Night Tree: Ships LIVE at Rockwood Music Hall

Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, Night Tree’s debut album scraps the notion of genre to innovate traditional music with producer Séamus Egan, founding member of SOLAS. As this acoustic sextet unites a fresh collection of focused musicians, each artists’ personality satisfies a musical need with their fiery improvisational climaxes, stoic features, and worldly love accounts. These conservatory-trained musicians have absorbed genres from across the globe with their millennial curiosity that results in mixture of Irish, Classical, Jazz, Klezmer, Indian, and Afro-Cuban music. Their music culminates into a cinematic and even deeply spiritual experience.
Night Tree began in August 2016 after six new-and-old friends began playing sessions together as they shared everything from traditional Celtic tunes to free improvisations. The band thrives on playing in the dark as to allow themselves the opportunity to focus and listen closely to one another as they get inside each other’s sound burrowing into the collection of strings, reeds, and percussion that is Night Tree. Being students and recent graduates of The New England Conservatory in Boston, NEC selected them as their 2016-17 Wildcard Ensemble which gave them sponsorship from this world-class conservatory, a headlining performance at the historic Jordan Hall, and a year of coachings with Winifred Horan, fiddler of SOLAS. Though the band is just one year old, Brian O’Donovan, a Senior DJ at Boston’s prestigious WGBH, calls Night Tree “One of the most exciting roots-based music groups to emerge from the New England Conservatory in many years. Their individual chops and adventurous approach make Night Tree a band to watch for.”
