Phil Housley was the first player to ever go strait from HS to the NHL came from a MN high school team that won the tourney. Minny has had dozens of NHL champs and gold medal winners. and Minnesota still produces the most D1 college players out of any state in the nation
@hockeyCK27 the only reason no one in minnesota plays AAA is because everyone is already at that level so its unneccesary to play for another team besides your school. AAA exists in other areas because you get hs teams with a few really good kids and a bunch of benders so the good kids play club to elevate their game and get noticed which won't happen on a bad hs team. They're essentially the same level AAA just groups the good guys together because other guys on the hs teams aren't as good.
My son teams go to Duluth, Chicago, Wisconsin for tourneys all the time, we are from Canada, i think USA hockey is great, your refs are biasest, but still i think you guys have a great program, and Canada should be worried
i'll give it to you that mn hs is at a much higher level than mi hs, and every other hs program in the nation for that matter, but i hate when i hear people say it's at a higher level than the chl. that's just totally ignorant; players in the chl have income coming in because of hockey, teams have ex-nhl players as coaches, and the draft is consistently filled with players from this league. that doesn't mean i don't think mn hs is great though. i love what you guys do in minny

As a whole, Junior B, with a few exceptional D1 bound players on each team.
it looks nuts in minnesota..wish i played there..
@crush40fan101 -I think they were there in both 2007 & 2009.
Last years was MUCH better. This still gives me goosebumps though.
what is the caliber like compared to ontario hockey? and what percentage of players in this tournament get recruited to D1 schools?
@AlExOviE08 Moorhead I believe

The State Hockey Tournament is always a fun time of year but it would be even better if the North St. Paul Polars got there.
Hill Murray is so dirty.

It's hilarious how Moorhead has been to the state tourney 13 times and they just can't get the job done
I am from Moorhead. It's a curse but we still love watching our team every winter.
