  • OPERATION ABOLITION is an infamous 1960 documentary produced by the House Committee on Un-American Activities (a.k.a House Un-American Activities Committee or HUAC). The film focuses on an incident on May 13, 1960 when the Committee convened in San Francisco’s City Hall. While the committee met, students protested in the hallways and outside the building, leading to clashes with the police and the arrest of 64 students. "Operation Abolition"shows footage of the incident taken from subpoenaed San Francisco TV station newsreels, using that footage to allege that the students were Communists and/or instigated by Communist agents. The film’s narrators, Representative Francis E. Walter, Chairman of HUAC, and Fulton Lewis III, son of a prominent anti-communist radio commentator, suggest that the protesters were members of and/or “duped” by groups whose ultimate goal was to destroy the committee, weaken the FBI, and reduce the enforcement powers of the Federal government. Despite being a newsreel produced by a government agency, Operation Abolition was surprisingly popular. According to Time Magazine, an estimated 15 million people saw this film.
In response to "Operation Abolition" a counter film was made entitled "Operation Correction". Operation Correction shows the same footage as Operation Abolition, interspersed with added commentary by Ernest Besig, the Executive Director of the ACLU of Northern California.

My sister was in her third year at U.C. Berkeley when one of her professors recommended the students go down to the San Francisco City Hall and "see what was going on". When she casually remarked about it during a long-distance phone call, it led to a flood of panicked phone calls from every relative in the family, far and wide, both democrat or republican: "Don't go! Please don't go! Please don't even talk about how you thought about going! Just don't talk to any strangers who ask you anything." Everyone in our family was paranoid that the FBI in order to solve American unemployment problems would immediate investigate all the relatives of anyone who went down to check on HUAC. The FBI would also investigate the friends of all these relatives, and then investigate all of their neighbors, their co-workers, the friends of the neighbors plus the neighbors of their friends. It could lead to millions being permanently fired, which according to the FBI would be a good thing, because of these job openings could be given to the "real Americans", the ones who loved the flag the most, loved freedom and so forth, but above all, loved HUAC and the FBI. Of course, all of this changed after the death of Hoover, and the resignation of Nixon some 12 years later. I spent my entire life, wishing these people, HUAC and their allies would all die of old age, but instead they passed on their ideology of younger generations, eventually resulting in January 6, 2021.

Of course all opposition to HUAC is obviously communist. What exactly do we call gangs that storm the capital? Nazi white supremacists??? Antifa originated as a communist front group in 1930s, republican party started out as a northeast liberal party And now neither is close to what they "started" out as. 2yr old

If you don't see the double standard in your approach to this protest vs the one in Congress last January, then you are an old fool indeed. An unarmed protester was shot dead this year. Presumably you cheered. So it's a bit hard to hear the UC Communists moaning that they bumped their booties on some stone steps in 1960. Look at the journey you have made. You've gone from distrusting and hating the FBI to unambiguously sniffing their throne. You obviously have zero self-awareness, so ... 🤷

you' re completely blind. You have no idea of what is really going on. You are the useful idiot.

No idea how that circled around to January 6th. Great initial point ruined by modern partisan rhetoric talking point. The FBI is apolitical and state suppression carries on no matter who's in power.

I remember this crap going on when I was in college. When I was in the Army there was even a crazy general who rounded up all the officers (including me), made us watch this movie, and delivered a crazy speech afterwards. Today, my question is, if the HUAC could put people in jail for refusing to testify, why can't the 6 Jan Committee do the same??

Goddamn this is hilarious. Notice how often he says communist. Its fascist intent is rather despicable. These students were very brave, I'm glad they created the film "operation correction" which more accurately shows what happened.

We are a Republic. There is no Constitutional right to subvert that. That's the problem with people. Simple minds can't understand that Communism kills civilized social structure.
