I've tried various budget lighting options for detailing, like standard flashlights, construction jobsite lights, bar lights, headlamps, etc. The best I've found so far is the Harbor Freight "BRAUN 750 Lumen Rechargeable Ultra-Compact Magnetic LED Floodlight, Yellow - Item 59587" for $30. It puts out nice, round, Sun-like light and so far shows imperfections the most.
Saw you did the Ava go p45. Can you do a video on adapters that go into the outlet side of the pressure washer to use your own hose and gun? The unit is perfect for most people, however theres no direct information on how to swap it out and thats the big thing holding it back. I understand thats how things are in europe, but this is North America and is alienating a market that theyre trying to step into
Can I use my high CRI, different tint flashlights to inspect? They are quite high CRI and quite adjustable and I already have more than any person needs.
@deadshrub Best thing is to try each of them out. You'll probably see that some work great and others just spread the light too much. A single source light seems to work best when inspecting paint. I was tricked with the Husky lights as the surface looked good after my first try with a rotary. When I pulled My wife's truck out into the sun, the holograms that I left showed up like zebra stripes. That's when I decided to pick up the Harbor Freight Braun Inspection Light. For the price, it's the best value to get the job done. Like you, I had tons of different flashlights and pen lights. None of the ones that I had really seem to offer that single point perspective that highlights deeper paint imperfections like holograms and micromarring.
Thanks for the detailed and honest feedback Josh! We really appreciate it! This is what motivates us to keep improving and innovating 👍

High cri? U a photographer?
💡 🏆
👍👍
First!!!!!
High cri not being needed is not a hot take. It’s common sense
So many detailers are conditioned to think they have to use it…
