Roy Rogers still the king. Best rider singer and a fair hand at yodeling. I'm 65 or 66 now and i grew up learning right from wrong, watching ALL Roy's movies.
According to various things written from people who should know, Roy Rogers was a real horseman. Many who worked with both Gene Autry and Roy Rogers said that Roy knew how to mount, ride and control a horse perfectly, while they had to edit around Autry a lot because he wasn't very good. Also, reportedly, Autry drank a lot and was often a bit wobbly in the saddle, while Roy wasn't a drinker and was a solid guy all the way.
Not really an Autry fan, from an adult perspective, he seems creepy now. Guess I'm a heretic lol. do love Roy though -- superb musician, along with everything else!
The only person that comes close to Roy,is his son Roy Jr. A.K.A. " Dusty" Rogers, & he wrote a tribute song/ video to his dad ,The King of the Cowboys! It is the finest tribute anybody could have written about Roy; I have had the privilege of meeting Dusty & the Son's of the Pioneers, & Dusty is the kindest,humblest,honest,most decent real man I have ever met; The current Son's of the Pioneers are the best of any Western music Band still playing ; Ranger Doug & the Riders of the Sky are equally the best, & I have had the privilege of meeting all of them & I have one of Too Slims Cactie! The morals & musical values these men play & set an example by are what is lacking in our society today! I hate it when our young people are going to concerts of " Rap" & heavy metal & others that set bad examples for our young people; as an example, a pop music Icon, that a lot of young people followed & " loved" his music! The Icon died & the autopsy results came back that he died of a drug overdose. The city that the Icon lived in,named a street after him....????? He's no hero of mine! Our younger generations need better " heroes " if we wonder why so many of our young people are dying of drug overdoses?? Look at their idols,their musical heroes, the videos they watch...Our young people do not need to be attending concerts or buying music c.d.'s or downloading music of musicians that are drug addicts or " glorify drugs of any kind!" I have been told that I am " old school"; because I didn't approve of kids going to a Willie Nelson concert...Willie is a well known Marijuana smoker,& sorry guys,I can't & won't spend my money on a drug addict! If we want our kids to be better Americans then we must set the example,just like my heroes of yesterday, Roy Rogers and Gene Autry! ... " HAPPY TRAILS"!
Roy`s days on tv were classic.I wish i was growing up in his heyday.alas I`m too young,Roy has/had a classic voice and his yodeling was the best.i you live in the toronto,or listen to q107 on the web you know they murder his signature songm,one reason i don`t like the q.we need more of Roy today.
