Melbourne ... My Town!!! Brighton Beach ... My Beach!! Ackland Street ... best place to eat!! The Brighton Beach "huts" are called Beach Boxes ... they are used by the owners to store their beach equipment ... To buy they cost over a million dollars ... but RARELY come on to the market!!
Nice video! I grew up in St. Kilda during the late-70s and early-80s and it was a totally different place back then, notorious for its drugs and prostitution and a cheap, rundown area to live, which is why it attracted so many musicians and writers, artists etc. back then. But by the early-90s the redevelopment began in earnest and, as you pointed out, it's mostly a home for wealthy people now (though I still live in St. Kilda but further in). The cake shops down Acland St. have long been famous for their sweets and pastries! Before COVID, St. Kilda was a big destination for English and Irish backpackers and working travellers, which no doubt helps partly account for the proliferation of Irish pubs in the area.
May I suggest... travel down the Mornington Peninsula, get the car ferry to Queenscliff on Bellarine Peninsula. Explore north then south side of Bellarine, head to Barwon Heads, through to Torquay, then do the Great Ocean Road, all the way through to Warrnambool. Hit Koroit (where I was born :) ) on the north slopes of Tower Hill. This area, through to Port Fairy (where I lived as a kid) was settled by the Irish. Koroit has an annual Irish Festival. Port Fairy is a surfbeach and fishing village. It was originally a whaling town named Belfast. The trip along the southern coastline is gorgeous.
If surfing's your thing, from Melbourne CBD you've a couple of hours drive to either side of the bay to get to a surf beach, unlike in Sydney where they're close by, but if you just want to have a bit of a paddle or swim Melbourne's bay beaches are much safer. The water quality does get better the further south you go away from the CBD ( particularly after recent rainfall) but often It's fine to swim at St. Kilda, which is about twenty minutes away by tram. My favourite Melbourne beach is Black Rock which is about fifty minutes away by train. It's best to leave the car at home or the hotel, particularly on the weekends when the weather is good.

Welcome to Melbourne. Bayside is the best part of Melbourne. My wife and her friends walk on this path most days. Enjoy! I followed your adventures in NZ, you will find Aus quite different from NZ. The Polynesian culture of NZ is unique
Oh guys, I have been following you and now you are in my neck of the woods... you drove right past my street down near Brighton Bathing Boxes and Red Bluff.... how cool is that! Enjoy our country guys!

Another great video guys. I haven't been down there for a while so it was great to see your video. Having lunch on the beach. That's new and reminds me of Bali. I'll have to head down there again soon. Like you choice of locations. Keep having fun! 😊
Am enjoying watching your days here! Suggest you go to Phillip Island & see the little penguins. It has great beaches. My dad loved it as it reminded him of the Donegal coastline where he was born
Guys, I keep seeing your radio showing SEC, this is doing my head in, the code to unlock the radio is the last three number of the car's VIN number, this is on the sticker on the driver door pillar, or on the Rego papers. Steps below to fix this. 1. Turn the ignition on to the accessories position. 2. Hold the TUNE ^ button and the 1 button at the same time until three lines appear. 3. Using the 1 button, press until the first digit of the code appears, using the 2 button press until the second digit of the code appears, using the 3 button press until the third digit of the code appears. 4. Hold the SCAN button until SEC appears on the display and disappears. The audio system is now enabled.
Enjoyed your reactions guys! If you are still here you should check out the Great Ocean Rd! A couple of hours from Melbourne but the coastline & the Ocean views are amongst the best in the world. One of my very favourite parts of Victoria.
I love your videos. I'm from Melbourne and lived a year in Ireland, mainly in Belast Dublin and New Ross. Anyway I've just got to set you straight that all the people on St Kilda beach on a Monday and every day are back packers. Lots of Irish. Germans, Brits and Sandi's. Let's party. That's the scene.
These beaches are bay beaches, just the same as the beaches within Sydney Harbour. The "beaches" people refer to about Sydney are "ocean" beaches which you will find on the coast outside Melbourne and suburbs. Just as in Sydney the protected bay beaches provide safe swimming and cooling off for many locals
Come to the Dandenong Ranges on the outer edge of Melbourne. Ride the Puffing Billy Steam Train through the rain forest. You will Love It 🙏💜🙏 It is an unforgettable experience.
Hi Glen and Mado. I’ve noticed your radio is offline (SEC). Try entering the PIN ‘320 SCAN’ to get it back online. … If that doesn’t work, the PIN should be in the manual, or you can call Toyota with your VIN.

Go over the Westgate bridge and visit Williamstown, Melbourne's oldest suburb, once a port and industrial suburb, now residential, has a beautifull botanic garden near it's swimming beach
Hi guys, I live in St Kilda overlooking the beach where you had coffee, my balcony is in this video. It's not as expensive as you might think, my two bedroom 6th story apartment with uninterupted beach views is worth about $750,000. Brighton on the other hand is crazy expensive. Parking hint: Download the Easy Park app, you only pay for the time your there down to the minute.
You have to remember that Melbourne's beaches are on a bay, not on the ocean. And gods - those parking fees! :O OORC that roller coaster is the oldest operational roller coaster in Australia. Somoene will correct me if I'm wrong. 🙂 If you're going to Tassie, Melbourne's the place to leave from on the car ferry.
@@kayelle8005 The ferry now leaves from Geelong. It no longer leaves from Port Melbourne. It takes you to the north coast of Tasmania in the town of Devonport.
Because Victoria is on a bay, there are many lovely beaches around the coastline. 90 mile beach, Phillip Island (see the penguin parade), Torquay (The Great Ocean Road and the Otway Ranges), Lorne, The 12 Apostles. See Gippsland - The Strzelecki Ranges are stunning. There's so much to see in Victoria!
St Kilda Pier where you were ( you missed walking along it) has wild Little Penguins, you can see the chick's under the rocks for free and see the parents coming in at night to feed them.
Glen & Mado you are only doing the tourist beaches and stuff in around Melbourne there are many more beautiful spots within a 100km drive of the CBD. Those houses on the beach front are all noisy you need to see the world class golf courses and homes which have direct line of sight across the Bass Straight ocean and Port Phillip bay and the CBD all in one home, with views from every room not just balconies. 😂❤ enjoy yourselves, but you have seen nothing yet.. !! .. ❤
Whilst Melbourne isn't known as a classic beach city and you wouldn't travel from the other side of the world just for Melbourne beaches there are some great suburban beaches in the metro area. Red Bluff beach just to the right of where you were (straddles Black Rock North and Sandringham) is one of the best beaches in Melbourne for me. Water is usually very clean and can get some nice afternoon waves too on occasions. Rarely crowded as well.
Checklist, go to every beach in Australia, one done......Fun fact, there are so many beach around, given there are 10,685 beaches, and one beach per day, it would take you more than 32 years to see them all. Wonder if they give out visiting visas for that :P
St Kilda was a bit of a sleazy area at one time, it had a bad reputation for drugs and prostitution, lots of kerb crawling, the local council and residents decided to clean the place up hence the amount of one way streets and dead ends along with legalising prostitution. Mornington Peninsula is a great place to visit, Arthur’s seat has great views of the bay and once down to Sorrento you get the option of the bay beach on the North side and the surf beach on the south, Bass Straight. Victoria has lots of great places to visit, from coastline to mountains, it is worth doing a road trip heading East, head south to Phillip Island then follow the coast towards Sale, then onto Bairnsdale and start heading north to Omeo on the Omeo highway, once in Omeo head towards Mt Hotham and into Bright. From Bright you head towards Wangaratta, then you have the option of heading directly back to Melbourne on the Hume Highway or head down towards lake Eildon and head to Melbourne Via either the Melba hwy to Lilydale, Alexandra and the Black spur to Healesville and the Healesville animal sanctuary, or if you are feeling adventurous head to Mansfield and down through Jameson to woods point and then to either Noojee or head back west towards Warburton, it is adventurous because it is all dirt roads, the roads are good but the travel is slow and the scenery is great with lots of good free camping along the way. Enjoy your time in Victoria, it has a lot to offer. 👍👍👍👍
Most locals dont go to StKilda beach - the majority of people there are tourists, or folks on working visas, or people new to the country. The beach is not the cleanest water. We usually go from Mentone, through to the Mornington Peninsula for lovely clean beaches and sand. 😊 With the Bathing Boxes, you must be a local resident of the suburb to buy one. You cant connect water or electricity to them, so people use them as a sun shelter to sit with family and friends when they enjoy the beach. The prices vary quite a bit but are generally upwards of $400k AUD and the owners are required to maintain the exterior as they are a tourist attraction. Many people take wedding photos in front of them😊
There's tons of stingrays along the beach there and further south. Grey ish rays they swim between groups of people and all. It's like everyone gets along lol people don't realise they are there. I snorkled with them some were sleeping. This is in like 4ft deep water. I use to live near there. Glad your enjoying our country legends. East or West Coast is place to be 👍 Feel that fake sand on Melbourne's beaches lol it sucks
St kilda is a hole lol and a tourist trap. If you want crystal clear water and clean sand with FREE parking, you go down the Bellarine peninsula around indented heads, Queenscliff and point Lonsdale. Much slower, chill and laid back.
A tip for visitors: the quality and cleanliness of Melbourne's beaches improves significantly from Mordialloc on down the Mornington Peninsula. There's dozens of awesome beaches only an hour south of the city, ie Sorrento, Rosebud, Rye, Gunnamatta, Point Leo, Mount Martha, Mother's Beach, Safety Beach, Shelley Beach, Bushrangers Bay, Cairns Bay, Balnarring, Royal Beach, Number 16 Beach, Capel Sound, Flinders, Blairgowrie, Somers, Dromana, Merricks, Flinders, Portsea... The ones on the southern tip of the Peninsula (ie Gunnamatta) are all surf beaches. Then further East along the coast there's more surf beaches like Woolamai, Kilcunda and Inverloch.
We made so many, at least 100+ lol. anyways not sure yet its on the agenda anytime soon as we have so much planned for the next few years! we seen basically all off New Zealand
@@GlenAndMadook when you come just don’t go to same spots everyone goes too like Katoomba etc keep driving to Lithgow etc you can stay at Lake Wallace at Wallerawang it’s free camping it has picnic areas with electric BBQ, the toilet block has hot showers. Five minute walk into town the Bakery has meals etc as well as great selection of cake etc then you need to go to Capertee Valley ( pronounced Kay-per-tee) just a short drive up the road it’s the second largest canyon in the world you can drive down into it and camp at Coorongooba camping ground you’ll be blown away by the views and the area, you just book on the NSW National Parks website $6 that’s all you pay you can stay the week or the weekend, the camp ground is great you have toilets and fire pits and picnic tables and the local kangaroo and wallabies come out every morning and afternoon and just chill out and eat the grass. take all your food & water as their is no shops. The old town of Glen Davis is great to have a look see and the old shale works. it’s just so beautiful it will take your breath away. There is a look out that is on top of the range before you head into the town of Capertee the view of the canyon you will see from the road as well.. you don’t have stay down there the drive it’s ltself is so worth it plus you get to see what most people in Australia don’t see as most don’t even know it exists..😊🇦🇺
You missed the best bit! You just needed to walk another 10 minutes further along that track, and there is a path down to Half Moon Bay, and you can walk around Red Bluff (then you can see why it is called Red Bluff) to the dog beach you were admiring. It's about 10 min drive to Rickett's Point, and there is a beautiful walk to Black Rock and to Mentone Beach, which is the best swimming beach in Melbourne.
God I hope you go down the coast further. Melbourne is my city, but it just simply does not have the best beaches, or anywhere near it compared to other parts of this great land. However, down the South coast the coastline is unbelievably beautiful. Please, I hope you check it out.
Every time Glen says “Mado” I hear “Madam”, and it’s like the most gallant thing ever
That's what I was hearing to begin with also.
Same! 😂
Yep, so do I.
I genuinely thought his pet name for her was Madam lolllll

Love Glen, everything is " VERY SPECIAL " and a SKYSCRAPER. 😂😂😂 when its average to us. This is such a great series 👏. ❤
Surely you have to do the Great Ocean road drive now you are in Melbourne!
The beaches get significantly better the further south you go towards the Mornington Peninsula :)
Also, St Kilda is extremely popular with European backpackers, especially Irish :)
I grew up in St Kilda from six to 21 when I got married. It's changed amazingly since I left there.
Still way better up north in other states....Mwhahahahahahhahahaa
Agreed. Seaford and tootgarook are / have beautiful beaches.
Ssshh,don’t tell people that.

Beautiful beaches in Tassie, unfortunately too cold for swimming.
A lot of hospitality workers live in St Kilda or nearby and Monday is their weekend, that's why there are a lot on the beach and it was a warm day.
Glen and Mado are both so charming and their enthusiasm for everything is wonderful , these are very watchable . Thanks
I grew up in Sydney but I like Melbourne more. Much easier to get around and fabulous shopping.
Don’t think so . Melb ppl are rude and the shopping is mediocre.. and the traffic is 24/7
I really love both of you because you always say something positive about every place you have been too . Just love your vlog !
haha we do our best to keep the postive vibes even though its very exhausting to always be on the go without a routine lol

Awesome video, it’s always nice seeing my home city from other perspectives.
Thanks so much, we’re glad you enjoyed it!

You have to remember that Melbourne's beaches are on a bay, not on the ocean. And gods - those parking fees! :O OORC that roller coaster is the oldest operational roller coaster in Australia. Somoene will correct me if I'm wrong. 🙂
If you're going to Tassie, Melbourne's the place to leave from on the car ferry.
The oldest wooden rollercoaster in the Southern Hemisphere
@@pandasandrock And .,.. guess thats a beach for you......
The name of the place is Luna Park. There’s also one in Sydney.
I’m petty sure you can now only get the ferry to Hobart from Geelong
@@kayelle8005 The ferry now leaves from Geelong. It no longer leaves from Port Melbourne. It takes you to the north coast of Tasmania in the town of Devonport.
You may know that the Dendy Beach Pavilion was only finished a few months ago
You haven't seen the beaches past Mornington, Sorrento , Phillip Island and down to Cape Schanck
Hi guys. Gold Coast has the best beaches.
I saw somewhere that if you visited a different beach every day in Australia, it would take you over 30 years.
St Kilda Pier where you were ( you missed walking along it) has wild Little Penguins, you can see the chick's under the rocks for free and see the parents coming in at night to feed them.
you are showcasing victoria very well..we should nominate you to the tourist board
I wish I wish lol we do our best to take it all in :)
To need to visit Portsea & Sorrento
Ocean beach ,all Mornington peninsula
Well thats as a new one on me Glen, Ive never hard bluff pronounced bloof before..lol!
Frankston has one of the nicest beaches in Oz
Thanks for sharing this, we'll have to check it out next time we're there!
Come to Perth, best beaches and free parking. 😊
Most locals dont go to StKilda beach - the majority of people there are tourists, or folks on working visas, or people new to the country. The beach is not the cleanest water.
We usually go from Mentone, through to the Mornington Peninsula for lovely clean beaches and sand. 😊
With the Bathing Boxes, you must be a local resident of the suburb to buy one. You cant connect water or electricity to them, so people use them as a sun shelter to sit with family and friends when they enjoy the beach. The prices vary quite a bit but are generally upwards of $400k AUD and the owners are required to maintain the exterior as they are a tourist attraction. Many people take wedding photos in front of them😊
I LOVE YOU BOTH - From Melbourne
Love you too! hope your having a wonderful day :)
The way my jaw dropped when glen went topless lmfao. Bro is jacked 😅
Make sure you visit some wineries. The landscape is majestic
My Irish mother loved Saint Kilda and Geelong because they reminded her of Dunlaoghaire.
Thats insane! and when you really think about it they both are very similar :) we love Dunlaoghaire, we always head out when were back home.
Port Phillip Bay beaches are underrated. They are some of the best and safest for swimming.
East or West Coast is place to be 👍
Feel that fake sand on Melbourne's beaches lol it sucks
Yea fake sand lol
St kilda is a hole lol and a tourist trap. If you want crystal clear water and clean sand with FREE parking, you go down the Bellarine peninsula around indented heads, Queenscliff and point Lonsdale. Much slower, chill and laid back.
Agree
Parking fines in Melbourne, Australia range from $99-$198 for the 2024-2025 financial year.
The perfect incentive for ppl to use the public transport system. ka-ching! Watch ya fingers.
Glen and Mado, welcome to Mel Burn .... not Bourne ( I know it's spelt that way) . Drives us nuts! Enjoy your time guys
It's not Mel Burn either - it's Melbn.
It's beautiful down here
Nah, to dangerous for me. I do my swimming at the Harold Holt Swim Centre in Glen Iris
I here the swimming at Sunnyside beach mt Eliza area is nice this year 🤫
@markward573 hahaha
So glad you made it sorry I missed you.
I'm also miss you Diana I'm Bablu from India
@ ok?
no, we agree, car park prices are excessive.
A scene from Mad Max 1 (1979) was filmed at Red Bluff.

I loved the new Zealand videos. When will you go back ?
We made so many, at least 100+ lol. anyways not sure yet its on the agenda anytime soon as we have so much planned for the next few years! we seen basically all off New Zealand
I hope you guys aren’t go to miss it on the Blue Mountains😊
Haha that's our next destination!
You used to be able to park several streets away and walk down to the Brighton beach and it was free.
Maybe you still are but we never looked lol
There are around 10,685 beaches in Australia. Fun fact. Seeing one a week would take 205 years to see them all.
God I hope you go down the coast further. Melbourne is my city, but it just simply does not have the best beaches, or anywhere near it compared to other parts of this great land. However, down the South coast the coastline is unbelievably beautiful. Please, I hope you check it out.
