The placement of the retract switch is actually ingenious. When you stab someone, the blade will pierce them, then automatically retract instantly because the full stab depresses the retract tab, allowing for a lightning strike and a fast withdrawal, likely before anyone even knows what's happened, because it will look like you just pushed them. Very Assassin-y.

If there was also a safety tab/button on the side of the covering that would lock it up while retracted so you don't accidentally extend it then it'd be literally perfect for a real assassin.
I wouldn't say perfect since most assassinations today are done remotely like with a bomb or sniper rifle (and the obvious string could give it away) but yeah it could be a very good choice for CQB in clandestine ops
@@paulchro_ put the movies down. People are killed face to face everyday. Just 2 days ago we had someone shoot someone else when they were 4 feet from the person.
I ordered mine and it came in. It works well until you've used it a decent amount of times with the pull on the string and retracting. I've noticed that the skull insignia is glued onto the base which fell off a couple of times, in which I had to re glue it back on. On the second day of playing around with it, it starting jamming up but I eventually fixed it, or so I thought. Turns out that on the bottom of the mechanism, there are two loose pieces that actually fell out of the device. I managed to put it all back together but the two pieces mentioned easily fling off when you have the hidden blade facing flat down. The pieces also fling off when pulling on the string which is a major downfall to this product. Disclaimer, this is for my hidden blade that I ordered from the link and could be different to others that are shipped. I'm currently trying to find a fix for this but I am not able to find any sort of help.
I agree! It would be really cool. If I remember correctly, the dual action mechanism might have more legal issues involved with it than say a single action spring assisted blade.

Hey, Libertas! I've wanted to make my own hidden blade props for quite some time. When I finish my first, could you please review it? I'd love to hear your opinions. And better yet, I could learn if you have any issues with my blade, that way I can fix it. Notes: • The blade will be featured in a How-To-Make video (based on Indy Mogul's "Backyard" FX series). So, if you want to make it instead, you can. • There will be two versions of the blade in the tutorial: a BFX prop and a forged prop. Since you like the more realistic ones, I recommend you watch the second half of the video. • The mechanism will be based on the official concept art for Assassin's Creed and Altair's codex page from the second game. This might enhance its durability, prevent jamming and allow quick extension and retraction of the blade.
Perfect timing with this video. I actually recieved Ezio's and Edward's Hidden Blade today. Took a month for both to be mailed to me as it comes from Hong Kong. Cost me 78 dollars each which isn't too bad. Downside is Ezio's Hidden Blade wasn't exactly the same as the one in the picture they were selling. The base is supposed to be metal but instead it is plastic which I do not recommend people to buy because the hoop that holds the strap to wrap around your wrist broke. Edward's is all metal which is the exact same one in your video Libertas. Its extremely fun, badass, and addictive to keep extending the blade over and over again. Edward's Hidden Blade looks almost exactly the same as Mcfarlanes plastic toy as Ezio's Hidden Blade doesn't even look close to Neca's plastic toy which kinda sucks. Oh and the fact that it broke literally in minutes that I was using it
@@LibertasVideo just the hoop but that's ok because I'm gonna have the steel piece to be cut so I can replace the plastic base and I'm gonna replace the plastic blades with stainless steel and sharpen the blade
Very cool! Good to know, as I am very interested in the Ezio hidden blade a well. I like your plan of replacing the hoop with more durable materials. Another idea would be too make a leather mounting plate - similar to what was seen on the McFarlane Edward Blade. I did something similar when I made my Edward gauntlet, so that the leather would take the strain of the straps rather than the thin plastic on the hidden blade housing. But your idea sounds like it would supply even stronger support. Very cool and thanks for the input!
@@LibertasVideo anytime I'm always glad to help you with whatever materials you want to go with your hidden blade and I love your real leather gauntlet. Unfortunately I don't have the skills to stitch leather so i used the actual base covers from both mcfarlanes and necas fake leather toy to mount the hidden blades. Funny enough the mcfarlanes fit perfectly onto Edward's hidden blade where ezio's was a little too long so I had to cut through the fake leather to slide in ezio's hidden blade. Both fit nice and sturdy except for ezio as it hangs off a little due to the hoop snapped
Question: could you theoretically trim that tab down to open up a bit more wrist movement? Based on my knowledge of how DAOTF mechanisms work, combined with what I see here, it does extend even further while the blade is out, so it doesn't seem like it should affect the ability to retract the blade

My review and opinion on this hidden blade; The overall weight of the whole piece is very balanced. Not too heavy either. The blade is a bit flimsy, [unsure if there were other material options] but I'd assume it's hard to make a sturdy plastic blade with a cut-out down the middle. When I tried fixing it to the underside of my forearm the straps weren't quite long enough, but after undoing them and re-adjusting how they went through the holes I was able to make it work just fine. The whole piece shifts around diagonally a bit, so I suggest wearing it on top of a long sleeved shirt to add more friction. The small metal piece you push on sort of had the same issue length wise. At first it felt like a trade off had to be made; Push the piece farther up your forearm in order to easily push the metal piece down, or slide the piece down your forearm in order to easily retract the blade. But with some adjustments to the string length you can easily counter this problem, or you might not have to since everyone's hands are different. Edit: This review is based off about 12 hours with it. I may come back to edit my review in the long run.
Can you still buy this? whenever I press a link to one on eBay it says not found, I’m guessing eBay banned it because the world is so soft now Edit: just found one on Amazon but it’s £123.99 , is that the normal price?

My review and opinion on this hidden blade;
The overall weight of the whole piece is very balanced. Not too heavy either.
The blade is a bit flimsy,
[unsure if there were other material options]
but I'd assume it's hard to make a sturdy plastic blade with a cut-out down the middle.
The small metal piece you push on sort of had the same issue length wise. At first it felt like a trade off had to be made;
Push the piece farther up your forearm in order to easily push the metal piece down, or slide the piece down your forearm in order to easily retract the blade.
But with some adjustments to the string length you can easily counter this problem, or you might not have to since everyone's hands are different.
Edit: This review is based off about 12 hours with it. I may come back to edit my review in the long run.

Where can I find the assassins creed 2 version of this?
Can you still buy this? whenever I press a link to one on eBay it says not found, I’m guessing eBay banned it because the world is so soft now
Edit: just found one on Amazon but it’s £123.99 , is that the normal price?
Thanks for letting me know the link was down. Updated the link. I hope that helps
