For Siya to stand up & show his support for the women’s game is a massive game changer for women’s sport. Siya is showing the way for women’s rugby to grow. all the federations should be looking at this interview and using it as a template to grow the women’s game and rugby as a whole.
Inspiring human kolisi. His genuine passion to get behind the woman rugby is exactly what is needed. Ive watched the world 1 and 2 series and love watching it . The world needs more people who have a mindset off helping others and being your best .
Cool guy and great player - puts his heart and soul into it, which, for me, is one of the things that draws me to the women's game - he is the natural and probably the strongest individual advocate for the whole game, his support is a great fit.
I stumbled onto this show a couple weeks ago and I had so much fun watching it and peaked my interest to watch the women's rugby. All I can say is wow , I was so surprised at how good it is. We need to get behind the ladies just like we do our boks men. Let's make them our new story, they are certainly going places with Swys
Always enjoyed this podcast, and this was a special one. I hope other big names in mens rugby take notice and get involved in promoting the womens game.
Respect your passion Elma! Many people outside of SA don't realize that rugby to us, is more than just a game. Siya is an absolute living legend, but feel he still has many chapters to write going forward ❤
Fantastic episode, brilliant hosts and inspirational guest in Siya Kolisi. What an inspirational human and don't worry Elma you were far from being the only one in tears- I retired from rugby decades ago, support Ireland and was quite ready to lace up my boots and find a brick wall to run through for that man!
Elma, you are so brilliant at what you do ! I am so proud of what you have accomplished since you started on SuperSport! South African essence at its finest! And the beauty of both internal and external Saffaness on show! I love and appreciate it! Lekker and a privilege to watch! You are just as important to the lekkerness of SA as Siya is, you are what shares more than the story, but the feeling of Ubuntu as Siya said.
Yes to all the Meg! Very like Mo but less beautiful "sorry, Parma ham?" moments (I love Mo forever). I knew I would cry at a Siya + Elma combination and yes I definitely was tearing up from like the intro. Love what Siya had to say just about being a good person and helping good things grow. Loved seeing how excited the Wallaroos etc were about meeting, seriously, probably the top recognised men's player in the game right now - and Siya posting how excited he was that they were excited. And for the show, what a great guest inspiring belief, changing the world, leading and working hard. I know Ben Youngs talked about not wanting to be seen as "teaching" the scrumhalves, but taking the opportunity not just to share coaching that has helped him but also player experience - i.e. being able to listen to a question and maybe try to answer. More than just photo opportunities! Flipping great episode as always.
OMG - I have been listening to GSR for years now but this one had so many moments and had me in tears hearing the passion from you all. Siya - so inspirational (you all are). Meg fits into GSR so well. Thank you all xxx
I hope other male teams take note and show support for their national women's teams too! I know the English Premiership has kicked off now so most of the international players there won't be able to travel to Canada, South Africa or the UAE, but talking about their games in podcasts is a start! There's also a big following for them on various social media platforms they can make use of. It would be great to see! Amazing to hear from Siya! Quite an incredible human by all accounts.
It’s pretty hard when countries dont value womens rugby let alone womens sports as much as they to the mens. I hope after hearing this people who don’t value womens rugby will start watching and supporting womens rugby
At university back in the 80s I suffered a bad neck injury which put me out of playing for a long time. I was approached to coach the Women's teamwhich I did for a year As a player with mo coaching skills I tried my best but it emphasised how little the women's game was regarded at the time. Back to the present day, I really enjoy watching the women's game. It is skillful and entertaining. I don't understand the scorn and snobbery that some 'fans' regard the women's game . If they watched it I'm sure they would enjoy it
@@patrickchilds2987 they think it’s not worthy to watch or say it’s boring when clearly it’s not. When I mention the black ferns historic 6 x World Cup, there’s always that one person who says “oh, it doesn’t count” or it’s not the same” well I say “rugby is rugby whether you like it or not.”
@Waks23 yes I understand what your saying. I really like the Black Ferns . I recently saw them meeting and hugging King Charles. They were so charming and sang beautifully to him. I think he really enjoyed meeting them . Some of these fans need to get over themselves . These elite women players know more and play better rugby than most of these keyboard warriors
I am a Saffa living in New Zealand and one thing that is amazing here is that many schools have girls teams, playing each and every weekend, like the boys. In Wellington, where I live, the majority of clubs have women's teams, playing a full season, the same as the men. There are also a number of provincial teams that play in their own competition as well. Perhaps this setup explains why New Zealand has such an excellent national women's team. These players are stars in their own right, such as Portia Woodman, to name one.
Started watching your show realizing how much I miss playing rugby when I was in primary school. I played with the boys. Wow I am loving it. I will spread the word to support our bok ladies. After the Barbarian won I felt so proud to be a woman. These ladies give it all. Coach Sweis the way he is involve his passion absolutely love it
@Elmakapelma yeah just a pitty ladies were only allowed to play after I left school. In martix I tried to do our 40 days standard 9 girls vs Martix but they bailed because of my reputation as not only a bully in Netball and my fears competitive. So I became a netball coach just closed my academy due to health reasons however Rugby will and always be my 1st love. Have been since I was 7 and been a shark supporter since I was living in the freestate, watching Jubba, James Small, Henry Honeyball, Kabous, Joost and all my rugby heroes.
Whether you are South African or not (I am). Siya Kolisi must rate as one of if not the most inspirational human beings, aside from his talent, inside the sporting world.
Agree with Siya, but please explain to me why can't I find any games on Supersport? What is the SARU doing to promote the games? Come on get involved with them!
Honestly, siya’s support of womens rugby opened my eyes to the internalised misogyny i have. I’m a south african woman who loves rugby and im ashamed to say i always said i dont want to watch womens rugby bc it isnt as good or as entertaining as mens rugby. Luckily now i realise how wrong i was.
Oh yes! I have heard this from so many brilliant women. The patriarchy got us good! But, producer Shira and I always remind each other we do this work for the ”little me” - the young girl who needed to be shown that women with many different body types all matter, could all play an important role in a team. That women can be strong and fierce, that they can compete and be celebrated. 🫶
I believe it’s time GSR became a channel in its own right. The ‘women’ (out of my linguistic comfort zone with that, but just for you, Elma), in any and every combination so far, provide such a different podcast to that of Alex, Mike and James that I find it increasingly difficult to see them as part of the same team
Keep an eye out for Jane Muller, daughter of world cup winner Japie Muller. She will soon wear the green and gold. Absolute natural talent every sport she touch and play.
How much was he paid to say this. I went with my kids to watch Boks vs Spain, we left at halftime. With all due respect, and nothing against women's rugby, i have more fun watching high school boys rugby.
Like this comment if this is your first GSR episode!
Siya is a giant. Imagine a world where we all give back 💪🏼
Amazing episode. Siya's interview made me tear up, greatest captain of any sports team ever and a model ally.

A great pod, so much content and emotion. The reason why we should not use the "L" word to describe women was profound.
Thank you Clive🙏🏼

Elma cheering on Scotland (but not too much) like that scene at the end of The Incredibles 😂
Yes please bring back Meg Jones so she can present her next gift of a weasel prawn No9 to Mo
