@@4xoverland good man. My 1HDFTE has done 640,000kms in the 17 years I have owned it. Fuel pump, and injectors (last week) changed. Oil and filter changes every 5000kms (I’m ocd on servicing). If you can, try and get a non emissions, not EGR model. Keep them standard and don’t mess around with any nonsense ecu chips or oversized injectors. Those engines produce a solid 150kw and will move your vehicle nicely, all without having to drive with your foot out the radiator 😉. Cheers, Sean.

However it doesn't have the electronics of the FTE (trying to keep it simple with a mechanical pump, does that make it a FT? 😂) a bit of an economy/power band sacrifice suppose). However even though we heavy it cruises past trucks and loves the sand. Great seeing you having a vehicle in Africa.
Hi Andrew. Thank you for your interesting content. Its always beautiful to watch your videos. Have you ever considered switching to the 1hd-fte? I personally think it is a great and reliable engine too.
While a quite like Troopies, I’ve never owned one. This is a nice build with many great features. My previous 4WD was a 2002 n/a diesel Hilux and it was gutless! It could smell a hill long before I could see it, so I can relate to what you said. Thankfully I’ve since upgraded to a 2012 2.8l turbo diesel Colorado and they are as different as chalk and cheese. Having done the tough tracks and gained the brownie points in my past 4wds, I’ve set my Colorado up as a capable tourer. I’m sure that it will get me everywhere I want to go but unless there is reward at the destination, I choose not to do the tough tracks just for points! I carry everything I need including the rooftop tent and it still averages 10.2 l/100km! I run and love the Wildpeak AT3w tyres and have had no issues to date.
It’s the same feeling we are having owning our 4WD in Australia. It’s ours like you said. Just fly over and hop in going bush 🎉 greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Hallo Andrew. Thanks a lot for all your exciting content on your builds and expeditions. Really is inspiring. I'm disabled and busy building my own overland vehicle here in SA and would like to know more about the step at the back of your troopy. Thanks 🙏
let me drop a thought here, cause coffee still hot and weekend mood already stikes. i generally like the idea of a refurbished vehicle. one has to upgrade, customise or replace parts anyways, why not starting off with a cheaper base, and make things solid from there on. the same work goes in a newer vehicle as well sooner or later. this way one can make sure to have fresh parts. and i think there is a psychological aspect when it comes to what one wants to do with it. both on driving and modifications.
When I saw the Ineos Grenadier with those side load rails, I immediately thought they're a brilliant idea, and would be perfect for the Troopy. I can think of so many use for it. I won't be surprised one bit if this is copied/offered as an accessory by various accessory vendors moving forward.

fuel pump tweak and then some timing advancement. difference between two 1hz's, one with too little fuel and retarded pump and one done right is worlds apart
I don't want to offend anybody, but need to be honest. I am a bit surprised that a vehicle that was built under the supervision of Paul Marsh has this many flaws. A regular Joe would have to pay top dollar to get Pauls expertise and experience and have him built a 4x4 vehicle ready for exploration and overlanding. I would be quite annoyed to get a vehicle with, as some would describe, major flaws. Low Range not working, the solar panel problems, the engine being gutless even though the whole car was turned inside out. I was expecting a top vehicle, and am very surprised how it turned out to be. Yes, a test trip would have brought some of these problems to the surface, but considering the supervision of such an expert, I would not have expected there to be this problems in the first place.
Then allow me be clear. The gearbox problem was the only one Paul should arguably have picked up. Builds as complex as this are never without niggles. Ever! That's why a test trip is not optional. But it was not possible in my case. The solar panel I supplied. The gutless engine was a known factor. We just didn't know how gutless with this load and at these temperatures. Again, a test trip might have revealed this, but would not have stopped the trip from happening. The engine has 500K on it and was not rebuilt - but made reliable. And it was. I was not pissed at the outcome. Paul is human and damn good at what he does. But being honest on UA-cam is costly because people tend to lean on the few negatives and overlook the many positives.
