I had a conversation with a Hombu shihan a few years back. To summarise his thoughts - Endo does good solid aikido, the plethora of people who think they are Endo make the art a joke and sadly some are quite senior.

But I say it again: as someone that has been practicing martial arts for more than 20 years, including aikido, I can tell that in a real street fight none of those techniques would work. I love Aikido; it's a beautiful martial art... but a really bad self defense martial art.

Every day and every time I am protecting my self, it is a present moment. You know, they have bombs and missiles to destroy " the streets". When I go to the supermarket and I check the date of expiration of the yogourt, I am defending my self. Don't be childish like a MMA fan.

There is no fight against AIKIDO.
Aikido is all harmony and is impossible to go against Aikido.
