How about hire the best and get the best.

Why isn’t their more diversity in basketball, football or hockey, or in the fields of iron workers & masons, or the contracting field where strenuous labor is required. How about in the nursing, caregiving field or in hospitality? If the news keeps clamoring for spots to be filled, look at statistics or how businesses operate, it’s not hard to derive a particular field and who fills those skill sets. They base it on the ability of each individual and if they meet the corporate bottom line in the labor hours it takes to accomplish a desired goal, because in reality that’s how the real world operates.

@@aerialcombat Explain further, please? I’ve traveled the world, spent years in the military, among a diverse group, also in the engineering/contracting world for 17 years. I’ve witness skill sets sometimes being misplaced based on diversity in real situations because of societal/political ideas fail because of regulation. I think sometimes pushing such ideological roles can pressure individuals to overstep their boundaries and some unintentional harm can be introduced and unfortunately it’s at the behest of the corporate bottom line.

The Seattle Fire Department is 93% male and 7% female.
There are 9 Deputy Chiefs and 4 of the DCs are Female,
THEREFORE-women make up 44% of the Deputy Chief rank although they only account for 7% of the Seattle Fire Department.
I wonder how that was accomplished? Do they not utilize competitive written examination to select these Chief Officers?

I wonder exactly what kind of “policy changes” were made to testing and promotions to make it more equitable?

Blacks make up 6.8% of Seattle’s population and account for 6% of the Seattle Fire Department.
Asians make up 16.3% of Seattle’s population and account for 5% of the Seattle Fire Department.
I wonder how active the recruiting efforts are in the Asian community?

As a career firefighter. Diversity is great yes, but you cant just hire anyone off the street because they are black or trans... they need to do the job just as well as everyone else. If you hire someone just because of their sex or skin color and they don't perform up to our standards or mental fortitude, then you put the safety of the public and other firefighters at risk. ...

Haven't you seen training and standards constantly being lowered throughout the years? We have all seen it from requirements to testing standards for police placement, teachers associations, etc.... A focus on something like diversity automatically comes at the expense of merit.
