They was missing notes and not playing the phrase throughly. Attacks was off, some was slurring, some was tonguing which made it extremely muddy

Everyone trying to overblow each other, then it’s no balance in the high brass especially the trumpets when it comes to the split parts. Not everyone can handle the first part nor need to be on the first part, especially if you can’t play the phrase all the way through. Both of them was trying to be louder than each other which means you will lose intonation, balance and blend. Fundamentals still is needed in mass bands.
