  • What batteries do discus launch gliders use? Single-cell lithium polymer batteries have been the go-to DLG battery for the past several years due to their simplicity and long run times.

    What batteries are you using for your DLGs?

      2s Turnigy cut open in half and then taped up again with kapton tape. Slightly frightening. 300mAh. That's what is recommended by VM for my Yoda.

      1S 500 to 1S 600 LiPo. Driven by the requirements of mobile phones, almost all "micro electronics" components are now *designed* to operate on 1S.

      I'm using a 1S 350ma Turnigy in my Deviant. I don't believe the ArmSoar batteries were available at the time. I only bought 1 battery to make sure it would fit and balance thinking I'd buy more if it was the right fit. Turns out I can fly well over an hour per session on that single battery. I'll be getting a pack of the ArmSoar ones when I get the needed accessories for my Bamf 2 that's on order :)

      @@CyclingMikey It's interesting VM is recommending that, I'll need to try the X06's on my DLGs on 2S and see what the difference is.

    Stupid question maybe: I am used to plugging the battery into the ESC and the ESC into the receiver. Obviously, a glider does not need an ESC. I understand that I need a 1S Lipo to power the receiver and the servos. However, where/how on the receiver do I plug the battery? Do the 1S batteries come with a plug for the three pins in the receiver?

    I've yet to receive my Elf DLG (you gotta start somewhere) but I've found that 150mah 1c 3.7v batteries from companies like swaytronic or eflite with a jst 1.25mm to a JR works pretty well, at least for my receiver (fs-ai6b).

    Hi Thomas. My name is Doug and thank you for your informative videos. I am a newbie to this sport and have not been successful yet in building a foam dlg from scratch...a little too heavy I think. I wonder which model you would recommend that is good for a beginner. I am looking for one that is forgiving in its flight chacterisics and is not too difficult to assemble. Thanks,Doug

    • @nehok
      @nehok 3 роки тому

      Hi Doug what is your current skill level? Do you allready fly traditional gliders like a Bixler say?

    • @ArmSoar
      @ArmSoar  3 роки тому

      Hi Doug,
      I’m happy to hear the videos are helpful!
      For a first DLG, just keep in mind you will most likely damage it and require repairs. A one meter DLG is my typical recommendation because they are much cheaper, there is less momentum so crashes are less damaging, and the short span means you won’t tip strike the wing, all of which means you’ll get more air time and a higher chance of success.
      Between the Deviant and Mini Dart 2, the Deviant is stiffer and higher performance. The MD 2 is cheaper which helps the wallet when learning, and the XPS foam core allows you to steam it back to mostly the original shape for easier repairs after crashes.
      Regardless of the Deviant or MD2, I would highly suggest going with four KST X06 servos. No other servo in this size range will give you the centering accuracy like the X06 to properly trim out the model. You’ll be able to reuse those in your next model as well if you damage the first one beyond repair.
      Hope that helps! If you have questions message us through our US store www.armsoarusa.com.

    Using 650 mah 1S removed from Vape sticks The size and shape of a AAA alkaline and weigh ~12 gms also have a built in BMS so just plug in any USB charger.
    Cheaper to buy complete Vape contraptions ~4$ each and remove the batteries :-)

    What FUTABA Rx are you using for 1S Lipo? R3004SB needs 4.8~7.4V in spec sheet. I don't know slim FUTABA Rx for 1S.

    • @Lopez_rc
      @Lopez_rc 4 місяці тому

      I use several Futaba receivers that work fine on 1S. It’s the servos that need a certain voltage to operate optimally.

    I have room for a lipo alarm, but 1s batteries don’t have a spare balance lead. Without telemetry receivers - how do you know when you’re running low on juice?

    • @ArmSoar
      @ArmSoar  3 роки тому

      Can't believe I didn't talk about this in the video... d'oh!!
      I have voltage telemetry set to 3.6v (many others use 3.7v).

    Why are these expensive KST servos? 50 bucks for one servo is madness.

    • @ArmSoar
      @ArmSoar  Місяць тому

      You absolutely need precise servos for DLGs due to their high performance aerodynamics. Everything must be not only precise, but repeatable. KSTs are great value servos for the performance offered.
