Omg I felt the same about Verity. I work in a bookstore and its shelved with her adult romances and I am not okay with that. Dramaporn is a great word for it. I felt like a lot of scences were just added for the shock factor. And yes, too much sex 😂😂
I love a good twist and shock but the way she did it just wasn’t polished! I’ll stick to thrillers written by actual thriller authors lol
the sarah j maas SWITCH UP absolute insanity love this for u
A true switch up!!! I couldnt even believe it
I get the Colleen Hoover obsession, when I started reading romance books years ago she was one of the first authors I read on the genre, i loved her books. Years later I cannot read those books again and think they are good, a lot booktok people just started reading so I get why they think her book are the most amazing thing. (granted i was 15 when i first read her haha)
I’ve noticed that a lot of people who love her books are younger. I know if I read them at 16 I would’ve been like this is literature.
I read it in my early thirties and it was my first book of the "thriller" genre. I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread!
😂😂😂 I'm laughing at your review for Verity. I tried 5 books of hers many years back (around the Ugly Love era) & her books never work for me 😶
They’re not it!!! Sorry coho
You suffered through 5 of them?! I feel bad for you! I only watch reviews of her books and even then I want to scrub my brain afterwards
You might like Rachel Vincent's Unbound series if you want more urban fantasy! I thought it was a really good trilogy with some loveable characters. The world building is very good too.
Ooh thanks for the recommendation! I’ve never heard of that series. I’ll add it to my tbr!!
Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series is great! There's a slow burn romance and every book has all different types of mythology sprinkled into it.
Oh yes someone else recommended Ilona Andrew’s too!
Would you also recommend the Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews? Crescent City left me craving a urban fantasy detective story and this series sounds like it could scratch that itch? But I'm unsure cause the blurb sounds like the later books follow a different character and it's not a detective series anymore?
@@wochenente6977 I've read them all!.Books 4-6 still have a mystery/adventure component but aren't as directly linked to the PI business in the first three books. You'll still see characters from the first three books in the next part of the series since the all the female POVs are sisters. I'm not sure if they are going to have another three books with the last sister!
Honestly all Ilona Andrews books have some sort of mystery in them, I guess it would just depend on how much romance you like if you'd like all of them! Hidden Legacy has a lot of romance in it, Kate Daniels has a slow burn that builds throughout the 10 books and isn't always a huge focus and Innkeeper Chronicles has romance but I wouldn't say it's super heavy.
Sorry if I nerded out a bit in this comment, I just got really into Ilona Andrews last year and have nearly read all of their books! I hope you like the books if you read them!
Completely agree with you about Verity. Think I generously gave it two stars 😅 Never read an SJM book, but I might have to get House of Earth and Blood after such rave reviews. 😁
House of Earth and Blood is so surprisingly good! I know I raved about it already for so long in the video but I cannot believe how much I enjoyed it.
Urban fantasy rec: the Dr. Greta Helsing trilogy by Vivian Shaw. (Maybe these are more urban paranormal/supernatural?) Main character is a doctor for supernatural beings, vampires, werewolves, mummies, demons, etc. First book is pretty good, second book is PHENOMENAL, just loved it, and third book is pretty dang good. Sooo I'd say try it and if you like the first book even a little bit read the second book, it's so funny!
I’ll definitely look into that! Sounds interesting!
Oh my god that's one of my favorite series and it's so underrated 😩 I'm almost done with the last book and I want more
Those are really good!
I don't really have an author I hate, mostly because I dnf books I'm not feeling so don't reach the "hate" part, I try to avoid those authors that weren't it for me and that's that but not a single name comes to mind🤔Yes to part 2 of this video!
One of my favourite urban fantasy series of all time is The Dresden Files. Xxx
Oh I’ve heard of that but never gave it a shot! I’ll look into it for my tbr 💗
Ahh! I totally agree with your Ruth Ware/Lucy Foley comments! I was in the same spot wondering if I should give The Paris Apartment a try but now I know to just walk away!!
Sometimes we just have to leave the mediocre British thriller authors to the other girlies
Im sorry but the crying clip hahahahah I was in my car asking you like why you crying like you were here haha
oh my god, i’ve watched you for a few months, going back over your things, what, i had no idea you were blonde. i’m severely lacking as a bestie.
😂 I've been a redhead for over a year so it just took you a while to get there. Now you will have a lot of blonde content because I was blonde my whole life before this
Loved this! it’s such a great idea 😊 and Your hair is fab! I would love another to see video like this.
Bestie wait the edward cullen sweatshirt has me cryingggg 🌈🍑😂😂
It’s too good!!!! 😂
I also felt like I didn't get Bunny and it ultimately put me in a reading slump... I'm glad All's Well was better tho!
Better but not best 😅 I’ll leave Miss Mona to the other readers 😂
Loved this video Sara!! And I'd definitely watch more videos like this one.
I just bought the audio book of Crescent City! :D YOU made me do it
Have fun! I love this book so much!!
So far I have read 2 SJM books and just can't seem to click with her... I haven't tried Crescent City yet though
If you like urban fantasy I’d really recommend it! It had a totally different vibe than her other stuff
@@sarawithoutanH I don't usually love urban fantasy 😂 I like it sometimes though
can someone spoil the twist in november 9 lol im never gonna read it but sara has intrigued me on what the twist could be to illicit that hatred from her
also i am gonna try to read verity out of curiosity hm
In November 9 the main character Fallon was burned in a house fire that ruined her acting career before the book starts and you find out towards the end that the love interest was the one who set her house on fire???? And he knew the whole time they were seeing each other that he was the one who had done it. Instead of getting a restraining order she gets back together with him lmao. Also what makes it even creepier is that she thought the day they met was by chance but he was actually seeking her out. So it was like premeditated and weird for them to meet
I feel like people that loved Verity are not thriller readers, so I couldn’t really fault anyone who really enjoyed it. I thought it was fun and fast but in the end I didn’t care either. As for Layla by Colleen Hoover, one of the worst books I’ve ever read. Absolutely hated it and ranted for days about it. Can’t imagine reading anymore of her books.
We will just have to leave CoHo to the tiktok girlies
I'm a bookseller, and I don't actively stop people from buying CoHoe, but if they ask, I do tell them to steer clear of Layla and November 9.
i saw ur taboo romance vlog and i love the way u talk abt things lol it's so cute so i subscribed 😚
As far as urban fantasy, have you read Only a Monster? It’s a debut by Vanessa Len and one of my favorites ever now
Also are you on booktok because I NEED to follow you
I do have a tiktok but I don’t post a lot! I think it’s @_sarawithoutanh. I’ve never really attempted any booktok content. Also I’ll add that book to my tbr!! ♥️
hell yeah to a part 2 👌🏼🔥💘
The yassification of SarawithoutanH- you literally died your hair to match Bryce for crescent city mmmkayyy we love to see it!!!
Also urban fantasy: mercy Thompson books, the others by Ann bishop, and the hidden legacy series by Ilona Andrews. These books were fucking CHEFS KISS!!!!
God verity was so fucking stooooppiiddddd haha, I literally thought the thriller aspect was so dumb!!?? I don’t think exotic thrillers are for me tbh. Lifetime movies are perrrrrrfectt at describing coho books lol
You know what’s funny is that I kept forgetting to picture Bryce with red hair 😂 I think pictured her with dark brown hair a lot
I was NOT expecting you to end this being a new SJM stan!!! We love to see it!!! 👏🏻
I contain multitudes apparently!!
For urban fantasy recs: The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin!
I’ve been meaning to read NK Jemison!
i watcged a video where people read november 9 (why not ninth??) and it was genuinely one of the shittiest books i have ever listenef to it eas so bad
I love you so much, been listening to your videos for a while. But at least for Sarah j Maas, I definitely recommend reading
Girl. It took me a hot second to recognize you in the thumbnail with the new hair 😂.
😂😂😂 I’m a new woman!
I also didn’t get Bunny. Did I miss something? Was it too deep for my dumb dumb brain to understand? Perhaps?? 😂😂 At least now I know to stay away from All’s Well too lol
We can leave Miss Mona to the intellectual girlies 😂
I still haven’t even finished throne of glass lol 😅
Probably for the best
Would love you hear your thoughts on Crescent City 2 … I feel the same as you about her other books but loved the first one and HATED the second (which is so sad) so would love to see u read it xx
I’m a little nervous about the second book! A lot of people have mixed feelings
Some of my favorite book tubers read Bunny and loved it. It’s not usually my type of book but I was interested in something new so I tried it. I hate that book. It’s just fight club but with worse writing and stupid magic cult sorority shit thrown in. Like am I missing something?? It wasn’t deep, it wasn’t a new unheard of idea, there were gaps in the story that just didn’t make sense, even for an unreliable narrator. The mc was also freaking annoying, I liked the bunnies more and that’s saying something
OK, so we almost match. I can't abide your new found love for SJM. 😏 As someone who primarily reads urban fantasy I can say that her adult UF is not any better than her YA books. However, if you've not read much urban fantasy I can see where you could have gone wrong. So let me point you to some good authors in the genre. 😉 And they do it in half the pages...pst...because they're much better writers. Ilona Andrews-all their things (you're welcome), Patricia Briggs-(Mercy Thompson and Alpha and Omega-I prefer the second but both are good), Hailey Edwards-(Black Hat Agency, Potentate of Atlanta, Necromancer series-Potenate is the superior one, but read Necromancer too to get the full impact), Lindsay Buroker-(Death Before Dragons and she has a spin off that's excellent too), C.P. Rider-(Sundance series), Annette Marie-(she's another one where you should read all the things), Lisa Shearin (SPI Files and Raine Barnes series), Anne Bishop (The Others). These are but a few. For the love of good books everywhere, please. 😭Please put the SJM down. I know she's the popular girl. But popular and good are 2 different things. 😂 Said all in good fun, of course.
🎃
The world building in Crescent City is absolutely tremendous.
Miss sarah really did that!!!!
I am shocked and saddened to have the exact opposite opinion than you on CoHo and SJM lol
lol I guess I haven’t mentioned coho since 2016 but she’s never been my thing
What about like… reading more from authors you love??? That could be fun
Omg noooooo not me influencing you reading a Colleen Hoover 🤦🏻♀️🫠 I’m hiding behind my hands in anticipation of this video
Oh yeah Verity is so effed up. I loved it cause Colleen was clearly UNHINGED when she wrote that, haha
Relating Ruth Ware to Lucy Foley is so accurate. It’s just for two different age brackets
i think miss colleen went off the rails even more than usual lmao
I saw the preview and was so scared you hated The Guest List :D I loved it so desperately, but I HATE The Paris Apartment. Verity was also oof. I’m glad you liked the crescent city one, i slogged through acotar and I never wanna think about sjm again lol.
