@@TheThreatenedSwan And we should be courteous to each other and analyze rationally instead of entrenching into our tribes. I apologize for mocking the infinite turtles analogy. (I am aware this is a youtube comment section and we are not supposed to be civilized or admit error, but I am genuinely reflecting that I shouldn't have been laughing at them)
@@anonanon6764 I'm thinking that's just about infinite regression. The world on a turtle thing was popularized by Guns, Germs and Steel
@@TheThreatenedSwan I guess the opinion behind my original mockery was that fundamental truths about the world require tremendous effort, standing on the shoulders of giants to observe, hypothesize, research the reality of the world around us. Not playing word games and making abstract logical theories while talking about ancient literature.
"It's necessary to speak analogically, but atheists clearly don't take their own beliefs seriously." What beliefs? Atheism has no inherent beliefs.@@TheThreatenedSwan
God Davide NAILED Dawkins! Even the voice is almost perfect!
The funniest part is that he wrote the book because he thought religion was damaging to society and in May 2024 he went on record saying he thinks Christian society is the best society to live in and he wouldn’t prefer living in another, calling himself a “cultural christian”
God, Davids impersonation of Richard is flawless!!!
It's impressive that this show commented on the heart of the New Atheism movement, and why it merged so smoothly with the Alt-Right: ""That's not why it sells, Richard; people like the denying, the censensus smashing". And lo and behold, the denial of global warming, the moon landing, and even a round Earth (something too ridiculous even for 2010) have all taken an ideological stand beside the supposed rational thinkers.
That air of clipped precision combined with faintly repressed exasperation.
He's just doing an "impression" of himself. David Mitchell talks like that normally!
All Mitchell's doing is putting on a posher accent, it's basically his exact voice but more royal. Calm yourself.
if you can keep yer shit together that's science for you!
I wish they'd commissioned that Pizza Express exposé. Dawkins would have nailed it.
Its much better without the laugh track
But how else are you supposed to know when to laugh?
JayFe0 im not American so its not an issue
I'm a Christian and I found that funny
That Dawkins impression is surprisingly great!
He really nailed that Dawkins voice!
It's David Mitchell's normal voice. It's not an impersonation.
@@DaBIONICLEFan It may sound the same as David Mitchell's natural speaking voice to you, but it very much isn't. This why the majority of people are commenting with praise for David's impersonation. I can hear some similarity, but David has changed his cadence, vocal rhythm, speed, accent, and most extraordinarily, vocal tone. It's probably easier for me to hear the nuances, having studied music and Mandarin tones.
If there is something I don't get about David Mitchell then it's his misconstrued dislike of atheism. I don't mind him not calling himself an atheist, but he's claimed numerous times that the position of Dawkins and other famous atheists is that "they know that there isn't a god", which according to Mithcell, is ludicrous. For a man who apparently loves correctness and even pedantry, one would think that he would have heard at least one of the millions of atheists pointing to the dictonary definition "atheists do not believe in god" and thus ending his straw man. I'm such a huge Mitchell fan, and also an atheist, so this really grinds my gears.
Damn! That's a spot-on impression!👍
"I've seen a ghost, that was weird. I don't believe in ghosts but I've definitely seen one, do you believe in ghosts?"
"No."
"Well there we go then, "The Ghost Delusion.""
Lmfao brilliant
Someone should turn up at a Dawkins signing with a mock-up of this.
That's a wicked-good voice impression.
Trump called himself best thing since Jesus. New American god confirmed.
Trump says "Jesus, what a loser." He will regret his words and his fake show of faith very soon, Jesus is back messiahsword.weebly.com All things that can be known are made manifest in the Book that will never decay (being digital) “The Nature of Energy” (Barnes & Noble, 2020) www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-nature-of-energy-patrick-boardman/1136605760?ean=2940163956876
Quantum Theory states: [m=E/c² where E=∞=God]
(Note: Outside variables such as the Dirac Antimatter equation would consider this equivalency first in the order of operations. Matter is finite with infinite potential to balance out to zero in the particle-antiparticle annihilation process.) Energy equals infinity equals God, the matrix of all matter and the Creator of all units of consciousness.
he's obviously never heard of the Beatles
"But it's an empirical fact! The planets didn't come to us, we came to them! Just look at the stars!"
- Richard Dawkins, 28 June 2008
"Christ!"
"You've already done him he comes under God"
ROFL
Dawkins voice is spot on.
"That's not what sells, people like the denying..." That sums up his popularity perfectly. People just want to feel better than others and by belittling theists they do so.
+Reece Swaby Yeah, it has absolutely nothing to do with the demonstrably damaging effects of delusional beliefs. Keep on hating gays, opposing reproductive rights, science education and generally fucking up the world because of your superstitious programming.
Fucktard. "Belittling" - indeed. It's not exactly unreasonable to demand that people have actual reasons for what they believe when the actions resulting from those beliefs apparently are solely damaging to society. Nor is it unreasonable to call people out on the fact that they in fact can't answer such demands *yet still insist that their baseless delusions are somehow deserving of respect*. That stuff is the sign of a sick and polluted mind. You should be ashamed of yourself.
I'm actually an atheist and it isn't just theists who are homophobic dogmatic or hold any other damaging beliefs
+Reece Swaby And the glorious sound of "oooh, snap," could be heard across the world.
+Reece Swaby That's probably true of some people, but not, I suspect, the majority.
Buffoon1980 definitely not the majority thankfully
Disturbingly... I have both of those jackets.
Me too. The Oxfam delusion.
i mean i love robert webb but i think it's pretty clear david mitchell is the more talented of the duo right?
Interestingly David thinks the opposite. But I guess nice people always underestimate them self.
blenderpanzi Obviously David wouldn't say 'oh i am the most talented of the duo' because he would come across as an asshole and immodest
Every double act has the more talented one. Robert Webb has made me laugh many times in both this and Peep Show though.
I think they're both amazing comedians with different strengths :)
The Comedians Should Only Work With Partners Of Equal Talent delusion, I like where you're going with that!
