Dr. Can, I can't stress enough how amazing your channel is. As a beginner I've learnt a couple of openings (probably too much, but it's fun) and their useful variants. It actually helps because opponents at my level don't do openings. This isn't probably for me, but I usually have a look at videos like that for future reference.
Thanks to this this wonderful channel and the mastermind behind it, there will be many players, who know what to do against Maroczy bind and why it is so. This fills my heart with joyful anticipation of interesting games, because I plan to play the Botvinnik system both as black and as white. 😁
Good video on some plans against the Maroczy structure! I like the most obvious point the best: trading pieces when we have less space. Just chopping the knight and Bc6 is thematic. This was useful for me to see and know because i have struggled finding a plan against the maroczy in the past and often ended up resorting to chopping the knight on d5 with my bishop and getting a really tough game where white has that pressure against the backward e pawn. Also cementing the knight with e5 changing the structure was really nice. Thank you for this video
Thank you! Absolutely, the trade on d4 makes much sense, especially since the bishop trade on g7 is not sth Black is afraid of. ...Bxd5 exd5 structures generally favor White due to the weakness on e7.
Your videos are so illuminating! I find myself grasping at least the key concepts and applying them in my games in a way that I hadn't before. Definitely becoming more conscious of awakening my pieces, creating space, restricting opponents activity and trade evaluation. The other day i was down in a game due to being overly passive, got my rooks activated, came back and won. Thank you for your wonderful contribution to chess cognitive learning.
In learning many things the ability to link concepts and abstract patterns is really important. By emphasising frequently occurring chunks you are educating us in how to better understand the game. Homework. If we take 1 ...Bxd5 2 exd creates a protected passed pawn on d and the white Queen is supporting it from behind.1.. Q d6 seems better but it is a nice knight. Thanks for the lesson!
Hi Dr Can! I wanted to thank you for this video and share a game I played using these ideas, it really helped me to turn the tide where I wouldn't have necessarily done so before. I don't think I played it perfectly, and I realise I've still got plenty to learn - I'm still curious how a game like this can turn out when white plays Nc2. Anyway, thanks again for these wonderful instructional chess videos that you continue to make. A great video sir ❤❤ Solution for the Homework: 1. ... Bxd5 is a safe move as there is no weakness now on e7. Also the Bishop on c6 is somewhat bad, so it is good to trade that good Knight on d5 & there are no immediate threats on our Kingside neither on our Queenside. Sir I request you to continue these type of great videos. Thank You..
Great video. I don't play these structures, but it is still useful to see how to approach opening study through common patterns and model games. In the homework position, black could try to achieve a strong knight vs bad bishop position by taking on d5, but if they take back with the e-pawn, then the Nc5-e6-d4 maneuver is not possible, because the d5-pawn covers the e6 square. Also the capture with the e-pawn opens the light-squared bishop's scope, so the f4-f5-plan looks scarier. But I am not sure.
Answering to myself. I just realized that if white takes with the e-pawn, then black can play f5, and there is probably nothing for white. And if they take with the queen, then the Nc5-e6-d4 works. So the best for black is probably cxd5. But given the limited scope of the c2-bishop, I would prefer black. The knight is still a strong piece on c5.
This is crazy!! I play the Accelerated Dragon myself (with Ng4 and exd4 position if allowed) and usually felt uncomfortable due to the Maróczy bind and limited space. These 6 patterns are directly applicable to my game.
Thank you Dr. Can for a great video! Re Homework: I would go ahead with Bxd5 because that bishop on c6 sucked and their knight becomes an octopus on d5, can't leave it there. The result is I have a good knight vs their bad bishop. So in this case, chopping that knight on d5 makes perfect sense to me.
Such an instructive lesson, loved it 👍 Homework, you alway put a teasing puzzle for the homework and this one I feel is no different, my instinct is to exchange the bishop for the knight, that night looks dangerous and our pieces are nicely mobilised so ...Bxd5, exd5 f5 blunting whites bishop and advancing our kingside, ...Bxd5, cxd5 Rac8 taking control of the c file looks possible to me
Excellent video on a rarely discussed topic.. namely, how to break or neutralize the Maroczy Bind. Wonder if you could cover how black can do so in Kalashnikov and O'Kelly Sicilians. Thanks!
Dear Sir...very instructive...cld u come up with another video on maroczy from masters play explaining these concepts one more time...also can we have this from king's indian defence structure? thank you
Hey doc I just saw your when your attacking instinct is bad but your strategy is genius video which helped me alot but somethings my attack instinct is great but I'm unable to calculate or formulate a follow up could you please make a video about that I'm sure I'm not the only person with the problem😅
Don't play the dragon as i seen some top level players destroy the dragon... However, do like the Hedghog telling white come get me i don't think you can... If white errors black can pounce... Think black must be very accurate and the positions appear to call for some deep caculations... Maybe you can comment on the Bind vs the Hedghog... Thanks
Homework: Bxd5 looks good but ideally Ne6 and Nd4 outpost which will be prevented. But the knight is a very good piece in the center of the board and the Queen doesn’t have a lot of good squares to retreat to. On another note, doesn't g4 look dangerous for us with black? How do we even defend against g4 with Qh6+ infiltration ideas coming?
...Bxd5! is good indeed! We don't have a weakness on e7 so exd5 is nothing. I believe g4 will be answered by ...h4, but probably we have other resources too.
Im an accelerated dragon player... and I only knew the first idea... no wonder I suck against the Marcozy! I didnt know the final 6 patterns! Ive studied this opening. But why oh why did nobody ever tell me these ideas?! I could care less about move orders now. Because I actually know how to play this. So much more usedul then so many books and courses on this.
Thank you so much for your kind feedback! Recurrent and important opening patterns and chunks are soo important to learn! Hope you will use them successfully.
@@Dr.CansClinic Ok understood thanks. In a position how to understand who is better and why without the use of engine? As engine will tell who is better but won't tell why. And if I am studying an opening with database and I come across a move whose plan is unclear then at that point should I search the model games in that position ASAP?

Good Video. Sir when using database and studying and learning opening How to mark the end of the theory and transition into own thinking. Please reply
Thank you. In my opinion, the transition to your own thinking starts on move 1. You should be curious and ask why those theoretical moves are played.
