- The video shows the timelapse of patent application share across the world from 1980 to 2020. A patent is an exclusive right granted for an invention, which is a product or a process that provides, in general, a new way of doing something, or offers a new technical solution to a problem. To get a patent, technical information about the invention must be disclosed to the public in a patent application.

I like how everyone says "China steals intellectual properties" and conveniently forgets the fact that they also register almost half of all patents nowadays. Lol.
Most of all of those patents are Academic. Like with articles. It helps school rankings and gives promotions. Other countries do it, but not as much.

Welp, you dictate the patent laws and guess what...
The problems with videos like these is that it gives a very raw picture. It is like judging the book by its covers. The Chinese covers are the largest but that doesn't mean they contain the most information. It is the quality of these patents that matter not the quantity. It is very hard to measure which nation has the best quality patents but it is easy just to see real world examples. In the real world China is definitely not half the output

Yet if I give the teacher 10 suggestions to a problem and you give 1 but you fix the problem who is better? China has so many patents in AI and whatnot but if you just check what is the leading hardware, where are the most powerful supercomputers for AI, what companies invest the most in AI, what are the best softwares and things like that you will find that China has a lot of patents but not a lot going for them.

In America most patents are excellent hence why America simply dominates the field. From the most powerful AI drivers in the world to the best softwares America simply dominates the field of AI.
