como la pintura y binding). Por estos factores pero, principalmente, por su prestigio es que una lp standard de Gibson cuesta al menos 4 veces lo que cuesta una de Epiphone.
Aunque la verdad, escuchando una grabación de una gibson y luego una epiphone con mejores pastillas nadie podría decir con certeza cuál es cuál.
