I have a 2021 Slim and I absolutely love it. I can't stop smiling as I ride it. Only change I would make is the seat. The seat, albeit very good looking,is a little firm and kind of slippery. Some talk about the exhaust sound being a little quiet, but I am convinced people complaining about this ride around at 1900rpm and possibly lug the engine. If you ride it above 2800 rpm, you get plenty of good engine notes.

    • @russmode

Plenty of great exhaust upgrades available, I think most get into, especially with it being geared towards customization.

1900rpm is pretty comfortable for these M8's. At least on my Softail Standard, which may have different gearing than the Slim, 1900rpm in 6th gear is 51ish mph and it's not lugging. She doesn't like anything below 1800rpm while in 6th and my rule of thumb is I'll never use 6th below 50 anyway.
But you'll know when the engine is lugging.... it will make godawful rattling noises and the bike will buck like a pissed off horse.

I almost bought a Slim several times! I just had to have the 114, but the Slim doesn’t come in 114. I love the Slim S with the 110 Screaming Eagle. I went with the FXFBS FAT BOB 114. I love it. It’s a bad ass bike! But I like the classic retro look of the Slim more! Is your Slim pretty responsive? An you get from 0 to 60 pretty quickly?

Really? That makes no sense as the slim scrapes making a right hand turn at a stop sign, it is slow and low and don't handle for shite. Nah man, for me, I bought a 1290 Super Duke. Upright, more relaxed seating position, V-Twin torque, but with actual horsepower to move you like the wind.

There's a lot of haters in the comments. I bought a FXDWG in 05 with 100rwhp. It is the most comfortable bike I've ever ridden. Since then I've had a Buell Blast, a Buell XB9R and a loaded road glide. I guess I never rode a motorcycle I didn't like, from a 55 Harley hummer to a CL90 Honda to MXers and a Gold Wing. I still have the Wide Glide, but I just bought a Kawasaki Versys 300X and the Harley is for sale. Oh yeah, I'm 74 these days, so the heavy Harley's are no longer my forte. What these wankers don't understand is that there are bikes for thrill and there are bikes for satisfaction. A H-D is for satisfaction. Balls? Those bikes push very hard right from the bottom of the rpm band. A bike with "balls" just pushes as hard when it is close to the red line. What a joke. And yes, they're comfortable, but adding a proper handlebar, proper grips and seat, an H-D is unbeatable in comfort. Yes, because these wankers can swap their handlebars in their bikes with "balls"... All I see is wankers that are not happy with their bikes with "balls", so they get in a bitchy need to criticize to fullfil they're unhappiness...

German and Italian workers don’t come cheap either, but they are putting out better motorcycles that cost less. Modern materials and components don’t come cheaper either, but everyone uses them on premium prices motorcycles except Harley Davidson.
Harley Davidson has been cutting costs while raising prices. They closed factories and laid people off, but did prices drop? No. The quality of the Street series of motorcycles is a direct reflection on Harley Davidson. They would much rather sell an inferior motorcycle for big profits than a good one to everyone at smaller margins.
You do not get what you pay for with a Harley Davidson. You don’t get quality components, modern materials or engineering. The $12k Roadster doesn’t even have a fuel gage.
Harley Davidson’s could be good motorcycles, but the buyer has to buy an unfinished motorcycle with cheap components throw away the poor quality parts and replace them with better parts at your cost. You can’t buy a Harley that’s already fixed.

For the Germans it's high tech above all else and I would know my first Street bike was a BMW, for the Italians it's mainly performance you're paying for with the exception of guzzi. With Harley it's style, longevity and comfort. It all costs comparably different companies just prioritize different things to make a profit. The market is leaning more toward the German and Italian philosophy of high tech high performance bikes due to the way we are conditioned in the market. It used to be with some tools and gusto you could pass your bike down to your kids. But these modern bikes aren't designed to be around forever. They're designed to be ridden for 30-50k miles then be discarded. Perfect example from Harley is the live wire super top of the line E- bike compared to let's say a sportster. I could keep that sportster for 30+ years with the proper care and access to parts. Not so much with the fancy E-bike where the battery itself takes up the bulk of the cost. I don't see many old ducatis on the road these days and if you do they've practically never been ridden. But I see plenty of old pan and shovel heads and even the occasional knuckle head. That's the advantage of older tech and an all steel construction. It's just not what most young buyers want these days but to people like me who don't wanna blow 15k on a new bike every 5-6 years there's still a market for these old school harleys

Uhhhhhh, 73.6 horsepower and 99 pound feet of torque is not relatively modest. It is pathetic. I have a 2014 Victory 106 that produced more than that from the factory 7 years ago. I'm fairly sure that there are a number of V twins out there that do much better and in many cases for far less money. I started saying it in 1971 and Willy G said the same thing publicly, "Harley Davidson does not sell motorcycles. Harley Davidson sells a life style." Unfortunately HD's lifestyle has become antiquated, outdated, bloated and beyond the means of the very people that made their name for them, the working man.
The new CEO of HD has a plan to save the company. Restrict (more like stop) all R&D, restrict (more like stop) the making of new models, and lower and limit production numbers to create an artificial scarcity to drive the price up even further without improving a damn thing about the product. Some plan. Sooner or later people are going to tire from the lack of improvement and the big buck pricing and start looking somewhere else. It's sad but true that the biggest motivator to improve the product is the Federal Government with new regulations. I will be surprised if Harley lasts much longer than 10 more years with their refusal to get with the world's program to limit or stop the use of oil. It's only a matter of time before overseas legislation excludes the sale of HD products in their countries due to the fact that the product does not meet their rules. And with the present price, the Livewire is just not going to cut it.

People have no concept of power. They just hear it on a spec sheet and think the bigger the better.
The reason the HD peak torque figures are higher than most and surely higher at lower rpms is that they make more power at lower rpms than most bikes. That means they get going quick at reasonable street speeds. Try and flog it on a track and one would be woefully disappointed as it doesn't have a high peak power to propel it around at 140 mph.
But if you have any sense, you're not riding around at 140 mph on public streets so 150 hp is just a meaningless number on a spec sheet.

      Say HD makes torque of 100 ft*lbs @ 3000 rpm. Then its HP at 3000 rpm = (100*3000)/5252 = 57 hp @ 3k rpm
      Now, say a Diavel makes 100 ft*lbs @ 7000 rpm. Then its HP at 7000 rpm = (100*7000)/5252 = 57 hp = 133 hp @ 7k rpm
So the same torque value at different rpms means the engine is putting out vastly different levels of power.
The Diavel makes a ton more power, but you have to spin it up to get it. It may or may not make 57 hp at 3k rpm. So, just tooling around and nailing the throttle may actually feel more spirited on the HD.
Now, if you're going 120 mph and hit the throttle, the Diavel is going to feel a hell of a lot spunkier. The HD probably can't even hit 120 mph, but on a street bike, who cares?

    • @saddle8bag
      @saddle8bag 3 роки тому

@@mhoeij A linear power curve will create a flat torque curve. That's how the math works.
Engine torque is a concept that is of no real use to a rider. That's why I say you can just lay power curves over each other and see if an engine makes power where you like it.
If you want to increase torque to the rear wheel, you shift down to first gear. If you want to increase the speed the rear wheel can rotate, you shift up to sixth gear.
In first gear you sacrifice speed for torque. In sixth gear you sacrifice torque for speed. The torque calculated back to the engine's crank is superfluous.
