Lived in Bradley Fold ,just a short bus /drive to Bolton, Went to school there, even worked a few years there. Went to the many cinemas there some great nights in the Pally . Can remember when you could drive through Bolton, past the town hall and park in the back streets. Left in 1970 go back occasionally, just to reminisce about my courting days 🤗
I was christened at that 1st church....St Georges a long time ago. I was happy to see the old buildings are still there, even though the shops have changed. Thank you for putting this video on for us to see.
Bolton was hit hard by the decline of the cotton industry and both heavy and light engineering industries. The councils of all political parties have failed miserably since. Bad management, decisions and planning of the town centre. Bad management of non European immigration. Social housing schemes have been badly managed. Bolton has many sought after residential areas and has a wealthy population aside a growing population of poorer people. Bolton is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is very well connected transport wise with the rail and motorway network. Very close to Manchester it's an ideal place to live for the commuter. Out of town shopping parks within the Borough are thriving with shoppers from all the North West visiting. The council seems to have woken up and is with others investing in the town centre building affordable housing and moving away from retail in favour of social activities. I've lived in Bolton all of my 64 years and think I've given a fair opinion. A once proud town pulling itself out of decline and hopefully investing in a better future and becoming proud once again. 😊
The situation in Bolton is the same as that of many places in the UK. You have expressed the sentiments of many local people. I hope Bolton and the UK can be great again.
