    Just to say that is one balistic rc! Yep electric in Rc kicks the pants of gas/nitro power! They got less power/speed when played at this level! Please, make more HD videos and share them! Put the 5ive with the body on, and go to the track, sands, earth soil and make massive videos! You are a winner! Congratulations... seeing your videos are a very good way to see the exciment without having in my hands such a rc! thank you!

  • @JPapaPhotography
    @JPapaPhotography  12 років тому

    Absolutely. Now we run tape around the inside to prevent ballooning. MCD rims and tires for the Racerunner v4 don't ballon much at all even without tape.

    Track temps are very manageable because you don't have to drive like we are in the demo here. Motor temps are usually around 130F and up to 160F without fans. With fans, its very well controlled. Also, on the track we prefer 10s because its more controllable and we can run a higher capacity pack and get more run time.

    That thing is awesome! I was just thinking about how someone would take a 1:5 scale unit, & make it so it could be powered by electric instead of using gas. You have the answer. Excellent job. I would love to hear more on how this was done, Thanks, Rob Webb

  • @JPapaPhotography
    @JPapaPhotography  12 років тому

    Im not sure if you mean battery runtime or the truck itself, so I will answer both. The truck has yet to break a single part and we have upgraded the motor to one that can handle even more voltage. The battery lasts between 10 minutes and 30 minutes depending on the way you drive it, the terrain, gearing, battery capacity and ESC settings. As you see it in the video, I get about 20 minutes. On the track it runs over 25.

    RC Madness offers the controller ready to run with connectors already on it if you cant solder. Otherwise, you will need to solder connectors onto the battery side and bullets on the motor side. You will need a very good iron as the bullets and wire are 6 gauge!

  • @JPapaPhotography
    @JPapaPhotography  12 років тому

    Still going strong. We also have tried a Lehner motor (3080 LMT 6 turn) The Lehner has a 50,000 rpm limit, internal fan and runs super cool. Castle has more run time and less power. Lehner can handle 15s!

  • @JPapaPhotography
    @JPapaPhotography  12 років тому

    Yeah, great question. The motor runs much cooler for one reason. Also, we find the truck to be significantly easier to drive and control when the majority of braking is in the rear. Mechanical brakes allow bias.

    Neutronics, the brains and design behind the castle 2028 states the motor is capable of 40,000 rpm. We hit about 25-32K on average under load. The heat is the major enemy and with the castle blower fans, its very well managed.

    Actually it is closer to 14. Take the wattage from the data logger and divide by 745. 1hp = 745 watts. 10,300 / 745 is 13.82 hp.

    Ahh, sounds about right. With 130 you've got lots of headroom to work with. That thing must leave the 2 stroke models in the dust. What kind of run times does it usually get? I would imagine you could get some pretty beefy batteries in there.

    I usually run the truck twice before I have to charge it. Its hard to run it through an entire battery when its this ballistic. You need a break. Gearing also make a big difference, and I am confident I could gear it to run 25 minutes. The way you see it here, probably 15 minutes. Just like any other brushless setup. The castle motor is very efficient. Doesn't matter really. With a second battery, you can run all day. Only takes 1/2 hour to charge.

    Total weight of truck with body is 38 pounds. Its pretty much the same weight as a stock gas truck. However, adding a pipe will add 2 pounds to the gas one.
    The motor hits about 25- 32000 rpm.

    Lehner 3080 LMT 6. Email Martin at MGM-Compro and tell him Joe sent you. Handles up to 50,000 rpm and 15s lipo. This is the motor I am running since the video. The Castle motor makes less power and more run time.
    Another option is the Lehner 3060 LMT 8 turn. Same RPM limit as 3080, but lower wattage and longer run time. If you do not plan on running 12S, then you may consider a different wind, but a mild wind on higher voltage is more efficient than a wild wind on lower voltage.
