Use hand tools. I used my hands to removed the speaker cone, etc first. Then a hack saw to remove the plastic pieces supporting the magnet. It's actually easier than a Rotozip or Dremel. I used flat nose pliers to break off the raised lip around outside of the bracket. Use the power tools to smooth any rough spots when you're done.
Yep but it's impossible to keep the stock foam when customizing the brackets because it's glued to the speaker cone which needs to come out. There are cheap replacements available online.
You went from crazy speaker to 💩 speaker I just UPGRADED mine the front doors only had speakers, and I installed speakers in the rear 6.5 four-way driven by a A/B high pass amp. and 2 6x9 four-way behind the headrest driven by a 2ch AB full range amp And 1. 15" sub driven by 1 monoBlock class Damp with a 7ban EQ & bass processor mine is al LS sedan but this was a cheap budget build I spent 250bucks on everything since I had much random supplies laying around But it sounds like a much much more expensive system 😂😂🤣🤣😂
This why it is smart to check the fit of any parts for your vehicle before purchase. That much modification shouldn’t be necessary, if getting the proper fit for the vehicle.
+George W I just bought from crutchfield for my sonic, they do not include the hardware or harnesses. 11$ for each bracket, 3$ for hardware, 5$ for the speaker harness. It does make it really easy though
Thanks for the information. I had bought another radio from them and was given all the hardware. Made it simple. I'm guessing not that way for speakers. Though I usually solder them on the terminals unless they have spring terminals.
Crutchfield is awesome, and their tech support is awesome. But I was looking at a lot of decks today as well, and none of them came with hardware. They all automatically put the hardware in the cart for me, and then charged me a "discounted" price for the hardware. Other places are usually a bit cheaper, but their support is the best.
Hey, there are only 2 screws one where you pull the door to close it and the other in the handle to open on the inside when you pull back the chrome handle you'll see a on the corner a little opening to pop it up. Then the whole thing pops off. The screws are 7 mm sockets. Email me if you need pics of where the screws are thumpersal@gmail.com
Thank you for sharing! Literally trying to upgrade my rear speakers in my 2018 Chevy Equinox and I was surprised to find the factory speaker glued to the mounting compartment! Was trying to figure out how to order a mounting shell until I saw your video! I’m disappointed I will have to solder the wires...not sure how to actually do that. How did you like those 4-ohm Kickers? I have the same exact model that I’m trying to upgrade to!
Hey man, do your back door speakers sound any louder after the modification, because when i fade all the sound to rear speakers they are not closely as loud as the front ones
Luis Marquez Most of the time your front door speakers in these types of vehicles are separated. They are component sets mid is separated from tweeter.....
The front speakers will sound louder when your sitting in the front, especially higher frequencies. Do you have the 6 speaker system with tweeters in the pillars? That will also enhance higher frequency & volume in the front.
It works very well. The Metra & Scosche speaker adapters available don't fit the Sonic correctly, nor does the Metra wiring harness adapter. Modifying the stock brackets guarantees a perfect fit, and allows for retaining the factory plug on the speaker wires if desired.
Just did this today to my kickers! Works great and was very simple to do!
What Watt of speakers did you go with?
That is the way do it. great job! Thanks for sharing.
Did you have the 'premium' sound package in your Sonic for the stock speakers?
Wish you mentioned how you cut it off. Or what tool you used. You don't mention how it sounds?
Guy Burroughs i agree this video doesnt show anything. I think i just wasted time....

you know you needed the foam to channel the sound into the car. keeps it from bouncing around under the door panel

That's awesome! Now i have to go pull these at upull, fab these and drop them in! Thanks for the vid!!!!!
Where can you get the doctor kit to do that if you want to cut the wires and stuff
I like how you did that
I guess my question is does it sound better and where did you buy the speakers?

My 4 door sonic sedan doesn't have speakers on the rear doors. Will I need brackets?
Just get some 1" MDF and trace a template
Yes, the speaker and bracket are one piece.
I recommend everyone that’s doing this to add the foam around the speaker and add sound deadening you’ll notice a huge difference

Unfortunately there’s no speaker that just fits right in with this silly GM mount
You could get speakers from crutchfield.com they include mounting hardware and wiring harnesses with their speakers.

Hay bro how did take off the door panel, ?

Wire crimps work too

If you get the 6.5 speakers it would fit better
What size is
The speakers are 6.5".
thanks a lot
Should have made a video doing it
Did it work
