김장 배추와 무를 심고 시간이 지나면 김장 재료 또는 갓 김치로 사용할 갓을 심을 시기다.
이런 갓은 여러 가지 종류가 있지만 김장할 때 양념으로 사용하는 갓은 청갓과 적갓을 혼합한 얼청갓을 많이 사용한다.
지역과 김장하는 시기에 따라 갓을 심는 시기는 다르지만 대체적으로 김장 배추를 심고 15일 전후해서 씨앗을 파종하면 11월 중순 김장하는 시기에 적합하다.
씨앗을 심는 방법도 줄 뿌림과 흩어 뿌림이 있는데 재배 농가의 환경에 맞게 하면 된다.
갓은 씨앗을 심고 부터 수확할 때 까지 수분이 많이 필요한 작물이다.
수분이 부족하면 갓이 질겨 식감이 나쁘다. 그러므로 갓은 수학할 때 까지 수분 조절에 많은 관심을 주어야 한다.
갓은 어떤 방법으로 심던 싹이 돋아 난 다음 1~2차 솎아 주기을하여 작물과 간격이 약 10Cm 정도되게 유지하여 주면 우수한 품질의 갓을 수확할 수 있다.
