- Iran confirmed President Ebrahim Raisi's death on Monday (May 20) after his helicopter crashed in the East Azerbaijan province. In the aftermath of his death, Scott Lucas, professor of US and international politics at the Clinton Institute and University College Dublin, tells FRANCE 24 that "the [Iranian] regime will rally around [this death] to show that it has legitimacy and that it has mass support".

As a muslim..I do not feel any sorrow over the death of this Iranians.. We must not forget that Khomeini led his so-called Islamic revolution against the secular Iranian Shah from France, and Khomeini used to say that he wanted Sharia law for Iran in Paris. We must also not forget that the French airlaines was the one who took Khomeini to Tehran alsovdont forget that it was the CIA that asked the Iranian army to abandon the secular Shah
Times were different then. Everyone believed the Shah was the bad guy and that Khomeini would save the iranians like a kind of Gandhi. Khomeini was using taqqiya all the time to reinforce that illusion.

Two conspiracy theories are making the rounds on the internet. The first blames Israel for the crash,(which is feasible since Israel has the means, motive and opportunity to do the deed).
The second asserts that the crash was an inside job because the death of Raisi leaves an open field for Mojtaba,(the son of Khamenei) to succeed his father as Supreme Leader of Iran.
To burnish his credentials,he has been given a teaching role in the Qom seminary. All he has to do now to consolidate his position is to woo the Islamic Revolutionary Guards who supported Raisi’s candidacy. The Ayatollah Khamenei is seriously sick, (he is riddled with cancer) and has a few years to live. So the game of musical chairs seems to have begun in Iran.
