    Looks like a really interesting game - love that it uses the "T" on the flight cards for each of your pilots. That's just like in history at the Ops buildings when prepping for missions!

      I did not know that! Very cool indeed

    • @HistoricWings
      @HistoricWings Місяць тому +2

      Yes, that is true. The "T Icons" on the flight cards were taken directly from the last surviving Second World War era flight board, once located at the ops building at Little Waldon (Station 165), which, after I secured it in 2000, I had it transferred to the Imperial War Museums. At the time, it adorned the back wall of a commercial garage and was steadily deteriorating -- it was stained with car and truck oil, partly covered with pin-up calendars, and generally abused as just any ordinary garage wall would be.
      For reference, the flight board at Little Waldon initially served the 409th Bombardment Group (A-20 Havocs) starting in March 1944, and, subsequently, the 361st Fighter Group (P-51 Mustangs), from September 1944 until the end of the war (though it deployed to Chievres, Belgium between February and April 1945 to support the crossing of the Rhine, when it returned to Little Waldon). For clarity, the 361st FG moved in after the 409th moved across the Channel to ALG Bretigny, France (A-48).
      Perhaps I will include a photo of the flight board as it was found, in situ, in the upcoming wargame book. Even if it did not directly pertain to the 371st Fighter Group, it was the common form in use through much of the Second World War.

      I'm hoping to have the game finalized around the end of the month. On the F-100 game in Vietnam, I'm actually doing work on it this evening! That game will take many more months, I expect -- I wish I could get it done faster!

      @@HistoricWings Thank you for the update on the F-100 game. It is one of my favorite aircraft from that era of aviation. The other aircraft that would probably make a good game is the F-105 "Thud". Will the F-100 game focus on the use of the F-100 in North Vietnam or in its CAS role in South Vietnam? No need to rush on the game. These things take time! Thank you for making these games! Skål!

      @@cavtroop50 -- Thanks for asking! The operations that will depicted in the game are those flown by the 306th Tactical Fighter Squadron (TFS). In 1968, they flew from Tuy Hòa AB, South Vietnam, typically conducting ground attack missions against North Vietnamese forces and Viet Cong units. One of their key missions was flown in support of the evacuation of Kham Duc Special Forces Camp, which was at risk of being overrun by the North Vietnamese -- the USAF flew 120 sorties, managing to hold off the vastly superior numbers of North Vietnamese soldiers along the runway perimeter until the camp could be evacuated after a pitched battle that lasted for many hours. The former squadron commander of the F-100D unit that flew from Tuy Hòa AB, Col. John S. Rivers, USAF (Ret), is assisting with research and information to support for this wargame book.

    • @WW2SolitaireBoardGameChannel

      @@charleslatora5750 I am the same depending on my mood. Sometimes I want something super deep, with lots of details, sometimes I just want action. The good thing with this game is that almost all writing is optional, so you can skip it if you feel that it does not add to your experience. There is a roster of the historical pilots in the 3 squadrons of thr 371st fighter group so you don't need to write anything at all.
