👍☑️You would be suprised how many of us bluewater sailers that have gone up masts for years are just seconds away from a panic attack every time. You did great!

Great job Syd! Doing something like mounting heights on a rocking boat is extra scary if you are already afraid of high places!! Way to “Girl up” 😀

Good job Syd! As someone who is deathly afraid of heights, I can appreciate your anxiety and fear. My job requires me to go up in scissor lifts and I hate it, but with practice and repetition i can now go to heights that were paralyzing just a couple months ago. Keep at it and just go a couple feet higher each time and before you know it you'll be at the top. Thanks for the video. I love your guys' channel.

Yay Syd, you did great! I use to have a huge fear of heights, so I totally get it. My fears aren't as bad anymore, but I honestly think I would freak out and 💩 too if I had to do that! 😅

First and foremost: Syd, great job. It's not easy to do something that scares you. You did it, and went farther than you probably expected you would. Bravo. Keep doing it, you WILL make it to the top some day soon. And when you do, enjoy the view. It's spectacular.
    2) Ty. Sometimes we gotta listen to our wives. No matter how hard it is to admit, they're often right about stuff. And in the case of the Spinlock, Kim was absolutely correct.
    3) Everyone: please don't use a bowline when climbing the mast. It is not a life safety knot. It CAN come undone, particularly if you don't put a safety knot on it as you failed to do. A figure eight follow through, with a safety knot, is the (much) preferred knot for going up the mast or any other activities where you are entrusting your safety to the line you are tied to.
Before people get on me about having been up the mast a million times on a bowline and never having a problem, good for you. You got away with it. I did it too, on everything from a J24 to the 12 Meter Courageous and a whole bunch of boats in between. But then I had a close call and I learned the proper, safer way to do it. And that's been reinforced since I started in the fire service 20 years ago.
I know, bowlines are quick and easy, but they really should fade into history. Their usefulness on modern boats, with modern, synthetic cored lines is zero. Bowlines make hard bends in your lines that can weaken them by as much as 40 percent.
Rock and mountain climbers place all their trust in their lines. You will never find them using a bowline to tie into their rope. Why would you?

Brian, thank you so much for watching and commenting it means so much to us! You are correct on all points my friend, Syd is brave, wives are usually right and we now use a safety knot for our mast work. Keep watching and commenting!

Really enjoy the video what happened to the GoPro on her head keep practicing with the camera the hardest job it takes a long time to get good

Remembering to grab the camera is our biggest downfall...with a close second being actually pointing the camera (with a steady hand) at what you're filming. Thanks for sticking with us!!! ;)

Conquering her fear of heights....amazing feat. The MOST important safety feature dad, is for your end of the line to fully locked off at all times. It's like belaying on a climbing wall...in fact, the best way to learn is to go spend a day at an indoor climbing centre and get the instructors there to take you through the safety equipment, checks and procedures. Once you are all familiar with the drill then you'll be more comfortable for the day (and it will come) when you need to get up that mast in heavy winds to fix or release something, and then you can't be assing about. You should be going up the mast once a week as practise makes perfect. Good luck...when it becomes second nature then you'll be sweet.

    • @SailingDauntless

Indeed, safety is the most important! Thanks for watching!

I'll second the idea of all of you spending some time in a climbing gym to get more comfortable with harnesses, safety gear, and everyone one board being capable at every position, etc. When shit goes south, you don't always think straight, knowing what to do without having to think too hard about it is a good thing. If the person that normally goes up the mast can't (broken arm, head injury, pick-a-disaster) someone else needs to be able to do it.

An Idea that could be useful for longevity Of the Bumper Balls. Would be to find Grommets the size of the Anchor Point - Hole. I have modified other items with the same premise. However not on as large of scale.

I like these guys but its becoming boring. They spend half or over half the video dedicated to her trying to go up the mast. That should of been like 3 minutes tops. Sorry but I find myself not wanting to finish the videos. Sorry I'm not trying to be rude just honest. The last couple videos have felt like this. Like you guys just need content so you do something like climb the mast for most of the video. Sorry just my opinion.

Brandon, thank you for your comment. We appreciate all of the comments (wether we like to hear them or not). We definitely don’t want to be boring and we want to know what types of content that you guys want to see. We try to spread it our between sailing, boat projects and everyday life stuff. Please let us know what you like to see or if you have a suggestion for a future update video!
