I don't remember exactly when it happened, but at some point in my 20s I realized that Paul had completely hijacked the Jesus narrative and twisted it into his own religion. I realized he was an opportunist extraordinaire. What we think of as Christianity today is in reality Paulism. Sad truth.

@@Jesus_was_God This doesn't have anything to do with Islam, let's not compare religions. My problem with many people in the chat is that they believe just because Paul gave the message, the message is his. It is not, many believe The Law and The Prophets are divinely inspired writings. My question is why doesn't this same treatment apply to Paul? We do not say Isaiah and Jeremiah or Ezekiel are writing out of their own thoughts, but The Word of God. Paul's background is rather irrelevant as well. Paul being knowledgeable about Greco-Roman culture and affairs is good and beneficial as it allows him to relate more to Greek and Roman audiences, but they speak as if Paul's adaptive preaching nature is not favorable. I object, Paul only used Greek philosophers' quotes because it is what his audience, often being Greek are familiar with and when he preached to Jews as in Hebrews, he spoke to them about Christ to a Hebrew perspective

Here is my view on Paul and indeed the Gospels, I am in my early 70s, London born and bred in a cultural Anglican home. Dad never went to church, and Mum was hostile to it due to her Catholic background of strict nuns with zero compassion who used to like hitting children. I always had an innate sense of the divine and still do. I went to Sunday school, was and spent 10 years in a church school from age 7 to 17. I got involved in evangelical churches believing the church doctrine, including that when you become a Christian, you receive the Holy Spirit.. I always found the teaching of Jesus totally at odds with Paul's, yet I probably thought the ecclesiastical experts had almost 2000 years of tradition and cultural beliefs and therefore must be right. Part of me thought, well we are English, we know the truth, none of these other religions can be true. I don't necessarily agree with Dr Ali Altie that the Gospels are based on Paul's writings as much of what Jesus taught seems opposite to Paul. Paul is incredibly judgemental of people who aren't saved, and considering Paul talks about Grace, that is why I find him judgemental. Jesus, according to Matthew, made it abundantly clear he didn't like the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. He also made it clear in the Sermon on the Mount that it pleases God. He said that God requires mercy and not sacrifice. He spoke of practical issues like being a peacemaker and not judging because those who do will be judged. He also said to be Holy as the father in heaven is Holy. In essence, we should strike toward the goal. In Arabic, the word used is Jihad.. Jesud never said, look, wait until they crucify me, then simply believe that God took it on me and you can forget strving. If you are not prepared to strive, then it's a cop out, and bear in mind Jesus said God doesn't want a sacrifice. In 2013, I decided that I would follow what Jesus said. I will follow the example. This may not sit too well with some people, but this is my journey. I honestly do not know what to make of the biblical Scriptures. Renowned biblical Professor Bart Erhman is an agnostic who entered bible college as a fundamentalist but now isn't. He studies the scriptures out of historical and not faith. He also does believe that Christ was crucified and looks for historical clues. The earliest Christian writings are Paul's, they predate the Gospels, did Paul meet Jesus? Well, just because Paul said so doesn't mean it's true. The Gospels were not written by contemporaries of Christ. They were anonymously written in Greek, whilst Jesus and his mates spoke Aramaic. Much of Matthew is copied from Luke according to Erhman and others, so even quoting Matt 5, I have no idea if it happened or if writers have embellished the truth for their own ends . Interesting a verse in Philippians supposedly pen by Paul is Phillipians 2v12 work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure This is exactly what I believe. It is probably a generic statement beyond a specific faith even to the point of being one of the pillars of faith in Islam about doing good deeds and charity. Say God, who is ONE God the eternal refuge God was neither born nor gives birth God has no equivalent, no superiors.

According to the book of Acts, the early disciples of Jesus were called followers of the “Way”. I can’t help but think how much this correlates to Sirat Al-Mustaqeem (the straight path/way).
Wahb b. Munabbih (d. ~725 CE) is an early authority in ḥadīth who is known for his transmission of Isrā’īlīyāt. In the Tafsīr of al-Baghawī (d. 1122), in the exegesis of Surat Yāsīn, a tradition from Wahb b. Munabbih states that Paul was one of the messengers sent to a community of disbelievers: “’We sent two to them’ (36:14). Wahb said: John and Paul … ‘so We strengthened them with a third’ (36:14) the third messenger was Simon [Peter].” Al-Baghawī identifies these “apostles” as messengers sent by Jesus to the city of Antioch. After the first to were sent, calling the city and its king to abandon their idols, they were imprisoned and flogged. So, Jesus sent Peter to assist them, whereupon he cured a child of his blindness in the company of the king. *No wonder the first Christ-followers were called "People of The Way". Jesus Himself said, "I am The WAY, The Truth and The Life. No one can come to the Father except through Me."*

I came to islamic conclusions before I discovered Islam. Weird.
The book "St Paul and Epicurus" by Norman DeWitt explains how Paul "borrowed" liberally from the ancient Epicurean communities: the practices of communion and of confession, he got his ethics from the comparative studies of vices versus virtues (about which both Epicurus and Philodemus of Gadara had entire books), the epistolary method of teaching (Epicurus wrote epistles to Menoeceus, Pythocles and Herodotus), and many other examples. He basically argued that Paul must have studied with the Epicureans and later rejected them, but appropriated their communal methods, and that this is what he meant when he said that in younger years he believed in the "elements" (Epicureans were atomists) but as he got old he abandoned physics and adopted supernaturalism.

To summarize the life of Paul the Apostle in a way that acknowledges both his significant contributions to Christianity and the skepticism some hold about his character, it is important to approach his narrative with nuance. Paul, originally known as Saul of Tarsus, was a fervent Jewish Pharisee who initially opposed the early followers of Jesus Christ, participating in the persecution of Christians. His life took a dramatic turn during an event on the road to Damascus, where he claimed to have encountered the resurrected Jesus. This transformative experience led him to convert to Christianity and become one of its most prominent advocates. After his conversion, Paul committed himself to spreading the message of Jesus throughout the Roman Empire. He traveled extensively, establishing various Christian communities and writing epistles addressing church practices, theology, and ethical living. His letters, such as those to the Corinthians, Galatians, and Romans, are integral to the New Testament and have profoundly influenced Christian doctrine and belief. Those who view Paul critically, perhaps labeling him a liar, may argue that his self-appointed apostleship is questionable. Unlike the original twelve apostles, he did not personally accompany Jesus during his earthly ministry, which raises doubts about his authority. Furthermore, some critics contend that Paul may have manipulated his account and the teachings of Jesus to consolidate his own power and influence within the early church. However, understanding Paul within the historical and cultural context of his time is essential. He was navigating a world brimming with diverse religious beliefs and practices. His writings often express a deep conviction about his experiences and the transformative message of Jesus, reflecting the complexities of faith amidst societal challenges. Regardless of differing opinions on his authenticity, Paul’s contributions to Christianity and Western thought remain significant. His life encourages exploration of deep philosophical questions surrounding truth, belief, and the nature of religious experience. Whether seen as a figure of integrity or deceit, Paul represents a profound journey of faith, conversion, and the quest for understanding in a multifaceted world. Engaging with Paul’s legacy allows for critical reflection on truth and belief, prompting a broader dialogue about authenticity in religious experience and the nature of conviction.

also yall... Paul after Damascus goes and "meditates" in Egypt for some time before he begins his "missionary" journey or whatever... So at that point in time what was going on in Egypt and what stories or religion do we have from Egypt??? We get the story of Horus (crucified between two thieves). Paul's letters and influence were before the completion of any "gospels" we have. So it seems obvious he went to Egypt and prob studied Hellenistic derived Kemetic mysticism (remember Alex the Great has already been through here) and basically used this to influence people. Thats why its important as a Muslim to study and study and study. Seek wisdom and knowledge. LailahaillAllah!

So, our challenge to Dr. Ataie is to PROVE that Paul did not meet the earthly Jesus. Thank you.
@@SilverRaysBeauty44 this video is not based upon that idea, that's just a passing remark which you are choosing to focus on instead of the hard hitting points
In Romans 3:7-8, Paul actually states the opposite of what the man in the video claims. He rejects the idea that lying for the sake of God’s glory is acceptable, arguing that it is wrong to do evil to achieve a good outcome.
Even in Acts u have the "disciples" casting lots to pick their twelve apostle no room for 13 yet paul calling himself an apostle would make it 13 which contradicts "Jesus" who said there will be 12 in heaven judging the 12 tribes of Israel, also a side note i believe Daniel 9 a cut off messiah is about James the brother of Jesus, as it says in the last 7 years a messiah will be cut off and the temple destroyed, as we know a messiah can be a high priest too
I'd say Paul was a self-loathing gay/bisexual man who was combative when it comes to his views of the Jesus movement. I also happen to believe that he intentionally took over the Jesus movement with various tactics and turned it into a religion revolving around his narrative regarding Jesus.

Yes. And regarding the earliest Islamic writings about Paul it says, "One of the earliest exegeses is that of Muqātil b. Sulaymān (d. 767 CE), a Sunni or Zaydi storyteller, who reported that the two messengers were Thomas and Paul. The same account is reported by Ibn al-Jawzī (d. 1201 CE) in his Tafsīr . Ibn Kathīr (d. 1373 CE) reports from a different chain that the first two messengers were Peter and John, and the third messenger was Paul. Shawkānī repeats this in his Tafsīr . Of course, historically, Paul had never physically met Jesus during the latter’s ministry; and although this story is common in Muslim exegeses, it is not found in Christian literature." In the chronicle Tārīkh Dimishq by Ibn ʿAsākir (d. 1175 CE), another report by Wahb details the story of Paul. "Paul was from the leaders of the Jews. He was the harshest among them and the most spiteful among them in rejecting what the Messiah brought … he gathered soldiers and went to the Messiah to kill him and prevent him from entering Damascus. So, he (Jesus) sent a meteor to him, and an angel struck him with its wing and blinded him. Thus, he saw a proof for what he had brought … resulting in his belief and confirmation of it. So, he met the Messiah upon that, and he asked him to heal his eye. The Messiah said, ‘How long will you harm Me and harm those with Me?'" None of the above is Biblical since they all date from hundreds of years to a thousand years after Paul was martyred and yet none of the earliest muslim commentators said anything about Paul teaching or writing a different Gospel. Islam always has been and always will be a false religion of Satan and therefore Satan still tries to persecute those who were martyred for the sake of Jesus Christ. No wonder such islamic lies continue through today!

Excellent podcast! I think Paul preached whatever he thought to be correct, however what he preached was NOT the correct Israelite monotheism. His thinking was a product of Hellenic Judaism, which was there even before Jesus was born. Philo of Alexandria was also preaching Hellenic Judaism. The 18 Apocrypha books of OT have ample Greek influences, those were written down before Christ. That Greek thought influenced the Gospels and Paul's thinking. He most certainly hated James, and was only interested in preaching his mind, and not the actual teachings of Jesus.
I can't guess how genuine or cynical he was in ambition and intent. I do think he expected that Christianity would die out like so many other startup sects, if it were left up to James. I also think he was an entrepreneur/spin artist who "saved" the sect by turning it into something different.

My hypothesis is Paul knew of the prophet to come (Muhammad pbuh) and believed it was himself. He took the opportunity to become the one prophesied in Isiah.
For years I assumed Paul was the twelfth apostle, replacing Judas. I knew there were only 12 Apostles, the name of each on each gate of the New Jerusalem. Paul is the only one who claims he was an apostle: self-proclaimed, which is a huge red flag. Luke clearly states he wasn't an apostle. On multiple occasions Like mentions the apostles and Paul separately. But I don’t reject everything he wrote. Some of it is some pretty good stuff!
Paul cannot be the 12th Apostle because Judas Iscariot's name is written in the foundation stones of the New Jerusalem. Without Judas, Jesus wouldn't have been crucified for our sins???
Literal Goosebumps watching this, from the Yeshua - Joshua discovery, to the Fact that Paul Potentially authored the Gospels, super insightful and supported by scripture, i mean we need a story with artwork to really send this home, cause i think thats the only way they will watch and listen, if its told and shown descriptively, it would also make for an amazing timeline showcase.
Paul was so full of himself. He has so much ego coming through when he speaks. He subverted the movement and his legacy is generations of Christians following false teachings. Paul- the first televangelist, before television existed. It’s crazy that half of the New Testament is written by Paul, and people hold these teachings of him up to be the “word of God”. It is not “Christianity”. It is “Churchianity”!
Outstanding!!!! However, may I split hairs? There was no such thing as "Jew" during that period in history. Saul/Paul was an Edomite by birth. Idumea was the stronghold of the Edomites or Dominion of Edom (as well as the dominion of the Pharisees - Pharisaism was the political or religious movement of the Edomites; ultimately Pharisaism became known as Talmudism, then Judaism). The term "Edom" was contracted and almost slang-ized over hundreds of years to Hooeys or Iueys and other variations. By the 21st Century, the word had become "Jew". The word popped up in the Schofield for the 1st time. "Jew" was never a contraction for Judah (a family line) or Judea (a physical place). Jesus was both a Judahite and a Judean, but never a Jew. Jesus was not an Edomite but an Israelite. In a nutshell, Saul/Paul, the Pharisee of the Pharisees, an Edomite, essentially neutralized ALL of God's Laws (remember, Jesus said he did not come to change one whit of His Father's Laws, but to refresh them) and all of Jesus' teachings. Saul/Paul - MOST IMPORTANTLY - refocused Christianity on an unquantifiable "faith" versus the faithfulness that God demanded and Jesus reinforced.
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8;44
We should not forget that all these early disciples had also their personal failures or weaknesses in character.. Even though according to your understanding Paul was a charlatan.. or controversial figure.. He then turned out to be presumably the most important leader in spreading and unfolding the early christian movement and religion.
According to Dr.Ray Haggins, ex-Christian preacher, now Africakan-Conciousness preacher. PAUL was a self-word-contrdictory preacher who wrote much illogical gibberish. I agree with Haggins .
Hold a debate with historians and theologians of Christianity rather than having a Muslim scholar to articulate his own ideas with no criticism and pushback.
I don't necessarily like debates but I tend to agree with you that this discussion by Dr Ataie is missing something. You mentioned "historians and theologians of Christianity". I think if Blogging Theology would have invited a good Christian scholar to participate in this discussion, it would be more beneficial in understanding Saint Paul's theology and ideas. I do try to respect the scholarly knowledge of Dr Ataie. And I'm trying to be open-minded to criticism and questioning that pertains to the New Testament books. I have no desire to be offensive to Muslims but I personally feel that such one-sided discussions will just encourage judgemental attitudes. However I know this is basically a channel for Islam. I need guidance from God and patience to understand better. I appreciate your honesty. God bless and guide us. Respectfully....

PAUL WAS NO CHARLATAN! Neither of you know the Bible. I teach the Bible and Paul preached what he was taught by Jesus. Amazing how all these false religions hate Paul. Y’all hate Paul because Paul was very effective and was the most effective apostle. I noticed myself doing this work that the more you become hated by evil. You may be a “Theologian”, but there’s something you can NOT learn from academia and that is knowing the spiritual applications of the Bible that only the Holy Spirit can teach. It doesn’t matter what kind of degree you have or how many years we spent in school, no one could teach the Bible better than the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is better than any professor or scholar in the World combined. To truly know the Bible, you have to have the word written upon your heart by the Holy Spirit.
Muslims hate Jesus , but they can't say that , so they put the problem on Paul . Paul didn't deviate from the teachings of Jesus in the new testament .
@@slimmoe So why your Allah stole exclusive words of Paul and put them in his Quran ? And why you are interested if our Bible corrupted ? Where's word " Father " in your Quran to be interested ?
@@slimmoe Yeah he did, because if you bothered reading the Bible, you would learn the the Disciples were instructed by Jesus in the spirit to teach Paul and help him. Paul was so holy that even the handkerchiefs and aprons that touched him healed people and cast out demons. Acts 19:12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were carried away to the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them❤❤❤
Wouldn’t you say then that Paul was greater than Jesus because he didn’t even need to heal with touch but rather just people who were touched by his robe were healed or even a handkerchief he left behind was able to heal while Jesus had to be there and did it through touch only. So Paul healed people in his absence even so that sounds like a greater virtue. Also you made a separate comment about a Muslim giving commentary on the Bible but if I remember correctly you’re Protestant. Many Protestants give commentary that is different than the original church denominations so why can a Protestant give exegesis but not a Muslim when both do not have an exegesis history that spans to the early church?
@@NoMan-pp1jq I’m Eastern Orthodox not Protestant. John 14:12-14 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. @@georgiacap9294 I talked to many Christians but you’re one of the few that actually read your Bible and use scripture so I appreciate that. According to that verse don’t you think it downgrades the miracles of Jesus though if others will be given greater miracles? And I concede the point on Bible commentary then. If you’re Orthodox/Catholic then it makes sense to seek the exegesis from the tradition.
@@NoMan-pp1jq The difference with the miracles Jesus performed and His disciples is that Jesus performed the miracles under His own authority whereas the disciples could only perform the miracles by calling on the name of Jesus, therefore He performs the miracles. Paul fought against sin, not men! His fight was heroic and he overcame! Now he is enjoying the reward of his master Jesus Christ the first born from the dead! Jesus defeated sin on the cross, breaking its power, raised up the third day by the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in Him! Made the way of salvation the forgiveness of sins and the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit for those who will believe in Christ! Paul gave his life for this salvation! Offering it to men far and wide, not with sword or spear, but by the simple word millions have taken it up! Millions today are still taking it up and finding rest in Jesus Christ.

Interesting a verse in Philippians supposedly pen by Paul is Phillipians 2v12
work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure
This is exactly what I believe. It is probably a generic statement beyond a specific faith even to the point of being one of the pillars of faith in Islam about doing good deeds and charity.

Gospel writers were all Pauline Christians is a very crucial point
I had studied the 7 authentic letters of Paul quite a bit, and then read the Gospels. I was shocked at how Pauline they were. Then I found a book that confirms Marks Gospel is ineed Pauline. Then I realized that the whole NT is Pauline, we have nothing from the disciples of Jesus and Paul admitted to lying so can we trust him when he says he met the apostles? Doubtful because he knows nothing about the life and teachings of Jesus. Odd way to preach about a god-man by not including anything he taught or did.

God bless you Paul and Dr Ali for your sincere efforts to illuminate us about the misinformation in Christianity and Judaism

3 seconds into the video and I noticed. MAJOR assumption by the Dr. He alleges that Paul never met Jesus but there is no proof of this.
If you're going to argue for this based on the fact that Paul doesn't explicitly mention that he met the earthly Jesus - then this is an argument from silence.
Moreover, even though Paul does not explicitly say that he met the earthly Jesus - he neither denied that he met the earthly Jesus.
So, our challenge to Dr. Ataie is to PROVE that Paul did not meet the earthly Jesus. Thank you.

This is an amazing example of how someone can reach the right conclusion for all the wrong reasons. Actually fascinating.

So a Hindu dying for his beliefs makes Hinduism true?
Yes. And regarding the earliest Islamic writings about Paul it says,
"One of the earliest exegeses is that of Muqātil b. Of course, historically, Paul had never physically met Jesus during the latter’s ministry; and although this story is common in Muslim exegeses, it is not found in Christian literature."
In the chronicle Tārīkh Dimishq by Ibn ʿAsākir (d.
The Messiah said, ‘How long will you harm Me and harm those with Me?'"
None of the above is Biblical since they all date from hundreds of years to a thousand years after Paul was martyred and yet none of the earliest muslim commentators said anything about Paul teaching or writing a different Gospel.
Islam always has been and always will be a false religion of Satan and therefore Satan still tries to persecute those who were martyred for the sake of Jesus Christ. No wonder such islamic lies continue through today!

The questions we should ask about Paul, the apostle, are many.
For a start, how did he go from being a Muslim to founding Christianity.
Was he not amongst the Apostles/Disciples who declared to Jesus(as) that they were Muslims.
If so, was he a true believer in Jesus or was he a hypocrite?

There deffinitly were “Jews”. The Romans called them Jews.
