    wow... he had been continually non-detectable whilst on treatment... and then when he came off treatment the virus thrived in his body and became detectable again. Who could have imagined such an outcome?

      +Jason Armstrong ... WTF is wrong with people. I just finished chemo for Hodgkin's and if I had gone with "alternative" cures/medicine I would probably be close to dead now. I was already feeling the cancer begin to make me ridiculously exhausted 6 months ago. There are things that work these days because scientists have been working on them for decades tirelessly. Will it get better in the future? Absolutely. But going with something "alternative" for something like cancer or HIV is insane.

      +Jason Armstrong Won't be that quick, but HIV is ravishing the US south and generally by the time some people there figure out what is wrong with them and figure out access to treatment, that treatment is useless. Southern black women are in this category. This is bad because if you do take the modern treatment in time, you can live almost as long as everybody else, but the south is rather indifferent to people with the disease in their communities.
      Another screwed up thing is some of the best meds are for treatment naive patients and once they become resistant, then the next regimens aren't as convenient. So Charlie is probably screwing himself out of just taking 1 pill per day of say Stribild to keep his numbers down, and now will be taking some crazy regimen with all sorts of odd drug interactions with common drugs like Flonase or Simvastatin, &c.

      depends on how strong his immune system is. HIV doesn't kill you directly, but rather by secondary infections from other pathogens.

    The fact that he said " I was born dead" shows he must be so depressed, maybe suicidal. He gave up. When some people are diagnosed with an incurable disease, rightfully, depression may occur. Some start acting/ making irrational decisions but Thankfully some people fight it by staying on medication. But his behavior was havoc long ago. Nevertheless I hope he comes to his senses and save himself. With all his resources he can do so much. What a shame wasting his life away.

      alternative medicine is a large encompassing term. if it isn't standard medical drugs/procedures then it is pretty much alternative medicine. I would say colloidal silver is alternative medicine yet is the most potent anti microbial product known to man. That's why it was used in the recent ebola in the USA and is used to disinfect hospitals that get overrun by resistant microbs and would otherwise need to be shut down. Look up results rna and their products acs silver and steriplex.

    You know what alternative medicine that works is called? Medicine.

    • @UCreations
      @UCreations 8 років тому

      +billybob jenkins It really depends on the kind of medicine. Some herbs really help because substances in them are also used for "chemical" medicines. But... acupuncture, homeopathy, etc work in some cases because of the placebo-effect (which is proven to be real), but has nothing to do with medicine.

    • @anonymousscience4095
      @anonymousscience4095 8 років тому

      +UCreations Science-based medicine has natural and man-made medicines. Alternative medicine does as well. Acupuncture is completely unnatural (is not found in nature), but is an alternative medicine. Neti pot was alternative medicine until tested and shown to work. Now it is not alternative medicine. Now it is science-based/western/conventional medicine.
      Real acupuncture (needles into the meridian points in order to manipulate chi flow) has never worked. I use the term "real", because the definition is so broad, that people tend to call even the use of a TENS unit (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator), needles with electricity going through them, as acupuncture, and the last I checked Chinese acupuncturists didn't have electricity.
      Homeopathic "medicine" (another term that is used so broadly as to lose any meaning unless we qualify the term specifically), that is remedies create using Hahnemann's "law" of similars and "law" of infinitesimals , can be proven with grade 10 science and maths to be mathematically impossible to work.
      It is a common misconception that placebo is mind-over-matter. The placebo-effect has never cured anybody. It has subjective improvements. It doesn't limit any disease (with the exception of blood pressure related illnesses, but for the sake of simplicity, I am going to ignore this). A placebo will lower pain, it will lessen nausea, but it isn't going to get the germs out of your body faster or make you more likely to survive an illness (there are some very rare exceptions to this, but rare enough that they are not applicable in the overwhelming majority of cases).
      In fact, in a placebo controlled clinical trial, you ideally have at least 3 groups. The active group getting the actual medicine. The control group getting nothing. And the placebo group receiving a fake medicine. If the active group preforms better than placebo, we know it works. If it preforms equal to or less than placebo, we know it doesn't work, or the effect is too small to measure so is practically useless. We don't go and declare the medicine is fit for use if it matches placebo.
      Every medical journal worth its salt states that giving a placebo for any reason other than a clinical trial is in fact unethical. If you give someone a placebo, they have less subjective symptoms. This means they take longer to go to the doctor, which means they are more likely to die because the disease will have progressed further by the time they get treatment.

      Damon White
      Thanks for this great reply. We don't disagree (I think), but you're definitely more into this than I am. I have a physics background (definitely no medical) and I know about the placebo effect, that it has an effect on many things that are mind/stress related (and mass hysteria...), but of course a placebo or homeopathy or acupuncture won't cure any real disease.

    We love Charlie Sheen because he marches to a different drummer. The only response to his decision should be supportive. The stigma and negative stereo types that still exist around this disease is disheartening. We don't have the right to judge his personal decisions. Fame doesn't not give the public that right. To demand that right is selfish and self serving of the immature. (let me just name drop Steve Jobs) People with a diagnosis of a terminal disease come face to face with their own mortality. Right or wrong they must live and die with their choices.

      +Nathan McWilliams I agree with you but I believe that the ones that work are being researched now. In fact, western medicine contain plant based elements, too. Also, i think that natural medicines are excellent for curing simple stuff. For complex diseases like the HIV, they will work, too, but it probably involves using different plants just like western medicine. This means that research will have to be done for that. I'm not gonna trust a guy telling me that his drugs work when he's not even licensed. If he's that smart, he could get the drugs tested and then mass produce them and make loads of money!

    Charlie Sheen has an astounding lack of 'joie de vivre' by replacing all the fun memories we ever had of him in Hot Shots from our collective minds with this latest 'dear diary' update - that nobody asked for I might add.

    If alternative medicine worked, actually worked, it would just be "medicine."
