Really helpful and interesting. Just two things, if I may : sure, you can't put the right pouch on the stock, but if really needed, you can put it on the sling, though it will likely move all the time. About protecting the stock, the way you install the sling under the pouch is a good idea, but the problem is if you do like this, you can't use anymore the sling to carry your gun on your shoulder. There's a much better way that protects the stock AND allows you to carry your gun : just put half of your sling under the pouch, and the other half over, but first make sure that the buckle is on the stock side. Still, I don't know the GI did so, but hope it helps.
The knowledge of the circular dings on the stock is interesting. It co-incides with a ding on the upper wood , left side, an inch from front end on a friend's carbine.
Really helpful, thanks. I use a brown felt with sticky on one side, the kind you put on the bottom of your chair legs to keep them from scratching your wood flloors. You can trim them to fit and they compress well, so you don't damage the stock or have to remove the snap.
If it's a reproduction pouch; there is no need to make a big hole by cutting out the snap, you can just drill it out. You are left with just a small hole. It's what I did with the repro pouch I put on a CMP carbine. (Use a pair of visegrips to hold the inside snap and use a large-ish drill bit, to remove the small amount of metal keeping the snap together, from the outside.)
My stock was no beauty queen and had a large area ground down by a angle grinder!? So I drilled a counter sunk hole, put the snap in there and now the mag pouch nicely covers the buggered part of the stock and stays put!
I don't know if anyone mentioned this before, but if you want to get the pouch to fit better and to put the mags in, turn the mags around. If you noticed the way there in one side is rounded and the other is squared. It will make the pouch a bit lose to get them in. I don't know if anyone mentioned it but I thought I would.
Thank you so much for this video. I was looking for a similar setup for my Ruger PC Carbine. I was trying to figure out how to attach two magazines for my firearm. Thanks much again.
Yes they did. Since they had no firearm experience they were not know in the being as a good manufacturer. Springfield Armory had to send technicians out their to teach them how to straighten out their barrels because they were so crooked.
@@norwich93CMP wow how cool. the barrel i have comes from underwood, and the receiver says STD. PRO. with serial numbers. This is a mystery to me, did they really ship this rifle out 5 times.?
Your video is really helpful, Thanks!! I would like to know if you could tell me how to install the pouch on the M1a1 para ? I could not figure it out.
GI pouch seem to be the largest as compared to reproductions. I really never seen one go all the way to the sling cut on the right. Many do approach or go over on the left side though. I would not force it, gradual pushing dowm with magazines in then with, lastly in snapped.
They wernt show ponies in battle alot of seabees were issues with them and they had to be slung they were engineers repairing bridges and rail and roads they needed 2 free hands and be armed
That will protect the wood from the snap but it renders the sling largely useless. Two layers of duct tape on the inside of the pouch and voilà... wood stays good
my m2 carbine 30 round magazine is getting stuck..suddenly this year..both magazines.. any solution for this? i know the right direction of the spring...but i dont know why its getting stuck. like while putting ammo inside it it can stop anywhere from 15 to 25 round..and i will have to hit it on my hand to fix it. and its not feeding well.. the ejector is a little more than 90 degree angle. and i am afraid to bend it since it seems there is a crack (from factory) there and it could increase that crack

Thanks man. You made up my mind. Don't want to cover the cartouche.
Glad the info helped you.
I’ve had a hard time finding original mag pouches and magazines. Checked out ebay but an weary of reproductions. Any tips or recommendations?
Antique stores. The last two I’ve been in had carbine Magazine pouches
Gun shows or the CMP forum.

I never recommend any tape due to the adhesives, but a cloth pad of some sorts might do fine.
Im thinking of sewing a small patch of leather to the inside of the pouch where the snap contacts the stock.
I'm sure some rtv or silicone would prevent any dents
But you still have the snap against your cheek. Not good remove the snap
