I think it's not like Villeneuve could get in. It's more like "he should get in". A top 3 Best Director work this year, in my books (with Baker and Corbet).
I can’t believe that Chris and Joyce are still not taking the masterpiece that’s Dune:Part Two as a serious Oscar nominations contender. The movie is uber beloved and is still stratospherically popular even after these many months. I’ve no doubt that Dune:Part Two will land the top nominations including Picture and Best Director.
Dune: Part Two is one of my favorite movies of the year. I think the negatives for the movie are: 1) it's six months old and there is a tendency to recency bias during awards season 2) it's a sequel 3) there is more competition this year than when the original Dune was out there in 2021 with an October release date. That said, I think it's strongly in play for Picture and I recently put Denis back in for director (he is campaigning and he has the biggest movie right now -- although Ridley could claim that in a couple of months). BTL, I'd peg it for production design, cinematography, costumes, score, vfx, makeup/hair, and sound. I think it should make it back in for editing, it just depends on how that category and the Best Picture race lines up (Anora, The Brutalist, Conclave, Emilia Perez, Dune or a wild card?). I doubt it gets in for adapted screenplay, although it's possible. So that would still be 10 nominations.
I think people are underestimating Demi moore. She is Campaigning very hard with her famous dog. She is attending party of her industries freinds. Though, the film is a horror but the message will be much received by women over 50. She knows the game and I have a feeling that she will play that game. I have also a feeling she will get every precursors before hitting oscar nomination. She has both Industry connection and industry respect, She will definitely get appreciation for her difficult role.
Unless I've missed something I think 1999 was the last time five first-time Best Director nominees constituted the line-up. Disgustingly as The Insider should have been Michael Mann's third or maybe fourth directing nomination 🙂
Gotta correct myself. Lasse Hallstrom had been nominated before. So you have to go back to 1997 and Cameron, Hanson, Cattaneo, Van Sant and Egoyan. In other words, it's rare!
Chris, I think Andre was referring to David R. as smug and obnoxious. Isn't he the one who was rudely chastising Mike about his games and called him the lame master?
Demi Moore was phenomenal in this movie and I think the girl is too dismissive for someone who hasn't seen the movie yet. The only blunder is the genre of the movie
The last two years the front runners have been winning. I don’t think the having a movie in 3rd place means anything anymore. I think Anora might be the winner.
Excuse me? For cinematography "others deserve it more the Dune"?? What are you talking about? If AGAIN the "Academy" snob Denis that would be a disgrace.
@@seaconfused I don't actually believe you but I've since watched the whole video and Chris didn't even say that other movies "deserve it" more than Dune, just that they could be more win competitive so your initial post was just bogus to begin with
I can't believe I agree with Game Master Mike, but Joyce and Chris are best award analysts. You do remove film twitter noise and have a true understanding of how this all works. Other people think they know things but they really don't. My only critique is that I wish awards pendants would read the books or IP for the adapted movies so they would have a better understanding of the films. Also, I was the commentator a couple months back that question Chris' praise for the Bear season 3 and asking if he liked it just because he wanted to like more than he actually does. FYI your (Chris) response was not offensive or rude although I did have to re-read it in your tone of voice to get your point.

Noooo my email didn't make it into the inaugural episode 😭

have you even seen the other movies contending for best cinematography this year
Exactly. One just Stuck on Dune@@Price_of_Fame
@@Price_of_Fame Yeah, most of them. I would not trade Dune's nomination for any of them.

Thanks! I appreciate it. I try not to be too rude, even though I know sometimes tone is hard to read online.
